You may check your bulbs and grounds and see if your front running lights are also out. Sounds like it might be your switch, but hard to tell from here. You could take the switch out and look at the plug contacts to see if they got hot. I also could get mine to work by wiggling the switch around and turning it off and on many times and sometimes they would come on. Sounds like it is at least a problem with the switch or wiring to the switch.
Hi! So I just bought a 94 Silverado and the headlights turn on when I flick the bottom switch but my back lights don't work. The brake lights work. and the interior lights work. Just not the backlights and the dash lights. but the interiors turn on which i roll that little scroll thing on the left of the switches. Do i just need to replace the piece you got? and do u have a place you got urs and a link?
Probably the switch I replace in video. Sounds like same problem I had. You can get them at any auto parts store or online. Just search for headlight switch your 94 Silverado, Thanks for watching
Was it blowing fuses or just not working mine blows the fuse on gauges and park/running lights as soon as I flip the lights on you can tail it's lighting up the lights for a split second and then the fuses pops both at the same time
Do I need to replace my switch? Because the little wheel turns on the light on my floor board but not my dash lights I was thinking the bulb was bad but wanted to make sure
When you say the bulb might be bad are you referring to the dash lights. There are multiple bulbs in the dash so they would all have to be burnt out. I think it is more likely the top part of the switch that supplies power to the dash lights may be bad. That was the case when my dash lights would not come on. It was the top part of the switch that was bad but I also had no exterior running lights with my problem. The dimmer wheel is independent of your problem. The only way to really troubleshoot it is with a wire diagram of the dash lights and see if your getting power to them when the switch is turned on.
My best suggestion would be to get a wiring diagram for your year and model of truck and check powers and grounds. If the high beams work and lows, don't it could be a bad multifunction sw.
I would probably check the wiring from the switch to the instrument panel. Check to make sure you have all your powers and grounds. Use a test light to check instead of a meter.
i have no running tail lights only mr brake lights and turning signals work , i replaced the headlamp switch and still nothing , i need help any recommendations?
maybe you have 2 bad bulbs, you might plug in a trailer and see if the trailer has lights this would tell you the wiring is ok and must be in the taillight assemblies.
So.. My running lights and headlights work. Interior lights on the ceiling work as well. All my indicators and warning lights on the dash work, but all dimmable lights do not. Also my radio display cuts out when i turn on my headlights. Could this be related to the switch and/or ground cables being bad?
I'll see what I can find out when I get a chance to look at my truck. Did you jump 12v to the horn to make sure it works? found this video that may help you. check it out and let me know. Link th-cam.com/video/86NAyYANVkM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IIMAw8g8QtvO0BLd

No, Fuse was fine. Switch just had bad contacts inside. The connections in the plug where it plugs in to switch can also be damaged and have bad contact or shorting together there. You can usually see that because the plug looks like it is getting hot and discolored. If you have a fuse blowing, then you have a short to ground somewhere causing that which is even possible inside the switch itself. If you unplug the switch and the fuse still blows then you have a short in the wires going from the fuse to the plug that plugs into the switch assembly.
i know this is unrelated to the video,,, but i have a problem... those TWO electrical connectors that go on top of the fuel injectors have no power going to them,, so its not spitting fuel.. and im wondering if theres a fuse for it?,,,.. 1993 chevy silverado
Check fuse ecm-1(mini fuse) 20A In the underhood Fuse/Relay center. It should have 12v when the key is in run or start. The wires on the 2 fuel injectors are pink or red and get their power from that fuse. That's all I know. good luck.
..I have a different, but related question..maybe someone knows the answer..the dash lights, dome light, headlights, signals, brake lights, etc. are all working as they should(knock on wood)..but..the headlight switch is NOT backlit when the lights/instrument panel lights are on(when switch is on)..in fact, it is never backlit, never has been since I have owned the truck(about a year)..this isn't an issue in the day, but you have to fumble for the switch at night...question is, is the switch SUPPOSED to be backlit, or not?..if not, seems like a design oversight...
(1993 Chevy silverado) I have a problem where the drl lights work but the headlights dont. I switched the headlight switch for a new one and it work for a few weeks and now I'm back to no headlights and just drl lights. Anyone found what causes this?

