    Went and saw the movie last night with my mom. After the movie she pointed out something very interesting. Dwarfism is considered a mutation to our human biology. So they essentially had what we would consider a "mutant" playing the guy who wanted to experiment on, and wipe out the mutants of the X-men world. Can't help but wonder if that was intentional now on the Director's part or just a coincidence.

    • @Azatarot75
      @Azatarot75 10 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      A very interesting thought from your mom, actually...could well have BEEN intentional, knowing Singer.

    • @TainoMantis
      @TainoMantis 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There's a scene in the film where Bolivar Trask (Dinklage's character) is observed to "hate mutants a lot". Trask says that he doesn't hate them, but instead finds them fascinating and sees them as the key to learn more about themselves (thus him wanting to experiment on them). The sentinel's obviously turned on humanity though - we've seen that in the Matrix movies, Terminator movies, and other genre. A.I. does have that capacity. "Hope" is the moral of this film. Hope to better understand what is not understood....

    • @LouieViray
      @LouieViray 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True buy what separates that mutation and the others is that it's a mutant X gene. I'm not a big expert on genetics but I'm sure that it's different and doesn't matter much if he's a dwarf or not unless Trask had a real power.

    • @KazeAizen
      @KazeAizen 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Louie Viray ..........I think you kind of missed the point of what I was saying. I was basically saying the director was trying to say something subtly in the movie via that casting choice.

    This movie while awesome kind of felt like damage control, wiping X-Men 3 and Origins - Wolverine from existence but keeping First Class in the canon. Well it's the best damn damage control ever then because this might be the best X-Men movie.

      @captainjakemerica4579 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kolbe Howard Not true Kolbe. This movie is not damage control. It's 5% damage control 95% awesome movie. This movie tells a great story with an intriguing plot along with great characters and some of the best action scenes in the X-Men series. Repairing the damage of The Last Stand and Origins was just an added benefit. At least it erased the 2 bad movies from the continuity.

    • @Nazrat84
      @Nazrat84 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Andy Wu No. Feige is responsible for the worst MCU outings. Let Singer be worthy competition to whatever Disney throws at them. X-Men is at it's best when it doesn't touch the Avengers, just like in the comics.

    • @andrewwu5241
      @andrewwu5241 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nazrat84 hmm idk, a big part of the xmen comics is when they are part of the avengers

    • @Nazrat84
      @Nazrat84 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Andy Wu No they weren't, the biggest things were always X-Men exclusive. Stuff like Avengers vs. X-Men were small time in comparison to their individual major events.

    • @hellionaire1209
      @hellionaire1209 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree the highest selling Marvel comics were X-Men and Spider-Man comics. Fantastic Four as well in the 60s. The Avengers were pretty popular but not as popular. The 2012 film was pretty much was the first time the team was really mainstream. The Infinity War story lines were pretty popular though I guess.

    I think part of the reason this movies is so good is because of how little they showed in the trailer of both the story and action. I wish more movies would keep you from seeing everything in.the trailer the way tho one did.

    • @Azatarot75
      @Azatarot75 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So they DIDN'T blow all the surprises in the prerelease trailers and clips? Fancy that....and here I've been having to explain to all the trolls that a film like this is actually longer than the total 6 minutes of clip previews we'd seen before then.

    • @smgmaster3763
      @smgmaster3763 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's because they marketed this movie well. I do agree that nowadays some trailers spoil too much of the movie and forget about the technique that are supposed to be used in a movie trailer like abruptly interrupting a scene where a character looks like he's about to die or something is coming at him/her. That technique is used to have people go see the rest of what was interrupted in the trailer. That's what trailers are there for. They're there to basically say to the audience, "Go see the movie if you want to see what happens to X, Y, and Z."

    • @NikiDimitrov

      ***** Blame auteur theory, Mr. Johnson, that persistent little meme that has been entrenched for a long time which says (sometimes erroneously) that the director is the actual author of the film. But unless you're Nolan or Hitchcock, that's rarely the case, as you've just pointed out.

      I don't know what y'all are complaining about, superman returns to me is a better film than man of steel...the actor who played superman is a better fit too, there i said it...bring on the hate, anyway there are things still left unexplained in days of future past, i hate open ended endings, how come wolverine didn't remember what happened, he gets saved by mystique pretending to be william stryker, you would think she told him what happened, they didn't fix the time paradox , he lived through the altered timeline and he has been living in charles's mansion for many years...how come he just forgot, its not like bryan singer has all the answers

      Im ruining it for myself by wondering what was the point in getting magneto/erik? Charles, wolverine and hank couldve easily stopped raven. Erik wouldnt have tried to stop her and shot her in the process and the sentinel program wouldnt have been given the ok. Erik just made things more complicated than necessary lol. I loved the movie but thats just a plot hole i probably wont get over.

