I would like to point to this specific riff as a key element in popularizing dropped-D tuning, with the ability to quickly slide and hammer-on/pull-off full power chords rather than just single notes. Helmet's style directly led to a new direction in metal (call it nu-metal if you must) that was dominant from the mid 90s to the early 2000s.
Man, to be honest, ever since Page brought Helmet back I found most of the old songs mediocre live. I wouldn't mind the different tuning they had while playing them if his shot vocals didn't ruin them.
That intro riff is one of my favorites i ever heard. Mainly the "studio" version, how isolated, almost muddy it sounds.
This brings me back to 1990’s the best times!
follow them since 1991. Never dissapointed me.
Best song of Strap It On.
Indeed.
Absolutely
Hell yeah
no, the whole album is the “best song”.
That bass sounds absolutely mind blowing, holly shit!
1:32 remains the greatest metal riff ever written.
ur fcking right!
So fucking fun to play live
It is the greatest riff ever! Helmet was obviously influential to my guitar playing too.

I’d heard enough by then😢
My most favourite tune from Helmet ever, interesting to see it played by different people.
10/10 all day.
Always loved the swing in the chorus of this song.
Page's voce and playing is always great, younger or older doesn't matter
Murdered it.🖤
In Sinatra's world.
Glad to see KEXP posting some metal \m/
Heck of a drummer - not easy coming after John Stanier. I like that fast new version.
John Tempesta was on Helmet on 2004 and 2005. Another killer drummer.
Helmet still rocks and rules
My absolute favourite Helmet track. Pure murder. Love it.
The groove is insane. Almost sludgy.
I also love the one liner "walk on top, you run beneath" even when i don´t even know what it means haha.
Walk on top, you run beneath
Blacktop spreads, blacktop speeds !
The best HC rock 'n' roll !!!
Always one of my favourites.....so clean!
Nice, been looking for a good version of this
Man, that Aus tour with the Melvins was sick. Busted out some Repetition, boy howdy!

The new tuning just doesn't work, even if his vocals weren't shot.
@@cavanray6742 it sounds amazing in drop C, it works great
Why does it have to be so angry?
The drummer looks like he’s using ever fiber of his being to keep rhythm
Helmet isn’t Helmet without John Stanier. Sorry new drummer.
That's just like your opinion, man.
@@brentsaylor1725he’s right their current drummer rushes the songs, Tempesta was the best drummer after Stanier
