It's largely in the hands of the referee. Weak refs let too many fouls pass. Stronger refs assert their control early on, put down a marker with a few early yellow cards. The latter type is rare which is on FIFA. They write the rule books and lack the expertise to realize why women soccer has become rougher and rougher over the years. Once serious injuries start to occur FIFA may get sued big time, as they should.

And Germany's goalie is superb and part of the reason why Sweden could not pull off a win. BUT there was a noticeable difference in the types of the many fouls (and there should have been even more calls): Germany's fouls were mostly the result of clumsy blocking and some pushing. Sweden's were ACTUAL foul play, with deliberate tripping, arm holds, shirt pulls and painful stepping on an opponent's feet or ankles. In other words Sweden played very dirty soccer.
Both teams looking very good. Hoping that Spain, England, Sweden and Germany stop the US whatever they are called from a three peat and challenge for the WC.
Nope. It looks like the European teams woke up the bear at end of 2022. The USWNT will probably three peat. They have the higher ceiling out of all of the teams
Don’t you think it’d be cool to finally see a team win three world cups in a row? Literally no men or women’s team has done it. It’d be such an amazing feat to witness
The wrestling coach of the Swedish soccer team needs to be congratulated. He did an outstanding job of training the players in the high art of arm- and body blocking. The soccer coach just went along for the ride. Fortunately, the gods guided the team and kept them on the straight and narrow. That is the only explanation for why Sweden had such very bad luck several times. There is a god.
Does Sweden have a soccer team as well? ( whatever sport that is ). I know this Swedish football team won the bronze medal match at the recent football World Championships though.

What is "soccer" and "netball"??? I came here to watch the footballmatch between Germany and Sweden. After my country Danmark defeated Germany 2-0 in the new Nations League tournament. Olympic Qualification for Paris is at stake in that Tournament. The Danish women's football Team has not been at the Olympics since 1996 Atlanta. So that would be something.

I predict a lot of penalties against these teams. In men's W.C. VAR didn't allow any push in the penalty area. The least brush with the rival in the penalty area turned out in a penalty.*
Not sure they were prepared for how physical Germany was going to play. Plus they completely neutralized Sweden's forwards, something I wasn't sure was possible.

The only difference is than in the USA league they play fair and square. Fouling is frown upon in the USA league.*

What about Sweden learning to play like England or France? There are going 32 teams in NZ/AU. Before you get too comfortable with your idea of football style for all with the US the blueprint, don't forget, Germany can pass the ball and find the goal. 50% of the time. Nobody is "the best" in all games! In the Denmark-Germany Nations League 2-0 game, she did not "look good" at the second goal for Denmark. Just saying.
You have my vote. But don't stop there. Everyone watching this video must have noticed how calm and restrained the commentator was, a breath of fresh air after those rapid-fire teams of two who get paid by the syllable. But what a shame that the sound engineer totally blanked out the sounds from a very enthusiastic audience and only put the voice of the commentator on the video. The sounds from the crowds add ambiance and atmosphere, and taking that away diminishes the experience of us fans on this site.
@@ritasinkovec1693 Welll, this commentator was obviously a "neutral", meaning not from Sweden or Germany, so that makes it easier to not be emotionally involved. But I do agree, that many go over the top load, when commenting!