    Agree the Kitty Pryde 'time travel' thing was weird. But I could stretch my acceptance. Passing through matter, passing through time...sure. Hey, if it means undoing the damage of Last Stand...I'm good with it.
    Really it was a great movie. I haven't been as huge with the x-men aside from the animated series (though I've enjoyed the good movies in this franchise). But this was good. It was a strong movie from start to finish. Maybe...maybe I'd have liked even more futuristic action, but I get they can only fit so much in there. The movie was so strong that the amount of action we got was fine.

    This is my favorite "X-Men" movie now. When it comes to comic book movies, the action is what ultimately blows me away but this movie's drama blew me away instead. There was just so much dramatic tension in the narrative. The climax had me so nervous I'm surprised I wasn't sweating bullets and hyperventilating while it was going down. More than anything, this movie was Bryan Singer's love letter to fans who have been there since the first movie. Some sequences are direct callbacks to signature sequences from the first two movies, particularly the second one. One scene involving Msytique and another involving Magneto notably resembled certain scenes from "X2" that I won't spoil because it's far more rewarding to see them for oneself. These scenes had me grinning immensely and the ending had me wanting to stand up in applause. Quite a few people actually did. Please, Bryan Singer, DON'T LEAVE US AGAIN!

    • @Azatarot75
      @Azatarot75 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I would argue that spectacle has its place but it is very, very nice when you can get what you're talking about in the bargain.
      I never had any fears about this film being a mega-success from the first actual trailer I saw (now if I can just get around to seeing the film...it sucks to be without a car and poor!). All I had to do was remember going to see the first X-Men film in theaters with a friend of mine because the other options sucked. I even told her that if this film DID suck, I'd take full responsibility. Instead, I was blown away by how good it was...still am. So when I heard of Singer coming back and kept soaking up the drips of the film publicly released, I knew everything would be great. Good to know I was right!

    • @CouchCit
      @CouchCit 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seriously, anybody trying to rationalize Kitty's time travel powers sound retarded, because the notion of it is pretty retarded. If anything, the powers seemed to be more telepathic in nature since she was transporting the consciousness of a person into their earlier body. This is the reason why it was Rachel Summers who did it in the comic, and why they should've just made Professor X the one to perform it. Would've made a helluva lot more sense (especially the part when Charles communicates with old Charles through Logan), and the plot could've played out basically the same.

    I love the fact that Jeremy was so jazzed about the "X2" theme playing at the start. I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to film scores, and the fact that Singer and the composer John Ottman brought back a lot of the themes from "X2" in this film and "Apocalypse" actually meant a lot to me. It's a shame that so many sequels and franchises these days don't keep consistent musical themes between films. Music is just as important as the image onscreen much of the time, and recurring themes always subtly tie franchises together and give them a certain sense of consistency in my opinion. It's just... special to hear a recognizable theme.
    I'm really hoping that if the next film really is a Phoenix-saga film like some are theorizing that they retain the themes and music as they have with the past few films.

  • @0neTwenty5
    @0neTwenty5 10 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    Just watched it, loved it but there are just some minor nitpicks about the movie.
    1) I know we are all pretending X-3 and Origins: Wolverine didn't happen, but I wished Bryan Singer managed to string everything together, even if he was going to reboot the continuity. DOFP didn't explain how Prof X is back alive and in a hoverchair (I know this was hinted at the end of X-3, but still), how Origins fitted into the timeline and I was hoping Quicksilver would be that link (Since we saw him/some other speedster in Origins). Oh well, guess even Bryan Singer couldn't fix that trainwreck.
    2) How Wolverine got his metal claws back (I read somewhere that Magneto might have had something to do with it, but also, unexplained) and Kitty's power upgrade. Hopefully this will show up in the extended edition.
    3) Almost 80% of the First Class mutants were killed off screen or had like 10 second cameos which is a huge shame cos it made First Class feel kinda irrelevant.
    4) No Stan Lee lol.

      1) in the same way that all the comics don't completely fit together, there is no need to force every single movie in the marvel universe to follow cannon verbatim. Would you rather they deliver a fun, entertaining movie or force all these movies to work together as a whole?
      2) It doesn't matter how he got his claws back....that story is completely irrelevant to the plot of this particular movie.
      3)First class had too many mutants anyway. Again, they were not necessary to tell this story.
      4) I did miss stan lee. I'm sure he's in there somewhere.

