Ram Dass was not a drug dealer and LSD wasn't illegal at the time. He was a former professor of psychology at Harvard, curious about how Maharaji would explain the effects of LSD, because he and his former colleagues hadn't figured out a way to put it into words. Maharaji, of course, being who he was and as powerful as he was, was unaffected by the drug. It was a siddhi. Later when Ram Dass asked how he had felt, Maharaji simply said that meditation was better.

I remember someone let me borrow his copy of Be Here Now by Ram Dass and reading that first chapter about Neem Karoli Baba. It instantly ignited the spark within me that had just needed coaxing into life. It was years later that I read another book by Ram Dass and there was a chapter on Anandamayi Ma with two photos. I cannot explain the transformation into joy, but in Her words: 'worldly pleasures become boring and empty, they are no longer acceptable to you. You body refuses them.'
There is so much more, that was just a part of the quote and now life is filled with blissful moments.