I will see if I can find out later when I can look at my wiring diag in my service manual.
Check fuse ecm-1(mini fuse) 20A In the underhood Fuse/Relay center. It should have 12v when the key is in run or start. The wires on the 2 fuel injectors are pink or red and get their power from that fuse. That's all I know. good luck.
@@mikesworld60 got the truck going,,, thanks,, found a burnt fuse underneath the steering wheel area.
..I have a different, but related question..maybe someone knows the answer..the dash lights, dome light, headlights, signals, brake lights, etc. are all working as they should(knock on wood)..but..the headlight switch is NOT backlit when the lights/instrument panel lights are on(when switch is on)..in fact, it is never backlit, never has been since I have owned the truck(about a year)..this isn't an issue in the day, but you have to fumble for the switch at night...question is, is the switch SUPPOSED to be backlit, or not?..if not, seems like a design oversight...
Sorry for the long reply time, I just check mine and it doesn't have a backlite for it.
@@mikesworld60 ..Hmm..thanks..that's what I was afraid of :(...a headlight switch really should have a backlight..eliminates fumbling for it...
@@dyer2cycle I agree, the switches on the door for the power door locks and electric window need them too. It is hard to find them in the dark.
Omg wow very very helpful!! Thanks
Glad you found it helpful.
(1993 Chevy silverado) I have a problem where the drl lights work but the headlights dont. I switched the headlight switch for a new one and it work for a few weeks and now I'm back to no headlights and just drl lights. Anyone found what causes this?
Hopefully someone out there has and idea. Thanks for watching!
@@mikesworld60 no problem!
What’s the part called???
Multi-Function Switch
I have dash and interior lights and had replaced the switch a few months ago because the headlights flickering off and on going down the road. Also the radio wouldn't play. I took everything apart and did nothing because I needed to use the truck and the radio and interior lights started working and I repeat I didn't fix anything to make it happen. Now headlights and taillights don't work but brake lights and blinkers do. I can't win this race😂
Sounds like my kind of experience
I have running lights horn and everything just no gauge lights
you may have a burnt wire or bad connection on the back of the light switch. I would pop out the switch and check all the wires on the back of the switch first.
I have good ground know I have to check if it’s the switch hopefully 🙏
Thanks for watching hope it helps
I replaced my Light Switch. Now at least my turn signal is working normal and the gauge finally shows when I turn on the brights. But beside that when I turn the key all lights I have are Battery Light and Glow Plug Light. All the other warning lights are not working
i would check for loose connections in display, burnt out bulbs maybe.
@@mikesworld60 I replaced the Tachometer with a Canadian one. Also send it in to check if all the Bulbs are working and to apply the mileage from the old Tachometer to the Canadian one. Its easier for me to read kph than Miles. I remember that the lights already worked sporadically when the mph Tachometer was in. So I dont think the Problem is in the Tachometer. Im gonna let someone check on that Problem here in Germany who has 30 years of expierence with US Cars. Maybe he finds the Problem.
Mine was a switch too. Damn chevy's... lol Ty
Right. Can't trust those 30 year old parts!! 🙂
@@daddi-o2443 man I sold it, put that into my wrecker to run, and now I need emission parts.. And can't find them.. :-(
Gracias por la información
...1993 Silverado..I assume this is the same for the Cheyenne, Scottsdale, and W/T models as well?...the GMT 400 trucks and earlier were not all "Silverados"...that nonsense came about with the GMT 800 trucks...
good to know
Help. My dashboard lights on my chevy don't turn on. Same as taillights. Could it be a fuse ?
Sorry not enough info to help you. You may want to read though the comments and see if that helps. Thanks for stopping by.
@@mikesworld60 update. It's just my parking(running) lights and dash board that aren't working. I just swamped out the switch. 😑

Did that solve your problem?
@@gera2396 unfortunately no. Looks like there is a ground issue on mine. Cause it kept blowing the fuses as soon as i put them in they would burn. I have to wait till I find an electrician/mechanic.
Nothing simple about any electronic problem especially anything to do with instrument panel
I got a similar problem except that the dash lights only work sometimes unless I give it a little tap, do you know what can be the problem to that? Also, would you know what could be the problem with my A/C it worked fine but all of a sudden the A/C dash is frozen to one setting and none of the buttons work for it?🥲
Before I replaced the switch my dash lights would sometimes work and sometimes not. I had to turn the top part of the switch on and off many times before they would come on. The switch was intermittent. Not sure about the other problem but sounds like your maybe missing some power to the a controls. Not really sure on that, hard to troubleshoot without the vehicle. I think there are a couple of fuses for the ac. One box in engine compartment on my 93 and a fuse panel inside to the left of steering column near parking brake release. I would get a wiring diagram and check powers and grounds for the ac.
@@mikesworld60 appreciate the reply I’ll be looking into those fuses, thank you!
Loose connectors maybe
