Great teaching vid. Lov the camera work. I hav tried to learn from other folks teachings but watched yours and is so ezy that I carved my bear the first time out. Bring on more small videos.
Your right about the details. You can get into what your doing, then a few hours go bye and you didn't even realize it. When I took that class, he said try to do as much as you can with the saw. As soon as you grab power tools you start losing money because you will detail for hours. I know what he means now that i started carving. Sometimes you just have to call it done and move on to the next carve. I like how you just use simple saw marks to finish him up and it looks great!
I just did this one today. It turned out looking pretty nice and I'm hoping that I can do the same with this carving that I can with the pumpkins that I've been making.
Thanks for the videos. Learning a lot from you. I’m new to carving. I have a Stihl ms170 and just received a Cannon 12” dime bar and 1/4” sprocket for it. The chain supplied is an Oregon 25f full house chain. You have an thoughts or experience using this full house chain? I guess I was expecting some what of a standard link chain would have been provided? Also, any thoughts on using Canola oil vs standard bar and chain oil? Thanks again!
I’m not Kyle but my 170 didn’t have enough power to pull the full house Oregon chain. I’m putting my 12” dime bar on a ms250 and I run the bar and chain from my msa120 on the 170 and it works great. The canola oil was one of the best moves I made way cleaner and it lubes the bar fine. Hope that helps
@@gravelcreekfarms3850 Thanks for the info. Going to try out the full house tomorrow just to see. There are a heck of a lot of teeth on that chain! Thanks again...take care.
Hey Kyle. Hope you don't mind me asking. Just came across this video and It appears you're using the MSA 200? C-b? Looks like it has good torque for the small to medium carvings?

How (loose) to tension the chain on a carving, tipped/ detail bar?
Solid nose detail bar like the dime tip . You want to fit a number 2 pencil where the chain sags . I will do a video short and show this tonight
@@KyleHallwoodworker super, thank you.

It is. It's great for small stuff and detail work on larger pieces
Cool thanks.
