After Demri died, that was it. He lost the will to live and slowly committed suicide for the next 5 years. The stories of him shortly before he died are just heartbreaking. Weighed 110 pounds, dirty, a shell of himself. Terrible.
Every song they made with Layne was a hit. We would drive around blasting AIC and singing every song as loud as the music word for word. So fun, it was the best of times for me.
They were supposedly Grunge here but Layne was looking and singing like a Rock God. Damn. I hate what happened to him. His voice is still up there as being one of the best.
This song has helped me ride through so much negativity. Also, I think it's really badass how he says hey at the start of every line. Holds my attention.
I hate that we missed out on hearing new music from Layne and I hate that Layne missed out on life. I never met the man but his music and lyrics has helped me through many tough times in my life and will most likely help me through many more in the future. It's amazing how much time has gone by since the early 90's. Enjoy life to the fullest and live it how you want to live it. It's your path and you will have many choices and each choice will change everything.
I believe his lyrics are a mirror of his life, & he's trying to warn others about what harden drugs like heroin addiction does to your life, & he doesn't want anyone else to endure all that misery, So glad his music has helped you, His intentions were fulfilled, 👌
I think Layne is very beautiful in this video, and during Mad Season's live performance at the Moore in 1995, and during MTV Unplugged in 1996. Even though he lost a lot of weight and teeth during his final years, I think Layne still remained very beautiful inside out. Just listen to his final interview during Rockline show in 1999. Layne is such a sweet guy with a great sense of humor and very intelligent too. I can't talk about beautiful Layne in the past because he continues to live through the amazing music which he made
Totally agree. He had the sweetest laugh up until the end and was so kind and funny. I get tired of everyone still harping on his addiction, what he looked like, etc. It feels disrespectful to me.
everyone so obsessed w/ playing keen detective on when Layne was in what kind of condition.. another 'teeth loss' comment ffs he's gone, let it go, let him RIP...
We can look at it as a glass half full, or half empty. Layne gave all he could give and more. Look at all of the greats who checked out at 27 . . . Layne was a trooper and gave us much more. You are right that no one will ever be able to imitate him. He is is one of a kind, an original.
I saw Layne in a three piece suit at the start of their set on Lollapolooza in 93 and it was like 95 degrees that day! Needless to say he took the jacket tie vest and shirt off after playing Would the first song to start the show! Very charismatic singer and great stage presence! His voice very unique and an unbelievable range! RIP Layne!
+Joshua I sometimes wish Cornell had gotten with AiC after he quit Audioslave...they would sound seriously cool together, like in that song Right Turn off their EP Sap.

Eirie, doomed, weird, phyco vibe.... Lovit ❤❤❤❤❤Layne is precious even in such darkness...... Because he's transparent, honest in his distraught descent to madness.... And even in his dark times he was always kind, sweet and humble❤❤❤❤❤that's why I love him so much.
There's times when Layne's yeahs can be unnecessary, annoying but definitely not here. I also like the contrast between the polished, hip-looking vid and the raw, pain-filled melody + vocals. Album as a whole is more than a couple tiers below Dirt IMO but this one song is just class.

After Demri died, that was it. He lost the will to live and slowly committed suicide for the next 5 years. The stories of him shortly before he died are just heartbreaking. Weighed 110 pounds, dirty, a shell of himself. Terrible.
layne: yEAH
jerry: doot doot
If they ran for prez-VP, no doubt a great campaign slogan!

