Nice to see 4770A still flying! My dad owned it back in the seventies in Oklahoma. I had my first flight lesson in it and I have almost forty hours flying it back then. Looks good in it's new colors.

I love that Evan's airplane (That I logged .2 in on this flight) has Oklahoma roots. I'm a native Okie.

@@sierraharrop2827 it was based in Duncan, Ok in the mid seventies when my dad owned 70A. I really enjoyed my time as a student pilot flying it. I even got second place in a spot landing contest at a fly-in in Pauls Valley in about '76 or '77.

Nice. Lawton native. Wasn’t born until ‘84, though.

This was my favorite place to explore, growing up in Trona, Ca as a kid in the 60's! Beautifully done.

Interesting approach into Trona, sandwiched between R-2505 and R-2524, nice!

trainroomgary Trona Railway actually...running some ancient SP Tunnel Motors and UP SD40s...truly out of this world to see what I think is a crewed helper.

@@FlyingFiddler I just had to check the comments and see if someone would even mention the Trona Railway or think of them as UP units. I am surprised that this happended within the first 9 comments!

Felix yessir. Flying out that way offers some good views of the Trona Railway. The sound of a lash-up of 4 tunnel motors in the year 2020 is something special.

Are you flying above 500ft to prevent colliding with an rc model? Do you bother with these rules?

    • @oneskydog4401
      @oneskydog4401 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@big5astra If you are a drone pilot you are operating VFR see and avoid just like GA pilots. Read the regulations 500 ft of persons and vehicles or structures. Drone pilots do not own Class E or G airspace below 500 ft if you can make a safe landing from 10 ft in a barren desert you are right with the FAA.

big5astra I know you won’t look it up so add this to your RC data base. It is drone responsibility to stay out of all aircraft conflict. www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_fliers/where_can_i_fly/airspace_101/

      91.119 Minimum safe altitudes; general
Except when necessary for takeoff or landing, no person may operate an aircraft below the following altitudes:
      (a) Anywhere - An altitude allowing, if a power unit fails, an emergency landing without undue hazard to persons or property on the surface.
      (b) Over congested areas - Over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open-air assembly of persons, an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet of the aircraft.
      (c) Over other than congested areas - An altitude of 500 feet above the surface except over open water or sparsely populated areas. In that case, the aircraft may not be operated closer than 500 feet to any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure.
      (d) Helicopters - Helicopters may be operated at less than the minimums prescribed In paragraph (b) or (c) of this section if the operation is conducted without hazard to persons or property on the surface. In addition, each person operating a helicopter shall comply with routes or altitudes specifically prescribed for helicopters by the Administrator.

@@oneskydog4401 We were in full compliance with that. Backcountry airplanes, capable pilots, flat desert underneath us. Never did we get within 500 feet of a structure, person, or vehicle.
Our standard isn't "stay above 500 in the off chance of some kid with a toy", it is "can I land it if the engine quits?" and that was met at all times.

@Paul Harrop Nice I posted that for the drone operator who seemed to think you were ignoring the FAR’s and thinks drone have an exclusive 400 ft of airspace. I just bought a Tri-Pacer last summer E95.
