@fastj1962 Agreed, I remember Chad when he was younger, and even now, the guy is fucking insane. I mean he started the inline 'double push' back in like 1994 when he was still a kid, and he spots Sven like a decade in age.
@speedskate2010 Chad was so much slower than Sven, that Sven actually passed by him and skated a round ahead of him. Because they change lanes every round, they ended up in the same lane.
that kid has won 3 world titels and has been undefeated for up to 30 games or so. at the end of his career i guess he wil be one of the greatest skaters ever. don't forget how small our little country is, the greater is the achievement with soccer, skating, hockey, volleyball etc..
@Woutah2dmaX No, the reporter had Kramer identify himself on camera immediately prior to her interview with him so that peoduction editors could easily identify him later on...
I once watched Pete Rose go 0-5 with four strikeouts and two errors in the field. I once watched Peyton Manning throw more interceptions for touchdowns than tds to his own Colt teammates. But despite these bad days, do these two athletes measure among the best who have ever played? Of course. As a speedskater who moved to inlines, I will testify that Chad is one of the greatest to ever lace them up. Humiliation is kind of a strong and value heavy word, and only Chad knows....
Sven is obviously the best ever at 10K and I really feel for him today, but he and Hedrick now have a DQ int the 10K at major events. Hedrick made the same mistake in the World Championships in Calgary in 2006...It happens...
jfrcks, neah, "rude" is not the best word to describe the Dutch, but for "arrogant" they can be safely used as the best example to describe the meaning of the word.
In Holland, if we don't know a sport that well, we usually introduce the candidates for medals, by airing a short documentary before the event, so people know who and what they are watching and there is no need for such an introduction afterwards. So it was all a big misunderstanding that led to some funny television. I really don't understand what all the fuss is about
10 km: Sven Kramer 5 km: Sven Kramer 1500m: Shani Davis 1000: Shani Davis 500: Jeremy Wotherspoon Team Pursuit: Netherlands thats the way its gonna be, Kramer and Davis are unbeatable on 'their' distances, i reckon. 500m is a tough one, but i think Wotherspoon will be in top form just in time again. as for the team pursuit: there is no country in the world that can select 3 better skaters in this event than Netherlands. im guessing Kramer, Verheijen and Wennemars will bring home the gold!!!
@teemuruskeepaa rude? he was extremely professional! He skated excellent, Olympic record, was winning.. and his coach sadly messed up, he got DQ.. that's terrible.. and I think its just normal that you're angry.. and then he is nice, talks to the press, still trusts his coach and they get on well..that's a real champion!
So true! and me as a proud Dutchman will never forget Sven in 2010 on the 10.000 meters :( ... But we are doing great in Korea now ! 6 out of 7 races for Gold we have won sofar! ;-)
Chad Hedrick brought a lot to the sport, as did Derek Parra, K.C. Boutiette, shani Davis (who has a huge Dutch fanbase) and quite a few others (ladies as well). I remember the older Dutch coaches criticising their unusual technique, mainly brought from inline skating and (Davis) shorttrack. Chad and Shani seriously kicked ass in the years they were preparing for the 2006 Olympics and the year after that. the Dutch scratched their heads and had to adapt, trying to learn techniques that enabled them to accellerate in corners instead of using corners as a moment of maintaining speed gained on the straights. This 2008 race was inevitable, as Chad Hedrick was losing interest in the ice and Sven Kramer was becoming the next big thing in skating. Chad had his Olympic medals and for him it was probably time to move on. Fortunately for us Shani and some other US speedskaters stayed true to the sport and gave some fierce competition. It took Sven Kramer a very long time to overtake the Americans on the Adelskalenderen. I think that the American influence was a well needed push of the envelope in our sport and for that and more Chad deserves tonnes of respect from the fans of the sport.
And the US will get 37 today ( gold or silver for the hockey being played now ) so that 37 will be a new record total for any country in medals at any Winter Olympics.Congrats to Canada on their 13 gold medals after not getting any at the Montreal and Calgary games.
@fastj1962 your comment just prooves how little you know about what happend. I bet you didn't seen any interviews after and such? Sven knows the rules or he wouldnt be number 1 with all his medals he won last few years. His coach saw it wrong and told him to go in, the way he was pointing and all made it for Sven look like he was wrong and trusted his coach. Nothing stupid or rookie about it just a honest misstake by his coach.
You are right that Lee was close, but he had a big advantage on the bad ice (he is small and light and Sven big and heavier) But still Lee was a big surprise
dude, Kramer's world record on the 10.000m is 12:41,69. the 5 quickest 10km ever are all by Kramer. even Holland's Bob de Jong has been faster than Hedrick's top time: 12:54,97. i'll agree, hedrick is an ok skater, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking Kramer is not the best at this point (and probably will be for a very long time)
Any race under 13 minutes on 10 km is excellent in my book. To add some perspective though, 13:10 minutes would have sufficed to lap Hedrick. Hedrick's performance was substandard that day, for whatever reason.
Chad is the father of double push technique and won as many titles as he wanted in inline speed skating. Unfortunately it´s impossible to double push on ice :(
Lee did an outstanding 5k in Vancouver, no discussion. But let's see if he can do it again. There is the difference. Sven Kramer has 3 (three) consecutive world titles. Someone said he is no superman. I'd say he comes very close. "No competition" is a ridiculous argument.. how many different countries are on top in the skiing events?
petterhny, you also forgot to mention Cycling, Baseball, Volleyball and some other sports, but that's ok. Good thing we are not discussing why the U.S. is sooo good at so many sports... Caeurt: I agree with your argument about the conditions, but remember, most Brazilian kids don't even have shoes and still they have thousands of great soccer players. It's not that there is no competition. Differences in funding etc. will exist everywhere in any sport. It shouldn't take the merit away...
Unfortunate for Kramer, but -4 seconds at the finish line with an inner-course error is a big "IF". If Kramer had -7 second lead or something, that would mean he was already besting a time less that 12:55:00, which obviously means he would have won the gold. If Kramer was having a WR time like run such as the 12:40:00s, it would be obvious... An Inner-course DQ run with -4 seconds from the previous leader is vague. It's not convincing enough that Kramer would have won either...
@HattieLovesCattie That's just because the Canadians and Americans got lucky. If it wasn't for his mistake during the 10K I'm more than certain they would've gotten gold.
Humiliated? :/ That is *way* too strong a word. Rather it is great he managed to come out victorious, and that deserves respect, just like Hedrik does for his impressive feats. Echt onsportief en helemaal niet nodig.
I admire Chad's ability to have have achieved on the ice what he has without actually knowing how to skate yet. I dislike his arrogance, and certainly his treatment of Davis was a violation to speedskating etiquette.
heddrik was dat seizoen troep omdat hij na zijn "succes" op de olympische spelen een jaar lang aan het feesten was maar sven is gewoon de keizer van de 5' en 10k
Chad is a legend in inline speed skating 52 world championships and winner of multiple Olympic medals. He had to change his technique to skate on ice, which gave him a disadvantage. His technique on inline “ the double push” revolutionized in-line speed skating. He began speed skating on ice at the end of his inline career and very soon after got to be world champion. I would like to see the same from ice speed skaters. Chad was the first skater to break the one hour marathon. Let’s see Sven race inline and see his results.
But Chad was great at skating on ice as well. In 2004-2006 he was, together with Shani Davis, the best ice skater in the world. The result we are seeing in this video is just due to Hedrick stopping his serious training after the 2006-season. Hedrick has skated faster than Kramer’s winning time here.
Bit nasty there. Don't think the word humiliation has to be used here. Hedrick obviously overestimated his form or underestimated his opponent. Result...your legs blow up ( like we Dutch say) and you crash and burn. Have some respect for someone willing to push himself to that point.

