A true legend. I never get tired of his music (the little rasti, Elijah, wild life) all fav's & so different in jazz form. His music has inspired me for many many years! LEGEND!❤️
He’s my 15 year old daughter’s favourite artist! ❤ he’s certainly not forgotten, documentary or not! Just played wind parade earlier today! ♥️Love from the UK!
Almost a year and no comments in this precious and informative interview with the great Dr. Byrd… I’ll be the first. Thank you for uploading this clip. For all his gargantuan accomplishments in music and in education, there remains precious little documentation of Dr. Byrd on TH-cam. This is a great thing you’ve done by uploading this. Thank you Tony.
Here's comment from me...I LOVE ME some DONALD BYRD, I am 44 yr old male down in South Africa 🇿🇦, 10 years ago,my best friend introduced me to DONALD BYRD'S UP album, the very first time I heard HOUSE OF RISING SUN I never looked back, that's the album that transitioned me from hip hop, noisy music to the soothing sounds of Jazz and I've never looked back...I didn't know anything about D-BYRD, particularly his erudition, but after seeing this video my respect for him shot through the roof...I'm going down the rabbit hole and going to learn more about him coz I just love the man.👊🏿✌🏿🇿🇦
❤❤❤ phenomenal musical genius!!! Fell in love with his music at an early age. My father played jazz throughout my years growing up. I continue to enjoy Donald Byrd as well as others who have since passed on.
I haven't forgotten at ALL! Jazz is a STAPLE around my home, and without QUESTION, I often find myself humming a tune by this brother! You can't even mention Blue Note records without speaking about Dr. Donald Byrd, just as you can't mention Columbia records without Miles Davis coming out of your mouth! I don't think life was long enough for Doanald Bryd to do all the things he wanted to do, but he sure did MANY of them, from his master penmanship of compositions, and playing, to his introduction of musicians and legendary selections of artists whom he chose, Donald Byrd will NEVER be FORGOTTEN! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿😁
My “History of Jazz” instructor my freshman year (1975) at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. I was blessed to get to travel with him, The Blackbyrds & a group that he started at “Central” called New Central Connection Unlimited (NCCU). My first cross country trip to California and my first foray to a professional sound studio (Sound Factory) was a direct result of me taking that “History of Jazz” class. What a heady time for an 18 year old country boy really away from home for the first time! Much love & many thanks for all the great memories and experiences! Rest well, my friend! 👍🏽🙏💪🏾🦅
for some lucky reason that little video snippet came up in my youtube "line" and .... YES, ONE OF THE MASTERS SPEAK ....... any more from that show, as it looks the show with D.BYRD would go on for a while. ?!
Guys is this thee DONALD BYRD...??as in the gentleman that trumpets the trumpet in that highly charged and melancholic HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN tune...??😳😳...this man had a PhD in Music...???
His music lives on in my house! Just played Places and Spaces the other day ❤
Another, genius of music 🎶
Donald Byrd will forever be one of my absolute favorites. Thanks for posting.
Definitely not forgotten in my household. Legend

Donald Byrd’s Ethiopian Knight is why I now love Jazz!
Fogotten legend...what you talking about?? His influence is felt all over. R.I.P. Maestro, a true master and genius.
The best
The creator of the Blackbyrds! His song Women of the World will always be with me as well as his use of the flute.
My favorite musical artist.
" lament", " nightflower", " royal flush", just a few, check out his catalogue.
