what makes this loco so cool is it's old-timey details (spoked trailing wheel, skinny boiler oil lamp and old-timer stack)with all those crazy little wheels!

Not "Caijin" pass but "El Cajon", pronounced as it is in Spanish, "cah hone".

Really cool steam, smoke, and sounds!! But the simulated audio radio communications to the cab is a far stretch on being authentic. What the heck was Lionel thinking. With these being pre 1918, they would have relied on other means of communications like whistle, hand, or lantern signals. The first wireless system for trains was the inductive Trainphone system developed by the Pennsylvania RR was not even tested until 1936. Lionel probably didn’t research this and let some marketing department of theirs make up more “bells & whistles” for this. LOL! 😂

That engine is HUGE!! It's amazing to see it in motion.

You can still find the newer ones for the price they are asking on the 10 year old ones with slight damage.

What a special and historical locomotive, Chris! It must have made quite an impression when it first appeared on the rails. I guess it wasn't as powerful or efficient as hoped for. But the Lionel model is a real beauty to behold! Thanks for sharing, Chris.

Fantastic locomotive and model! However, the funky cab crew/dispatch radio chatter challenges suspension of one's disbelief because at the time the 3000 entered service, radio communication in railroad applications still lay thirty years into the future. There is no question that this locomotive had failed operationally due to inadequate steaming capacity and had been broken up into two 2-10-2s long before cab radio became a reality. So, if I were fortunate enough to own one, the first Legacy feature I would disable would be "cab chatter".

Wow, Chris, that is a sharp locomotive. I do love that swinging bell. Probably a tad big for my railroad, but awesome all the same. Great review! Bill B.

31 inches long?? thats over two foot and insane but i gotta say nice add to a collection for a layout it makes my three engines look like toys which they are basically 🤣

I find it ironic lately that large steam locomotives from over 100 years ago are making an appearance more on layouts. Even though, the prototypes were deemed failures like the Santa Fe 2-10-10-2 and Erie Triplex.

The locomotive is not my favorite. But the consist behind the locomotive catches my eye. Love the weathering on some of the cars. Also some of the screen shots around the layout are absolutely stunning. Nice job on this video.

Sometimes to much of a good thing is not a good idea. The space between the boiler and wheels just looks strange but a nice review.

Please 🙏 when running Steam Locomotives have a Cabin car/ Caboose on the end of a freight train. Thank You.

2:39 being from Souther California, I must correct you on your pronunciation of Cajon. It’s pronounced Cuh-hone. Sorry, but now you know for next time 😂 Nice video overall

Looks cool but not a fan on how open it is underneath . Tender is really cool. Maybe it the picture but boiler seems to be floating really high? Just an fyi he doesn’t honor discount through his eBay store.

The only other railroad that had these was the Virginian. And they worked better for them.