well, actually it wasn't uneven at all: hedrick won olympic gold at the 5000 m in 2006! Plus he is multiple world champion at this distance (well, few yrs ago). So this was actually a pretty impressive performance by Kramer, but Hedrick wasn't at his best i suppose...
Tbf, Sven Kramer's the dude who came into a world championship competition with a fever, and STILL came in first place
This guy Sven Kramer is already the best long distance speekskater ever in my book. Just plain awesome. Never seen anybody like him.
now even 9 times world champion
True ;-) we are the best! today we won gold in Korea 2018 ESMEE VISSER!
Losing to Sven Kramer isn't really humiliation
i guess that is what they call it when overtaken by one round
Getting 'lapped' is a humiliation!
Correct !
gotta love how Hedrick tries to keep up with kramer when he's pvertaken, and after 2 corners just gives up
because he;s not allowed to follow
@@robertdevries2045 and because he couldn't, embarrassing. Hedrick got humiliated more than I could even imagine. The title was right.
@fastj1962 Agreed, I remember Chad when he was younger, and even now, the guy is fucking insane. I mean he started the inline 'double push' back in like 1994 when he was still a kid, and he spots Sven like a decade in age.
OMG!! Sven can take a rest, tie his shoelaces, have a cup of tea and roll out the red carpet for Hedrick before he passes the finish line!! Amazing!!!
Jammer dat die muziek er onder staat
thank YOU! greez from switzerland
Never seen Chad again on the 10k...
Era un pobre imbécil soberbio y con esto le callaron la boca.
I doubt that.
And besides, what distance should he win next year?
10km, Sven, 5km Sven, 1500m, Bokko? Davis? Sven? 500m Morrison?
@speedskate2010 Chad was so much slower than Sven, that Sven actually passed by him and skated a round ahead of him. Because they change lanes every round, they ended up in the same lane.