Layne Staley's voice is an instrument in itself.
Jerry’s vocals make Layne sound better!!!
Every singers voice is their instrument, just an organic one.
Perpetual kudos to Sean Kinney for contributing some of the best grunge metal drumming on every AOC release.
There is something so incredibly nostalgic about 90's riffs, the gutteral sound is intoxicating
Every song they made with Layne was a hit. We would drive around blasting AIC and singing every song as loud as the music word for word. So fun, it was the best of times for me.
Layne Staley looks so damn good with those sunglasses and that leather jacket.
Lady C ...... And the gloves.
Anubis22774 You are so right.
Lady C He just looks like a straight up badass!
+Lady C Cantrell too, ice-cool like always
+vkotis Yes...he does...so cool
They were supposedly Grunge here but Layne was looking and singing like a Rock God. Damn. I hate what happened to him. His voice is still up there as being one of the best.
This song has helped me ride through so much negativity. Also, I think it's really badass how he says hey at the start of every line. Holds my attention.
Layne looks so badass here.
No...he's in bad shape and already on the Road of No Return...dang, that would make a good song title...he was still smashing it though
R.I.P. Layne your vocals lives on. LEGEND❤

Thank you brother
@@mariesteve7327Yeah it's sad how heroin has fucked up so many people, even some people I know.
I can't talk about beautiful Layne in the past because he continues to live through the amazing music which he made
He is beautiful. You could tell he was that way inside and out. MTV unplugged was phenomenal, even though he was sick, he still killed it.
Yes, Layne was very beautiful. I think so especially in the Grind video
Totally agree. He had the sweetest laugh up until the end and was so kind and funny. I get tired of everyone still harping on his addiction, what he looked like, etc. It feels disrespectful to me.
Layne is only other blonde love, with Robert Plant ❤
everyone so obsessed w/ playing keen detective on when Layne was in what kind of condition.. another 'teeth loss' comment ffs he's gone, let it go, let him RIP...
It's a damn shame we had to lose such an amazing voice way to early. Layne is one of a kind and no one will ever come close to him. RIP
We can look at it as a glass half full, or half empty. Layne gave all he could give and more. Look at all of the greats who checked out at 27 . . . Layne was a trooper and gave us much more. You are right that no one will ever be able to imitate him. He is is one of a kind, an original.
Love AIC!
I wasn’t lucky enough to see Layne, one of the greats. R.I.P Layne
RIP Layne!
I can't believe I've loved this band for almost 30 years and yet their songs still sound so fresh! Long live AIC!!
They self-titled album is sooo underrated, a classic and very solid work!
So true... very dark but very real and raw...
This and "Would". Layne Staley just looks so fucking kick ass, along with his BRILLIANT kick ass voice. There is no substitute!
cheers
Benjamin Steele Lisa Wallis Malaika for the # 1's greatly appreciated

No probs, AiC is my favorite band after all =) . But Will kicks ass too, let's not forget :p .
Malaika Yeah, I like Will, the only person I( think could have did better would have been Marko Saaresto
Thats fucking true. :D
+Joshua I sometimes wish Cornell had gotten with AiC after he quit Audioslave...they would sound seriously cool together, like in that song Right Turn off their EP Sap.
One of my favorite bands of ALL TIME !!
Layne’s vocals on this song are crisp and pure masterful genius. Haunting & beautiful. An underrated song of theirs
Not too underrated . . . they are playing it on their current tour, and William does it justice. Saw them live . . . total awesomeness and I felt Layne the whole time.
I am 60 and still this band never fails
I am 77!!! Repeat 77 & the same still applies.Professional musicians and there music NEVER DIE.
Im 62 love Alice in Chains MOTORHEAD hard rock We are not old 🥳😂🔥🔥
Right there with you at 57. I gave you your 60th thumbs up to match your years~🤙😎
Ps. Under your comment it said 2 replies, yet none of them are showing? Huh. Kinda weird, but unfortunately typical for you tube. Gee, either that, or you must have said something in another video that they didn't like. I mean, what other explanation is there, other than just lame. Too bad it's becoming a common thing to silence people. It's possibly a mistake, but how does that even happen? Sorry, but just thought you should know the (2) replies to your comment weren't showing.
Cool the way Sean throws his drumsticks in the air at the end. Great finish.
@Jerrycantrell018_ hi!!!! That would be awsome🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I can't think of any other band that can make "toot toot yeah" sound that cool
There's times when Layne's yeahs can be unnecessary, annoying but definitely not here. I also like the contrast between the polished, hip-looking vid and the raw, pain-filled melody + vocals. Album as a whole is more than a couple tiers below Dirt IMO but this one song is just class.
All those AIC albums from 1990 - 1995 were absolute gems every one of them.
An eps 😉
"Black Gives Way to Blue" was awesome as well, if you haven't already heard it. I can listen to it front to back without skipping any songs. 10\10, would recommend. 🤟
@@hollyhayes9640it's such a wonderful magnificent album!
You mean from 92 to 95. Facelift released September of 1992. Amazing they released five great albums in three years.
Am I the only one in 2020 listening to this over and over and over again and again??? RIP Layne. You and Jerry were simply amazing!!!
All the way into 2022!!
Not the only one . . .
Still listening and still loving it.

