    For anyone curious, Aasimar can have weird features like their blood is pure light, they radiate light passively, feathers instead of hair, radiate warmth, flight, their footsteps can radiate light or glitter... Yeah, they are extra as fuck.

    I see an Aasimar being treated kind of like Aang from The Last Airbender when he was growing up in the air temple. Once people found out who he was, the other kids treated him differently. Like the whole "You're the Avatar, letting you play with us wouldn't be fair" thing

      It would depend on the subclass as well as your roleplay for instance a fallen aasimar maybe shunned by society for accidently rotting fleash and or releasing their skeletal angel form in public or might be worshiped by like necromancers or an evil cult protector aasimar might be like you said scourge aasimar are known for being born by a god of wars touch so maybe they would be a great military leader or leader of a barbarian village something where they would gain fame and power through combat for good or evil which ever way your character or npc leans

    Forgot to mention something about the Scourge Aasimar. Radiant Consumption includes yourself for the damage. (That's why it increases con, to offset the first turn of this damage)

    • @dragonrider1817

      I believe they also get the extra radiant damage that protector Aasimar get.

      Aasimar are cooler than you may think! For those who became Tiefling and play them as good guys might want to know how much ability wise Aasimar are to the Tiefling race. They can be what you want due to the 4 separate subclasses, without being connected to a demon or devils. They can have plot lines both entertaining and interesting!

  • @burtgummer7282
    @burtgummer7282 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    One correction that I feel is necessary to point out, the subrace abilities are only available once you hit third level, not at first.

    Was part of a campaign once where a mixed group was escaping a prison that was being destroyed by an invading neighboring country who were employing fallen paladins. Some of us were political prisoners or had been imprisoned under false pretenses. My character was an Aasimar Cleric that was thrown in with this group. Some of the characters were evil aligned, but we actually found that they were _drawn_ to the Aasimar cleric as he always tried his best to redeem them rather than judge and smite, was kind and accepting (as long as they never crossed horrible lines in front of him or he discovered their misdeeds), and he was "useful" for healing and protection. Only played a few sessions, but it was very interesting and fun.

      Nothing they say is from the Dungeon Master's Guide though (pg 286 - 287). In fact just about everything they say contradicts the DM's Guide.

      Adrian Parker, it's a DM's Guide, not the DM's Rules :)

    • @AdrianLParker
      @AdrianLParker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So at the beginning they should start with, "We entirely made this race up, it's not related to any race you'll find in the DM's guide except by name". Listen to the video, they never say, "We believe...", in fact they open the video by one guy asking the other to define Aasimar, and then says he'll correct him where he's wrong. If they are not going by standardized rules (and they aren't), how can he correct another person.

    Really enjoyed this video. Aaisimar and Tieflings should be a tad more powerful than other classes because the are going to get extra hostile attention from their celestial or infernal enemies. It's up to a good DM to make them pay the price for it. You could even make it that both the forces of heaven and hell view them as abominations so they get it from both sides. I very much wish that the Genasi in 5E were a little more like Aasimar and Tieflings since they are planetouched too.

    • @christopherbravo1813
      @christopherbravo1813 ปีที่แล้ว

      why would Hell care about who's an abomination and why would Heaven view their own servants with disgust?

    Very important correction on the subrace transformations:
    1. The "Additional damage equal to your level" only applies to one attack per turn.
    2. Scourge Aasimar also suffers damage from Radiant Consumption, though it is halfed by their resistance.
    3. None of the subrace transformations are accessible before 3rd level.

    Often times it is the simpler things that matter most, and kindness, compassion and generosity can touch people in ways that some great display of power cannot. It allows the common people to see a person who is good, kind and caring, despite the turmoils of life that allows them to see that they can be kind and good too. And as this simple display of kindness and compassion spreads, the forces of good can gain a foothold in an otherwise harsh and cynical world. Never doubt the power of the simple Aasmire adventurer.

    I am playing a Tiefling Warlock. I am travelling with 2 Paladins, one of which is an Aasimar. (also two half elves but whatever). And I have to say. Yes. I really like the conversations between my tiefling warlock (Pact of the Chain - Fiend - Archdemon; who doesn't like Paladins at all) and especially the Aasimar (Who trys to rid the earth of the evil influence of the abyss by killing demons and necromancers) xD Also I still have him convinced that I am a normal sorcerer with a quasit familiar for no more reason then to study it :DDD

  • @straydog3799

    I know this is d&d, but my group tends to also pull stuff from multiple settings and systems. One thing we like is how Pathfinder handles Aasimar and Tieflings. Like you said, if they have a conversation, they end up getting along. In fact, because of their societal expectations, they usually end up bonding to the point of becoming best friends or even lovers.