For starters, it introduces several new characters we didn't met before, like that portal chick (Blinx, I believe?) who are just there to give you nothing but cool action scenes and get killed; Shadowcat can transport persons back to the past, a power she never showed before, with no explanation ever given; Storm barely has a role in this movie and in the biggest slap to the face in the whole movie series, gets unceremoniously killed off very soon into the final battle in the future; the movie does not explain how Charles was revived, and even watching X3's post-credits scene, something many didn't, all is too cryptic, neither is it explained how Logan got back his adamantium claws when they were clearly shown to have been cut off in The Wolverine, and the whole thing with the Sentinels doesn't even make sense. Why didn't they appear before? Not explained. Why was Mystique's DNA applied only until much later when it was supposedly taken in the 70s? Never addressed.
    Sorry, but the convoluted plot full of holes and inconsistencies cannot be ignored and don't allow me to give this movie more than a "no alcohol required" rating, which is good, but nowhere near the overrated reviews many have been giving this movie.

      Did you read what I what I wrote? No, it's not because many praise it. It's because it is convoluted, confusing and has even more plot holes and unexplained things than X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

    • @jaimemora9613
      @jaimemora9613 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The only huge plot hole was how Professor X was brought back to life. The other two minor ones where Wolverine getting his metal claws back, and how Kitty discover her time traveling powers. Though an explanation would have been nice it wasn't that big of a deal. I am sure they manage to get Wolverine's metal claws back somehow, and Kitty's power are just a secondary mutation.
      Though it would have been cool to know a little more about the new mutants, there just mutants trying to survive the Sentinel ruled world. So Storm was killed, what of it? She is still alive with time changing, and she died in the comic book version too.
      I am sure they didn't have the technology to utilize Mystique's DNA into the Sentinels at the time.

    • @Apostol407
      @Apostol407 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jaime Mora
      It's true the synthetic sentinels couldn't be made at the time, but the movie still clearly shows that there were sentinels in the 70s and it doesn't explain why they weren't used.
      And it's not that Storm gets killed. It's how she got killed and how early it was into the fight. She barely even appeared in the movie, and that is a big setback.
      Also, tell me, how are you going to not explain the fact that a mutant with no time travel powers, which is a very big deal, and with powers that are completely unrelated to time travel, suddenly can send people back in time? Sorry, it doesn't make sense and it just confuses you a lot.
      And having too many characters you didn't even know of is throwing too much at you. It's unsettling and you can't even relate to them that much because they barely get character development. Like I said, they are just there to give cool fight scenes that make you turn your brain off.

    • @jaimemora9613
      @jaimemora9613 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We both have very different perspective on the movie, just like everyone else lol of course theres nothing wrong with that. As far as Kitty's time traveling powers, it really isn't a big deal there are several mutants who have gone through a secondary mutation that are completely unrelated to their primary mutations. Examples: Emma Frost primary power is telepathy, and her second mutation is her diamond form.

  • @TargetPermanent

    Yes, Kitty can "walk through walls", but her power is technically altering the third dimension. It makes sense for her powers to increase to be able to alter the fourth.

    I'm going to borrow this idea from Spoony's review, but it's an interesting take, that maybe Peter Dinklage was cast on purpose. He said he admired mutants, and he himself is technically a mutation, but without cool powers like mutants. So he possibly built the sentinel program as a ventilation of his jealousy.

    • @ExBruinsFan
      @ExBruinsFan 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting idea, but no. Pure stunt casting due to industry popularity.
      It would have been cool, if the sentinels had registered Trask as a mutant, though.
      Spoony sold out to his GF. She loved it, and he trashed it for two hours, and then said he liked it. I like her, but she's clearly leading him by the dick.

    The movie was good I enjoyed it, but it also pissed me off the reason why this movies pissed me off is because...
    *major spoiler*
    Every single X-Men get their ass handed to them horribly in very pathetic ways.
    The X-Men are suppose to be the *BEST OF THE BEST* and yet they all get buttstomp by few Sentinels I must admit that i have no idea how strong these Sentinel are, but come on this was embarrassing...
    Storm did put up a fight, but she was stab in the back and there she goes down first... (Yeah right)
    Colossus easily get rip in half as easily as you can break a spaghetti stick in half. *Lol*
    Bishop didn't do shit and he get totally destroy by three lazer hitting him...
    Sunspot was cool and did put up a fight, but didn't do any damages he was easily defeated and stabbed and then throw away like trash.
    Iceman was the most useless and pathetic one he hold off the sentinel for what? 5-10 seconds and then get kill right away by few lazer... *(This was very sad to watch...)*
    Magneto even him was kind of useless, but he was old and the sentinel wasn't made of metal, but I think he could have done more stuff to help, he was hit by something and then retreat to safety as far as I know he didn't die.
    Blink is the only one who actually put up a fight was she was the last one standing until three sentinel stab her.
    Xavier didn't do anything during the fight and he didn't die.
    Wolverine doesn't count since he wasn't really there.
    And the other are not important.
    So yeah so much for the best mutant team ever crushed super easily like little ants.
    Anyone can tell me why they were killed so easily?