I could listen to this song again And again, and again, and again, and again
And again, and again, and again, and again
I would listen to this every morning in my brother's badass car. My brother is gone now & each time I hear/play this I feel spiritually connected to him as I consider it 'our' song.
💙
that’s beautiful. RIP to yr bro
Layne's "Hey..." sounds so otherworldly...
Layne had such a great voice it sounds so powerful, angry, and beautiful all mixed together man was truly the GOAT of metal/rock vocalists
Only Layne could interject 'doo doot' to a heavy song and make it sound cool and sexy.
Metal disco :)
That´s genious...
It's Jerry...
Jerry rocks the Doot Doot, YEAHHHHHHHHHH
@@astrzmbie9968 it’s both of them
AIC is so different than any other band it’s ridiculous, they have a sound so unique . My favorite bank hands down in the 90’s and still today. Miss Layne so much I sure hope he knew how loved he was but I guess it didn’t matter because he didn’t love himself enough…He was such a beautiful human being…
You can really see his decline in health here... but the dudes Vocals never waivered... Layne = LEGEND
Sadly it did to an extent :( Compare love hate love to something like this and it doesnt compare. Live at the moore with alice in chains vs live at the moore with madseason really shows how bad things had gotten:(
I actually liked Mad Season at the Moore. I agree with Alice in Chains at the Moore was better, but it was also I think 4 or 5 years earlier...
Hopefully Layne teaches us something, miss Layne!
YOU MADE A FOOL OF ME AGAIN.
Matt Whalen he did live another 6 more years...js
rip Layne! your vocals are unmatched
favourite grunge band it used to be nirvana until i started listening to these
so what is it that hit you about A I C ,, compared to " dem " ?
If you love both Nirvana and Alice In Chains, you must heard Mad Season and some Soundgarden too
Same has happened to me :-) Glad to find another person.
Javier Sebastian Martin Suarez Peinado yes!! Lol sorry i love mad season especially wake up 😊 you heard that right turn of layne staley and chris cornell
SSAB P I honestly don’t know i think it was listening to the song would by aic
71 and I still rock to this group
Right On! I'm 58 and still Jam to AIC!:)~
dang your old dude
Ain’t it awesome knowing you were part of an era in which album covers weren’t selfie based?😅
My husband too
Right behind you bro. I’m almost 62 and still rock out every day 👍🏼🤘🏼
There will never be another band like this ever again.
The epitome of Layne Staley, raw, crunchy vocals and appearance to the max. Mad respect, sorry we lost one of the greats. Rip Layne
The best part of this song for me is the “aaaaaaaah-OOH!” at 2:23
I don’t know why. I just fucking love it
Damn there's so many AIC songs I didn't know there was a video for. Glad this song has a video.
Riiight😋
👏🏻👏🏻
i really appreciate aic's ability to seamlessly mix together this metal riff and a few "doot doot''s in the same song
Alice in Chains rocks my world!
"You made a fool of me again."
@ 4:04 The proper way to dispose off drumsticks. Sean Kinney experienced a bad headache. He is super cool!
Benoît Placide drumsticks, as in chicken drumsticks! HAHAHA! =D
Melissa MF ahahahah i don t use chicken drumsticks to play .... maybe just Bones ahahahah=D
HAHA funny=D
The greatest rock band of all time.
Great memories
My 18 month old son singing it in the backseat 😂
He's now a CPO in the Navy...😊
Idk why I love this part so much 2:45
Wishing he still would be alive and rocking.😢
Rip Layne,Andrew and Chris.Beautiful spirit, Brilliant singers.