    I have created a game for my friends with an adventuring guild being ran by a Bronze and Copper dragon "couple" male Bronze and female Copper. They take the humanoid form of an Aasimar and Tiefling. She is very mischievous and enjoys making jokes with the PC's while the Aasimar is more aloof and soft spoken. The bronze deals with the bigger picture things to do with the guild, meetings with politicians and local nobility. While the copper is much more social and enjoys running the day to day operations.
    The guild is titled the Bronze Guardians, and it's based on a Bronze Dragon that once defended the city from a great siege. The dragons haven't revealed themselves to the PC's yet. And I don't intend to have them reveal unless either by accident, the players figure it out or if some great big bad thing is about to happen to the players I may use them as an ex machina function to rescue them at the last minute.
    My choosing for the Aasimar and Tiefling was purposeful to represent that the guild is very much Neutral in most affairs, it's primary function is protection. It accepts contract of course to keep the guild members battle ready, sending them off in search of lost artefacts, escorting important dignitaries through dangerous lands, clearing our evil incursions on civilisations near by. But they do see it as part of their civic duties to be seen as guardians of the city when they are needed.
    I like the idea of them being retired adventurers themselves, that they were adventuring around the same times as some of the great heroes from history. Many who may still be around, if not retired or leading members of the community, councils, guild halls of their own.

    For the fallen variant, I believe the added strength is to signify that they are physically stronger than the other variants. That's what I believe everytime there's a plus or minus to a stat. That they are X smarter, stronger, faster, ect.

    Their features are VERY op, but i would think they wouldnt use it to use it unless really needed. If they activate it there is no going back. Your party knows your angelic, any witnesses needed. The character i maded added deception and a disguise kit to skill set which he would use to hide his heritage from allies.

    Any other aasimar players, play for power? Such as, my aasimar is trying to slowly, and carefully, "take over" my DM's world, or at least Ferun.
    I'm seeing a pattern with other aasimar player, who do similar things. Most common, is they try to become the shot callers in the group. Make themselves the leader, of sorts.

      Except mine, who's just basically the party tank and spends most campaigns standing back and playing bodyguard. He only ever talks when it's something that concerns him but will shout at other companions if they try to do something stupid in public. He recently got made a viscount and he's still in shock. So now he's a fallen Aasimar viscount who is also the party's accountant...He only signed up to help people

      I did an Aasimar in a one-shot not long ago who was essentially the group's mediator. Like he didn't call the shots, but his opinion was highly valued, and he was an important member of social interactions along with the Rogue.

  • @weedhigh2564
    @weedhigh2564 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I took my aasimar in the scourge path of the beast barbarian way and made him a god that got split in 2 parts and fallen, one part incarnated in somebody scarring his whole body as a newborn turning his skin dark and had really bright red glowing veins, and the other became an intangible bear which only i can see (up to this point at least) and can only interact with things that contain alcohol, which he drinks alot and is the only thing he can basically interact with, so he is always grumpy and drunk (if possible, if not he is even more grumpy). I love this character, deeply and its still early in the campaign. He is so cool, he is kinda broody but has a good sense of humor and is somehow immune to insults directed at him personally, but gets serious quickly if someone talks shit about the knights he is part of or about his party, as well as he cannot stand liars wizards and cannot abide injustice, if something he percieves as unjust is happening in his vicinity he tries to even out the scales with his presence as well as with the help of the party which are all just as scary as him if not more (yeah, we have a peace cleric, even im scared of her and im pretty sure our half orc fighter is scared of her as well, i know my bear counterpart is scared to death of her)

    2 ideas for an aasimar.
    A celestial warlock who got wings as a boon
    A demigod who killed his monster at like 7 by dropping a rock on its head, and has to live with the fact that he no longer has a purpose for life, and is adventuring to fill that hole made from his creation and relatively short term purpose

    Fallen Assimar Pact of the Fathomless Warlock. I started as a variant human for early buffs, but the longer I’ve dealt with the voices of Davy Jones in my head the more corrupt my soul gets. By now my pores leak necrotic black fluids and smoke. And I’m nervous and paranoid all the time.