    • @UnknownZealot77
      @UnknownZealot77 10 ปีที่แล้ว +128

      The sentinels adapted to counteract their abilities dude. Colossus was ripped in half because the sentinels began to be composed of the same metal that colossus is made out of so his advantage was completely nulified. Bishop was able to kill several sentinels before he got killed. The one you called pyro was actually sunspot and I agree he didn't do shit, even when the sentinels were clearly not affected by his flames he continued to spray them instead of retreating to a better position.

But this guys... were like a version of Nimrod. If you know your X-men, Nimrod's one tough cookie. I wasn't disappointed, I actually love how Dire it was cause that's basically what happens in the comic, the original one. They get pwned by the *commom* sentinels.

      Logan basically changed the course of history, because what happened whem he went back didnt happen from his original time line everything had the potential to takr different little turns. Basically the first 3 movies dont matter anymore. Beast and scott and jean are all alive and everythings okay (for now). Logan was the only one sent back so his conciousness just plopped into the new timeline. Since trask is alive and magneto knows about the sentinels theyll probably be in the next movie and if you stayed for the end credits apocolypse is the new villain.

    On KITTY PRYDE: TIME is a dimension. Kitty pride already uses her abilities to phase through solid matter (using the 4th dimensional space to bypass 3D solid objects) it's only a tiny stretch of her powers that gets you from there to TIME TRAVEL. She phases through 5th dimensional space to bypass the 4th dimension (time).

I want to know why everyone seems to forget the lead in at the end of The Wolverine was completely forgotten about and not linked up to the beginning of this movie at all. I see it as just a lead in movie to Age of Apocalypse which I am very excited for. BTW Bishop holds his own against an army of sentinels for a bit there so he does do something. He'll definitely do a spoiler talk, don't worry! But seriously, Quicksilver was fucking awesome.

    I think maybe the reason Kitty Pride can send people through time is not that her powers make her able to walk through walls, but she can bend space and time and stuff, so really she might be sending the walls and crap she touches back in time or forward of whatever to whenever it didn't exist.

    PLOT HOLE(S):
    1. If Wolverine's mind has the ability to heal under "critical conditions" (Kitty Pryde mind-warping Wolverine's mind into the past), then how come his mind can't heal from the adamantium gunshot wounds that he suffered from in "X-Men: Wolverine Origins?"
    2. Why not send Wolverine back in time to "a couple weeks" before the Paris Peace Accords (The place where Mystique is suppose to kill Bolivar Trask) instead of "a couple days" before the event so that they wouldn't be so pressed for time to find Mystique?
    3. Why didn't they CONTINUE to use Quicksilver to help them with the mission after they freed Magneto from the Pentagon (They could have used Quicksilver's superspeed to stop Mystique from shooting President Nixon and Bolivar Trask)
    4. How does Magneto's manipulation of the Sentinels allow for him to control the "computer systems" of the Sentinels and stop them from attacking him as a mutant? (His magnetism only controls metal NOT computer system functions)
    5. Since Mystique's powers only copy the physical appearance of humans/mutants and NOT their powers, then how can the Future Sentinels copy the powers of other mutants if they function from her DNA?
    6. What "real need" was there for them to free Magneto from The Pentagon if they were easily able to proceed with the mission after Magneto runs away from them after the Paris Peace Accords? In fact, why burden themselves with the mission of breaking out Magneto, in the first place, when they could have just skipped that and just taken Quicksilver with them to the Paris Peace Accords and just used his superspeed to prevent Mystique from beating up everyone in the room and attempting to shoot Bolivar Trask?
    All in all, I LOVE the film and give the film a 8.7/10.

      1.His consciousness can survive in the past, but only if he maintains peaceful thoughts. Kitty Pride is just holding the balance. As soon as something upsets or distracts him - like the time he remembered Stryker, he is no good.
      2. It is because they are hiding in the future, or our current present where there is a great danger from sentinels. If the sentinels find them or kill them before changing the past it is all over. They were in a hurry.
      3.Silver is just a kid and a small thief. They did not want to drag him to fight in their war, or allow to someone capture him on a film.His mother was already aplogizing to wolverine, charles and hank before they meet him.
      4.Maybe that metal somehow fused or integrated with the motherboard(lol). It is a comic book plot ''mechanism''.
      5. Her DNA was used so sentinels can adapt to mutant attacks not copy their power. Then in the future would just find countermeasure for the attack. You could see in the end that most of the time sentinels just stab mutants to kill them.
      6. Quicksilver can't affect her mindset. Magneto was closer to her than anybody else. Since Magneto is ultimate mutant who fights for mutant liberty and rights, Charles thought that he could persuade her not to kill Trask.
      There you go!
