Thank you for making and sharing this instructional video. You are taking away the fear from these mechanical tasks - by simply showing what to do and what to avoid, step by step. Have some quality time 'between the years' as we call this part of the year in german, greetings from deep winter in Austria.
Thanks a bunch for this. Just had your vid playing - stop, start, replay - to help me change an inner tube for the first time on my Brompton e-bike. I included the post work trial run up and down our street in Brum. Trickiest thing was removing the wheel nut covers! Compared to you though the whole job took about an hour. Found a large piece of glass had made a sizeable tear in the Schwalbe Marathon so had to replace the tyre as well as the tube.
Thank you very much for this video: I couldn't find how to disconnect the motor from the front wheel to put on a continental contact urban tire. I got the answer in this tutorial.
By way of update, for the mechanically illiterate (of which I am one) I would commend clarity that the Torque wrench is only applied to one nut - as the Wheel Clip interferes with use of any substantive socket set. Excellent vid (as always). Very helpful. Who carries a 15 mm spanner? Looks like I will going forward....
Thanks! Just what I was looking for. Not sure how to deal with the torque requirement when far from home or shop though? Watching the tire pumping effort was helpful too. Maybe we need to find a small electric pump that can be powered by USB connection and put that big battery to additional use...?
Thanks for your kind comments comment Re: torque - make sure it’s tight so it won’t come off but not so tight as to strip and threads The usb powered pump sounds like a great idea 👍
1:34 it would be helpful if you mentioned that of the three silver turning bands only the bottom one unlocks. The top two don’t move. I spent several minutes with pliers on the three bands working against pliers on the black rubber fitting and damaging both.
Thank you for another informative video! I have a question. If you can only rotate the cable clockwise to orient it before replacing the wheel in the fork, does it follow that the Brompton electric’s front wheel will not roll backwards when installed? (Can the bike be freely rolled backwards without the front electric wheel dragging on the ground?)
On an associated topic. When the motors inevitably reach the end of their viable lives, can you envisage Brompton offering a "whole wheel" trade-in to meet their recycling targets ?
I was wondering what torque wrench you're using. I'm looking into buying one, but I couldn't find any to cover the Brompton range from 2-30 Nm. thanks.
Again another brilliant video. I recently test rode a Brompton M2LD here in Braunschweig/ Germany it was great fun for the 30 minutes I had it. Unfortunately no hills to do the ultimate test. I have a couple of questions, do the lights work if the battery is detatched? The next question is the one reason that’s holding me back from buying one. These bikes including extras cost up to €3500 what do you lock them up with when you are not commuting between home and work ie.shopping, sightseeing etc. I’ve never owned so an expensive bike. What do you recommend. The bikes must be good because my local dealer has given me a 10 week waiting time for purchasing a new one. Keep up the good work.
Hi - thanks for watching All we did to clean it was to remove the wheel and wipe down with a damp cloth - so far that has always worked We would not necessarily recommend some of the riding we did (we went through the field / wood to avoid a flood which was deeper than the height of the wheel)
Many thanks for the question! We thought it was a really good one and made a video on it a little while ago. Link as follows: th-cam.com/video/XdkDIPaA9P4/w-d-xo.html Thank you so much for watching!
Great videos on your channel! I was wondering something. Since the battery is in the bag and can be easily detached (right?). Could you, by replacing the front motorized wheel with a normal (non electric) wheel, effectively switch between an eletric Brompton and a normal Brompton? Since the motor is not in the crank I would think that with a normal wheel it would pedal exactly like a normal Brompton, resistance wise? And then when you want you can make it electric or am I missing something here? Thanks!
I can confirm what Ken Twydell said. On the occasions when my battery has run out (longer ride than intended LOL), my electric Brompton is no harder to pedal than my non-electric - in fact, it's a bit easier because the 6-speed electric Brompton has better gearing than my 3-speed non-electric.
Thanks for watching It’s the cable / axle which can only rotate one way (when lining up for re-installing) The wheel can roll backwards - but there is a lot of resistance from the motor
If you mean on your electric Brompton, I'd contact your dealer or Brompton directly - if you mean replacing the front wheel on a standard Brompton with an electric one, I don't think that's an option with Brompton themselves; you'd probably have to look into one of the third-party conversion kits.
Thank you - this video took all the fear out of the task for me when I needed to take the wheel off to change the inner tube.
Glad it helped and thanks for letting us know
Thanks for watching and taking the time to give us feedback

Wow! Sounds like a proper urban puncture. So glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Another BRILLIANTy clear video that makes it look almost easy... I feel myself inching closer to the cliff of an electric Brompton! 😬

So glad it helped! Phew and the Continentals re pretty cool!
Thanks for watching!
Great video
I recently got a puncture, so happy I could easily remove the wheel.
could you do avid for the rear wheel
Thanks

Thank you!
Great video as always, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Another veeeeery helpful video! Thank you so much!! And I love your take outs :D
Thanks for watching and your kind comments
Happy New Year - Stay safe!
I learn more and more by watching your video. Thank you kindly and very much appreciated for sharing your video

Re: torque - make sure it’s tight so it won’t come off but not so tight as to strip and threads
The usb powered pump sounds like a great idea 👍
@@brilliantbikes In other words, the same way most of us have refitted wheels since time immemorial LOL.
Thank you so much for this video. You saved the day :)
We are so glad it helped! Thank you for watching.
Great video. You did an awesome job as always and I look forward to your future videos.
Thanks again for your kind comment
We look forwards to making them 😀
Are these tools within the Brompton toolkit that goes in the bike’s tube? -
1:34 it would be helpful if you mentioned that of the three silver turning bands only the bottom one unlocks. The top two don’t move.
I spent several minutes with pliers on the three bands working against pliers on the black rubber fitting and damaging both.
We showed the close up of undoing it for this reason 😀
Excellent video!
Just catching up. Thanks so much

The wheel will roll back way with some resistance. Thanks for the question and for watching!

The lights work off the drive battery so no. Lock it up? Never!
Hi would b quite interested in how you clean the front hub after cross country adventures, especially without getting it too wet.

brilliantbikes thanks! Useful information!
Can you replace the electric wheel with a standard wheel, if you're not using the motor at some point and want to save weight?
Many thanks for the question! We thought it was a really good one and made a video on it a little while ago. Link as follows:

@@brilliantbikes fantastic! Thank you so much.
Any idea what is the nut size on the front wheel of the brompton electric? Is it the same as the rear nuts for the BWR 3/6 speeds?
The e-Brompton must be quite a joyride if this demo 'must' include a test ride. 😀
Thanks for watching
They are fun!

The motor is not engaged unless being powered. It freewheels like a 'normal' Brompton wheel so no need for your idea.

@@frankhooper7871 Thanks for the replies both!
When you say the wheel can only be rotated one way does that mean the bike can't be pushed backwards when the wheel's attached? Hope that makes sense!
Thanks for watching
It’s the cable / axle which can only rotate one way (when lining up for re-installing)
The wheel can roll backwards - but there is a lot of resistance from the motor
@@brilliantbikes Oh, so it's normal that the wheel gets sluggish when rolling it backwards then?
anyway i can replace my front wheel hub with electric brompton hub and where could i buy one?