  • @blackzen3306
    @blackzen3306 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’ve been working on a character concept for a Draconic Angel:
    Assimar Radiant Soul/Draconic Sorc/Vengeance Paladin/Celestial Warlock.
    I know there’s some overlap, but I thought it would be a cool concept for a character with Draconic and Celestial heritage.
    I’m lvl 7 and I can fly once daily for 1 minute, add radiant damage, I have a breath weapon for any element I choose, and I can bestow that ability to anyone I choose as long as I have the spell slots or sorcery points. I also have Green flame blade and Eldritch blast.
    In 2 lvls I get an extra attack and eventually I’ll be able to fly indefinitely as a lvl 14 Draconic Sorcerer.
    1 lvl Celestial Warlock
    5 lvl Vengeance or Conquest Paladin
    14 Draconic Sorcerer
    I’m thinking of a backstory involving his forefather, a Gold Dragon and his foremother a Solar Angel.
    Any and all thoughts welcome.

    I'm making a Scourge Aasimar who will be Paladin/Sorcerer. I can totally see a reason to get that +1 STR for this build, as we are not rolling for stats. So going from 15 STR to 16 STR at the start would be nice. But I'll pick that up with a future ASI bump instead.
    I'm curious to see how my DM will roll my patron, I hope that I'm compelled to do somethings that might not be perfect for the task and agenda at hand. And will aid him in getting us to the next story hook.

    Aasimar are few in number and when two meet they will often side with each other regardless of other alignments if only to feel a trace of kinship. If I ever DM, I'm going to require that my first ever campaign is going to require that all characters be this race partially to be silly but also because of a good story.

    I would kinda mix the being sent and biological thing by having the first in their line be one who was sent but they are capable of breeding to create more of their kind. Tho, one could have it so that their true nature as an Asimar only comes out after something like a selfless act or a sacrefice that would please the divine.
    Also what would happen if an Aasimar and a Tiefling had a kid?

    I know this is 3 years out but I just wanted to explain my Aasimar. His name is Perril and he's a 9 yo mute fallen Aasimar Echo Knight( yes dm gave permission, yes party is OK with him being so young) set in the Dm's homebrew world of Titanea where there are only 5 Aasimar every cycle (2 scourge, 2 protector and a Fallen so he's already pretty special the protectors are spawn of the truely good gods and the Scourge are offspring of the Dark gods.) Now this isn't to say he's all alone as he has his sister the stronger of the 2 protector Aasimar and he has his party ( a pixie woman who acts as the party mom, a fiery shifter woman, a hulking warforged and his shoulder mounted Mousefolk companion who are like his family) he's still mute so he can't verbally communicate other than telekinesis once a day. Otherwise he's the epicenter of a massive power struggle and war of darkness and light

    I love the Aasimar but they are not as broken as I think you think it is. The nova power are one minute and once a long rest (aka day) so just have more the. On battle where you need them or have the bad guy run away and they can naturally expire. The protector extra damage would be on attack on one target a turn(my reading) Surge damage hits you and your allies and everyone so that generally sucks and while the fear on them is great unlike elves, they are vulnerable while sleeping (a full 8 hours mind you), sleep spells and charms. I would say the fallen are to most dangerous but they are likely to more often then not be an evil character. The powers you get at lvl 3 are just effective there to level 7 and become a fun compliment after are players get magic that often can in the course of the day trump these powers. Just my HO.

    I am making a Scourge Zealot Barbarian so I came back to watch this episode to freshen up my Aasimar lore. I will make them Burn with the power of my god. Also I didn't think about this until just now but my god at level 14 I will be so fucking broken, unkillable unless something knocks me out of rage and doing a bonus 1d6 +28 if I hit something with Divine fury and end my turn next to them. Fuck now I feel like a munchkin. Oh well going to do it anyway, I wanna burn them with my anger for my god. Plus it won't happen until it's time to fight high teir shit anyway.

