I'm so happy to see your comment! Your performance remains one of my favourites from this show. I found out much later that your monologue is an excerpt from 'The Gingham Dog' by Lanford Wilson.
I did my Master's thesis on the meaning of Ms. Taft's performance. The phrase is "the Hutch embodied," Hutch being the name of her now ex-husband she is addressing. She is referring to the son they had together -- equal parts of both of them -- whom she loved like cinnamon because he was part her husband as well. Their son however had tragically died prior to their breakup. Here she expresses actual gratitude at their son's death, because if he were still alive she felt she would murder him for reminding her of her now-hated ex. By the way, I will be doing my doctoral dissertation on the meaning of the unseen mic drop at the end.
I did, and I'm happy to say I have since received my PhD, and the committee actually stood up in unison and applauded me for at least five steady minutes.
Legend has it that her next song led to the discovery of “Cinnamon” in a shallow grave along the waters edge of the Hudson....Precious is currently serving 4 consecutive life sentences performing her acts for a captive audience
Yes, Frank's intros and summations are as you say-- pure gold. If you have time to track down the vid of the whole episode that includes Gloria 'Huddle's rendition of "Operator" (get me Jesus on the line), Frank's remarks when Gloria finally finishes are, no exaggerating, pure magic.
I love the thud of the microphone as devastated Precious lets it fall to the floor. In your face Meryl Streep because that's acting and improvising at its FINEST! I'm going to buy a helmet and attend your next performance Precious!!!
Right above your comment on my screen, she wrote, 'I'M ALL GROWN UP NOW! THANK YOU ALL! :)' Voilà! www.youtube.com/@theempireofjesuschristworl6877/videos
Subtitled to the best of my ability: "He was cinnamon when I hugged him, and he was always equal parts you and me-- that's why I loved him and ... gassssp... and wanted him. Because he was the love of the Hutchinbodied. And now the thought, the thought of that child curdles me and I.... oh I.. OH LORD.. i ONLY thank the Benevolent God for being wiser than me, because if a son existed now I swear I'D BASH HIS BRAINS INTO THE GOD DAMN RADIATOR.."
+Emily Wilson It's actually from a play called THE GINGHAM DOG by Lanford Wilson. But Precious Taft took slight artistic liberty with the actual words in her performance here -- to make it even more DRAMATIK, of course!
" And sometimes he was cinnamon, but often there was a turmeric aftertaste that just ruined the whole meal, so I had to bash his brains against the goddamn radiator !! ".
Why do some videos on this channel allow comments and others don't? c'mon guys! open them all up to comments, lets face it the show had so many unintentionally hilarious moments, and the comments make it even more hilarious. It's 40+ years ago, you aren't gonna hurt anyones feelings! Open them up!
Believe it or not but there are several people that appeared on this show who have specifically requested their videos be removed, or their names removed, or to not allow comments. These are real people with feelings that were hurt, suffered depression, or worse. Also, TH-cam generally doesn't allow comments on videos that feature kids as a standard setting. That being said, probably 95% of the videos on this channel allow comments, so I'm not sure what you're missing out on.
She's actually a singer but was having a fight with her baby daddy and it flowed out onto the stage. The clapping part got awkward when you know the entire story.
The dramatic mic drop. The hair! The crying and screaming!! Precious Taft, you are timeless!