Holland is gewoon keihard de beste! vandaag weer! Esmee Visser! ;-)

What a power...!!!

check the description.
Kramer is a beast!
Yes,most likely. That coach used to coach the US speed skating team years ago.Don't know if he worked with Eric Heiden or not?
what's the musicplay? thx 4 answer.
amazing!! you got to love sven
@GameHeadQuarters He's isn't Eric Heiden.
How right you are...

No matter how hard Hedrick works, I dont think he can beat Kramer at the moment. He's definitely a great skater though.
@jorishermans we dutch people often call our own country holland. We even sing holland during 'soccer' matches of our national team...
Dit was gwn geweldig om te zien!!
🎵🎶 Follow the leader leader, follow the leader 🎶🎵🎶
would be interesting to see how both do on inlines instead of blades
@Mooncrawler007 Hey I like the Dutch.I've been to Holland twice and hope to go back again someday.
@MonnieJo8 that not tru, trevor marsicano and Lee (olympic champion 5k) are very small, Sven just pushes against the ice in a way no one else does.
Read he got married and is expecting his first child around the time of the Vancouver games.
@sk8terguy79
That doesn't matter. We are here on ice.
Did Hadrick just skated the 2nd time?!?!
amazing race btw
Wow. Props to kramer, hell of an athlete. Where is he from?

@HattieLC... I'm not defending Sven Kramer here... I just disagree with the title of this vid...
well they really both said that the coach told him to switch lanes, if you think you know it better than sven and the coach...

@mugengaia
That's true. Also consider how Lee lapped a guy and had to skate around him on the outside. That's probably a bit of time as well.
About arrogance: I know to less of Hedrick...
But we also gotta know Hedrick (1977) is 9 years older then Sven Kramer (1986).
LAMBUSFORALL; Sven is the olympic Champ on the 5 K ; Lee on the 10 K by default through Sven's disqualification

chad hedrick gives 16 times unlike??
By a minute and a full+ round.
I dont know much about ice speed skating (I'm an inline speed skater), so I'd like to know why is there so much resentment against Chad Hedrick.
His coach DID tell him wich line he had 2 take. they've said it both. And i think he shouldn't had
We did but we have a record 34 medals with two more a good possiblity.Holland has way less.