First AiC song I ever heard; immediately loved it since I could quickly tell that these guys had a fucking attitude problem.
Colonel Hart
Kurt Cobain and his attitude did some serious screaming and definitely tore shit up in his fits of rage and defiance... he is the definition of beautiful destruction!! Have u ever checked out some of his videos on here? If not, I highly recommend u do so!!
Niomi Elston lol yeah I'm actually a longtime Nirvana fan I just like AIC better. Aneurysm is probably my favourite Nirvana song, but this song in particular shows the different attitude: Cobain is defiant and vulnerable in his rage, whereas Staley is defiant and nihilistic.
Colonel Hart I really like the Lake of Fire cover
+Colonel Hart attitude problem? their not greenday or some shit lol they just made kickass music no acting or dumb on stage persona
All true. That’s why they are the best and so is Grunge.
I always liked Alice In Chains, but I never appreciated them as much as I do now.
Sobernic1982 yeah, same here...I grew up with these guys but now, since I'm older, ive been able to appreciate them more...their basically my favorite rock band if I had to say so
There will be never be another era of music like the 90s and Layne own the 90s
Same
Bc as we grow through life we see that what layne sings about we are going through or have been through.. perspectives change with time. Souls grow with the ebb and flow of life
@RavenShield78 lol
The best band to come outta that Seattle scene.
AiC made the scene... They put Seattle on the map making it easier for other bands ..
Agreed.
@@Mdsredtoo true yo
Layne has the most extremely unique sounding vocals/voice I've ever heard. Him and Stephen Pearcy of Ratt. Awesome singers.
Two of my favorite bands...Get out of my head!
Funny enough layne was inspired of Stephen Pearcy, you can see this influence in Alice In Chains early songs
@@nonameman7114 You guys are great. Only two days ago I was pondering the similarity of Pearcy, Layne and to some extent Ratt and AIC.
@@kennypowers3984 I got into AIC first and no longer listen to them but I love Ratt.
ColtraneTaylor yeah I love hair metal it puts me into a good mood, I think some of those bands get too much hate.
Layne was one of a kind... A very special person who ever lived in this world 😢
1:48 Sean dressed like a cop and Jerry as a prisoner 😂
I never realized how impressive them long stretch of No's are in this song. He holds his breath for a while singing that. Been loving this band for decades!!!
I love the shots where we can see layne singing and Cantrell in the background ripping his guitar.
This song was a part of the soundtrack during my drug use days. The lyrics and the overall vibe of the song described the war inside of a user.

Not a lot of people are into grunge my dude.
+qwerty6801 People just don't appreciate good music these days. They'd rather listen to rihanna and nicki minaj than these phenomenal musicians.
I always thought Chains were a little more metallic than they were "grunge" (I hate that term, it's all rock at the end of the day). Like compare AIC and Peal Jam; they sound nothing like each other.
Now it has 5 million
I remember the first time I heard Alice In Chains. I was absolutely blown away love that Jerry Cantrell super chunky playing and Laynes voice was just incredible I grew up in the 70s and 80s and this was my introduction to the grunge scene and led me to discover other bands like Sonic Temple, Soundgarden and Nirvana.
25 years later and still one of my favorite AIC songs! Gives you a swift kick in the butt when it's needed.
