    One thing is MAKE SURE YOU BIND TO CROUCH AND NOT TOGGLE CROUCH!!! If you bind your SJ button on toggle crouch you will angelic descent as soon as the SJ is over which can slow your movement drastically unless you tap your crouch button again

      Ah, that would explain why sometimes I’ve been slow falling on mercy when doing her super jump.

    • @ValkyrianWyverian
      @ValkyrianWyverian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Even though angelic descent activates after SJ, I have to leave toggle crouch on. Turning it off did solve the slow falling problem, but then it created a new one for me with Valk. I had to hold down crouch so I could descend with her ult.
      Which for me on console, is a huge no go. I wish they'd remove the automatic angelic descent activation after SJ, with toggle crouch on.

    my 2 main issues with toggle beam off are:
    1) hand fatigue. mercy is a hero that holds the mouse buttons way more than any other hero. after long gameplay sessions, I could really feel the pain.
    2) mouse switches getting worn out: I remember the 2017 mercy meta where I played with toggle beam off and my new mouse had problems in less than a year. it got inconsistent at keeping the buttons held down, so the beam randomly disconnected no matter how light or tight you held the buttons.
    after that I got back to toggle beam on and honestly I don't regret it.

    • @zilliq
      @zilliq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Yup, I don't play mercy much but I couldn't imagine holding mouse buttons for 20m straight. I had hand fatigue in Diablo 3 and I had to rebind the main abilities to keyboard buttons, this may be a solution for hand fatigue with toggle beam off

    I hope they add the ability to change the colour of the teammate 'auras' at somepoint, I really struggle to play support now because I'm blue-green colourblind, so I can't tell when someone's gone from 100% health to 80%, and it's just sucked the fun out of support for me and I don't see why they changed it from the first game's system of 100% = green. Using the filter helps with that one issue, but brings up tons more, so it's generally more painful to use than to struggle with the colours.

    • @Amy-il5gi
      @Amy-il5gi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Have you tried the color blind mode?

    • @smaviking3524
      @smaviking3524 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Amy-il5gi I have, the filter fixes the health colours, but breaks loads of other stuff, like making it hard to tell when I myself am low health, seeing alerts over the background, and overall making the game... Just really ugly :/ For now I have to hope they improve it because it's practically unusable and very unhelpful as it is.

    0:58 You can also swap to your pistol to break beam connection.

    • @boxo182
      @boxo182 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I was looking for this comment. This is what I do, a quick scroll of my mouse to switch weapons to pistol and back is a perfect way to quickly break connection if you don't wanna accidently reveal a flanker.

  • @DokuDoki
    @DokuDoki 2 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    Toggle Beam ON gets rid of one of the active inputs you need to pay attention to, so if you're struggling with keeping track of your teammates/enemies or with "gotta look at the target I'm healing" mentality I would definitely recommend trying this setting out. You can swap between different beam modes simply by clicking the other beam mode button once, it works even if you're not looking at your target or if you walk out of beam range. You can hold the button down as you're approaching an ally to attach automatically and then let go. About the only thing that's a straight up downside compared to OFF is that if you're looking at a group of teammates and are already attached to one of them and want to swap modes, there's a chance you might connect to a different teammate altogether, so I definitely also recommend lowering your beam sensitivity. It's definitely not as "clunky" of a setting as a lot people think, the muscle memory of OFF just really messes with ON, much more than vice versa.

    • @froggieBeem
      @froggieBeem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If there is a group of allies, you are connected to one of them and want to stay connected but switch beams: look away so you're not facing any allies and change beam modes. It will stay connected to the same person. I find that toggle ON is much better in every way, even the flicking on healing they mention in the video is easy enough with just as much practice as toggle OFF. that is my opinion though.

    6:15 Toggle beam connection(on) is not that bad especially if you are on (prefer facing target) GA. For me, I loss so much focus during the fight when I'm pressing the left right click simultaneously. If you lower your sensitivity&beam sensitivity you will have much control on pressing and canceling the beam

    4:30 i play with toggle GA on and if it is on cd you have to lift your finger for a bit (so the game knows you stopped pressing it) and press it down again, works the same as holding it down with toggle GA off, so basically uses the ability (ANY ability in the game) off cd just like not having a GA target while holding it down and then looking at someone/getting a valid target

    I personally prefer the toggle GA option, at least on Console. I spend so much time trying to keep everything but the beams to just brief taps of the buttons at all times, so double tapping GA is a lot easier for me (especially when its GA on LB and Jump on LT. Its actually really hard to keep that bumper pressed and wind my around around in such a way that I can access the jump without accidentally pressing it lmao)

    I dont find toggling between DB/Healing difficult simply because I never hold the button. Just tap healing and tap DB back instead of holding DB the whole time. With toggle you basically never hold buttons down and swapping between two modes is very smooth. Also, the bit about not being able to cancel beam while looking at your ally isnt technically correct as you can easily disconnect toggle beam by meleeing ^^
    Personally, my wrist gets really tired if i play for too long while constantly holding at least one button and toggle beam definitely helped with it. After swapping to it and playing on it for most of the time at this point, I dont feel like it really has drawbacks - it just takes some getting used to and it comes down to personal preference between the two.

    breaking beam can also be by switching weapons, which is probably the most effective way IMO. On pc its just scroll back and forth, on controller you probably want to switch your switch weapon to reload for mercy.

  • @WR3XW4S
    @WR3XW4S 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Personally, I have "switch weapon" set to my scroll wheel, and "toggle beam connection" on. So, if I need to break my beam quickly, I'll swap to my pistol for a moment then back to my staff.

    The amount of times I died before figuring out that there are settings for these things... That was horrible. Like in my mind I should fly to whoever I'm looking, but I would fly to my beam target and die. And I would hold my GA down, fly to someone, they die, I lift my button, but keep on flying because it was on toggle mode and I just died with my teammate. It was a lovely day when I noticed that there are settings and my way of playing wasn't just plain wrong.

    edit: already answered at 5:57, thanks so much!
    I also use GA toggle off for the same reason as you. I hold down shift with my 5th finger, leaving 2,3,4 on WASD and thumb on space. When I wanted to superjump, I briefly moved 4+5 into position on Shift+Ctrl, which was awkward, but you had to plan superjump and crouch from the start anyway.
    With the new mechanic, I'm always finding my 5th finger holding shift, so without a 6th finger I can't press Ctrl without releasing Shift and ending GA. Did you just rebind Crouch, or is there a trick I haven't thought of?

    • @truckerdave8465
      @truckerdave8465 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get so confused since I rebound everything so long ago. Like my crouch is shift because I play a lot of Minecraft too and that was easier for me. 99% of everything I use is bound to mouse now though. If you can get one, I use the G502, though I’d like to swap to a smaller mouse with the same buttons. Everything but my q is on mouse, abilities and crouch all fit. I tend to squish my mouse when I get stressed, so there are 2 or 3 more things the scroll wheel ‘could’ do, but I found myself smushing them when I would get into a frantic team fight so I removed them.

    I disagree with the prefer facing target option being objectively the best one. Depending on your GA sensitivity you can mess up the target too often (might depend more on aim instead actually). Having the guarantee and consistency of always knowing who you will 100% fly towards is more important in my opinion than the possible higher comfort the setting brings. Though it might not be good for people who don't wish to click often to change beam targets

      80% damage boost? I think that's a lot but really depends on the match. If your team is good or the other healer is doing all the heals you can boost damage more. Avoid letting your team bellow 2/3 of their health (except some tanks). You don't need to full heal to give damage boost, sometimes is better if they kill faster and then you heal.
