I had the privilege of seeing Rage Against The Machine in concert in Detroit 1997. I have never seen the whole floor of the Palace turn into one giant moshpit.
Best concert ever! My first day of college and we drove to see Wu-tang Clan and RATM! We booed Atari Teenage Riot off the stage as the opening act! What up, Do?
Tom Morello always brings nasty riffs, usually several in the same song. Zack drops knowledge in every bar... no frat boy, poser $hit like Bimp Lisquit. RATM always has deep meaning, usually railing against imperialism, capitalism, police state and brutality, the rich and powerful, the broken system, etc... Again, you must find LIVE reactions as this crew always brings the heat=GOATS. DOWN RODEO, PEOPLE OF THE SUN, VIETNOW, WAKE UP... also, good to have lyrics on a phone while watching the live performance. Pause once in a while to break down bars AND to avoid copyright strikes.
Not to mention that Tom Morello is an Honors Harvard Grad in Poli-Sci...so not only does he create the dopest guitar sounds he also knows what they are Raging Against!!!
You're going to find that many of their songs, if not all of them, are still very relevant today. You're going to enjoy this journey. I can promise you that.
I've watched a lot of reaction vids to RATM stuff. Your analysis is articulate and spot on. Also appreciate that you took the time to do some research. Subscribed. (Btw, most people get around the copyright issues by occasionally stopping the video and commenting in real time)
“Fun” fact: after 9/11, 256 songs (I think. I could have that number wrong) were banned from radio stations…. Songs spanning all genres. Some for being too sad, some for being too HAPPY, some for being too violent, mentioning death or airplanes, for being “unpatriotic”. You get the idea. #256 was simply EVERYTHING BY RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. Dude can just drop the mic and be like: my job is done here. 😆 I’m sure he took it as a compliment.
Sorry for all the copyright pauses guys... TH-cam blocked this video 7 times before i could upload it. 👎
The best thing about their songs is that they are still relevant 30+ years later...which is also the saddest part of their songs.

Hell yeah, I love that you’re breaking down the lyrics and the song’s meaning. Welcome to Rage! ✊🏼
thanks 👍🏻
There is a few good live versions of this, and they get a real good look at how he plays that part on the guitar.