    Edit: this is a long d&d story, just FYI.
    (Homebrew, bear with me.) Played a winged half-elven aasimar (divine blood, not sent by god) fighter, with a two handed sword, plate armor, and a golden hooded cloak, under which he hid his wings, named Saldron Brightflame. He was chaotic good, with an oddly dark sense of humor. Though for him, laughter was a rarity.
    He was raised in a temple orphanage in a nearby human kingdom because, after his aasimar mother died, his human adventurer father didn't think he could raise him. He wanted to be good, but learned harsh lessons about life early on. The children at the orphanage, welcoming at first, gradually came to resent him for how he received special treatment. He had a few friends, but was excluded and ostracized by most.
    When he turned 15, an army from a neighboring kingdom destroyed the town, killing everyone he knew. He gathered what supplies and equipment he could, and set out to kill the king whose ambitions robbed him of his few, precious friends.
    He soon arrived at the capital of the kingdom where he was raised, which he had heard was under siege, however, he discovered the battle was over, and the king who ruined his life was now king of both kingdoms. It was there he abandoned his lawful ways. Allying himself with a tiefling warlock, something he would never have done before, they cut a bloody swath through the city. Being careful to spill no innocent blood, he fought his way in, took the head of that king, and flew from the city. Leaving his new tiefling friend behind.
    Wandering aimlessly for many years, he found love, and having a family gave him purpose once more. Until word of the "angel" and his family reached the followers of a dark god, and his wife and children were sacrificed and put on display at his family home for him to find. Now bitter and full of rage, he slaughtered every man and woman (in that sect anyway) who followed that god. Though in the end he still couldn't bring himself to kill the children, even the tieflings, whom he brought to an orphanage much like the one he grew up in.
    He then decided to hide his heritage, and father no more children, so no one else would be killed because of what he was. He hid his wings, and became an adventurer (and an alcoholic). Where he met the party at a tavern in a land far away from his once homeland.
    He went on to save the world twice, beat alcoholism, come to terms with his losses, and find love once more with an Elven sorceress party member who knew he was an aasimar, (over the course of 3 seperate campaigns with same party in same universe) he managed to stay hidden for years, before finally revealing his divinity, and sacrificing himself, at the end of the 3rd campaign. While saving the lives of the other party members, he killed the same dark god whose followers killed his family, dying in the process.
    Was a pretty dope character, who died in a fitting way. Still thankful to the dm for making his backstory fit into the main story like that. My favorite d&d campaign to this day.

    @3:33 The Dungeon Master's Guide documents the Aasimar on pages 286 - 287. Almost everything your video either contradicts what the DM's Guide says, or you've made up stuff not found in the DM's Guide. The DM's guide does not say that Aasimar are sent into the world. It does not say they have a destiny, pre-ordained path, etc. Further, it DOES say you have angelic biology in your DNA, it does not say anything about a piece of heaven being forged into your soul. The DMG's guide says, "aasimar are descendants of celestial beings." See page 286. What are you reading that I'm not? You start the video by saying you'll correct the other fellow, but in the first 4.5 minutes you've contradicted the DM's Guide on every point. I'm now 7 minutes into the video, and everything you have said is made up. Nothing you've said is in the DMs guild. The DMs guide doesn't say anything about wings, and that would be a pretty big unbalancing feature. The DMs guide doesn't say anything about their births being hailed as blessed events. What the DMs guide does say is that they often try to pass for humans, not drawing attention to their heritage. It also does not mention other-worldliness. The DMs guide only says, "generally appear as glorious humans with lustrous hair, flawless skin, and piercing eyes". Have you even read the Dungeon Master's Guide entry for Aasimar?

      Most of all this info is in Volo's guide to Monsters which is the Official and Final 5e version of Aasimar. The version in the DMG is a prototype based off of what Aasimar were normally like previous to 5e. I like both these versions. I thought I talked about both the DMG and Volos guide versions in this episode, but maybe I wasn't clear. it has been awhile since I recorded this episode and don't entirely remember.
      "Aasimar are placed in the world to serve as guardians
      of law and good. Their patrons expect them to strike at
      evil, lead by example, and further the cause of justice.
      From an early age, an aasimar receives visions and
      guidance from celestial entities via dreams. These
      dreams help shape an aasimar, granting a sense of destiny
      and a desire for righteousness." VGtM pg 104

      The Dungeoncast so what you talk about in the video is very specific to a single campaign setting (Forgotten Realms)

      It is an unfortunate side effect of 5e and all 5e books being default set in FR. But the stats of the offical Aasimar Race are transferable to all settings. Also, I think in the later half of the episode I explain that there is a DMG test version of Aasimar that mirrors the Tiefling.

    Fallen Aasimar edge lords have ruined this race for me, I rarely allow it in my games because it’s so dang broken to boot. If it’s a dealbreaker for a player I’ll allow it but with some pretty major tweaks. Dropping one of those resistances and some of the spells being the first and foremost.

    You said Aasimar are the yin to the Tieflin’s yang, but that’s factually incorrect. Yin is actually the black, and yang is the white. Aasimar are inherently the yang the Tiefling’s yin.
