Kolam is a part of Indian culture. Everyday morning as soon they wake up, people draw kolam in front of their house . Kolam is also called as muggulu , rangoli etc. People draw different coloured kolams and rangoli designs according to different festivals (deebam kolam for Diwali, pot kolam for pongal etc.,)This is followed from ancient times and this is passed on from generation to generation. There are different types of kolam like rangoli, dots kolam, sikku kolam, pulli kolam etc., During ancient times, people draw kolam in rice flour on the floor so that it would be a food for ants and other small creatures. People draw kolam in front of their house to spread positivity.