I like the piano tinkling downward at the end, like brain bits sliding down the GODDAMN RADIATOR.
😂😂😂😂😂
OH LORD😂😂😊
LMAO Dude this fucking comment caught me off guard so bad. But it does! LMAO

Ron Williams you did your masters thesis on Stairway to Stardom???
I did, and I'm happy to say I have since received my PhD, and the committee actually stood up in unison and applauded me for at least five steady minutes.
That was beautiful, Precious.
WOW! TOTALLY! I've been watching this video over and over for years always confused but amused. But ur thesis nails it on the head! Thanks.
That was deep; very deep!!!
Still better than anything on CBS.
Legend has it that her next song led to the discovery of “Cinnamon” in a shallow grave along the waters edge of the Hudson....Precious is currently serving 4 consecutive life sentences performing her acts for a captive audience
That was beautiful precious.
"That was beautiful, Precious. You may now begin your comedy routine when you are ready."
Frank always knew just what to say
She’s never babysitting my son! I’ve just had my radiators painted plus there’s cinnamon in my cupboard
😂😂😂
😂😂
One of the best videos on the internet.
This reminds me of Parker Posey’s monologue in “Waiting for Guffman.”
"... ...that was beautiful Precious..." That comment was GOLD, truly the perfect ending to that clip - could not have been better. Frank was awesome!

WOW that's very profound poetry.
I can see this being used in an ad for radiators some day.
How does 1 bash their brains against the goddam radiator without damaging the radiator, cause after watching this,it’s exactly what I want to do.
I suppose the rest of this clip is lost but I've always been morbidly curious to see the full performance.
*Drops microphone after poem like a boss*
The awkward part is that this was supposed to be a stand-up routine.
And is that Alan Arkin at the end? Man, that dude is versatile.
TH-cam algorithm brings us together once again!
This was not about radiators.
1:05 of the best video on youtube, and Frank delivering the punch line at the end, perfect.
He looked genuinely terrified. 😂

+e2theeyepie What a terrible title. Clearly a shit play.
Sounds right lol
Does anybody remember when The Daily Show showed this during the "Public Excess" segment 11 or so years ago?
"That was beautiful, Precious"
Frank was almost at a loss for words this time 😂
So precious... 😎🖤👍
Little know fact. She is the great granddaughter of William Howard Taft our 27th president and first black president.
And sometimes he was cinnamon???
Yea only on Tuesdays of every other month.
I'd imagine he'd be a bit big for the spice rack.
She's crying cause she hates cinnamon.
😂
" And sometimes he was cinnamon, but often there was a turmeric aftertaste that just ruined the whole meal, so I had to bash his brains against the goddamn radiator !! ".
I only thank the benevolent Lord for being wiser than me
She slayed me at :54 when she dropped the mic.
Yooooo Who's here from 2023?¿
Is Cinnamon related to Corn Pop?
bad ass dress Precious rockin.. wonder if she still has it? Let me call up 1983 and ask.
It's a shame Law and Order didn't exist in the 80's cause I would have loved to seen an episode about this show,LOL.
She invented Slam Poetry......
Today Precious could grab an Oscar if only she could find Ava Duverney's people.
This video just reminded me that I have to check the antifreeze in my GODDAMN RADIATOR! Thanks, Precious!
I'm not gonna lie , I got very emotional watching this
precious just.......precious
Sometimes he was cinnamon? He sounds delicious
All of the miscues on the piano come at just the right times!!!! HAHAHAHA
@breadmaker I know, I'm really trying to figure out what the hutch embodied is...
I think all of precious' problems can be traced back to one defining moment. The choosing of her name.
Frank....That was beautiful Precious......lol
Prozac helped me with my bipolar issues.

"The Hutch embodied" would have to be the best lyric ever.
Why is she mad at me?
Hope you bought radiator covers
Oh come on people. We've all had this moment but usually with handcuffs clinking not key notes twinkling.
Was that a money shot at 0:22?
I think the host is back stage drinking hard liquor during these performances.
This is Frank’s Special Guest??
Still weird after all these year.
Wow. 😲
I googled hutchemboduhbodider or whatever she said and the only thing I got was this video.
She still does this monologue today, but usually only in the employee break room at the local Popeyes chicken.
he was cinnamon? as in toast crunch? wtf is this?
Talent. Did she make it? I hope so.
Looks like an 80s Soap opera monologue!
What did the microphone do to anyone? !!
you can hear her drop the mic at 0:53
