  • The last "real" MG was the MGB series which included the MGC -- a very important part of the MG history. With over a half million built from 1962 thru 1980, the "B" was certainly the world's best selling sports car until very recently being surpassed by the Mazda Miata.
MG restoration expert Tom Metcalf, North American MGB Register's Alan Magnuson, and John Rogers of the North American MGC Register provide interesting and insightful information about these cars.

It was actually raised one inch, not two. The moss motors lowering kit fixes it and will make it handle so much better. You can also add the sway bar they removed from 74.5 to 76.

They did not mention one of the most famous if not the most successful MGs, the MGA Twin Cam. Fast but fragile, it could have been a great car!

Most of this video was shot in Louisville KY, at the combined T-register, MMM, NAMGAR, NAMGBR meet
I still haven't recovered from torential rain followed by temps in the upper 90's
The only shade was the interstate overpass you see in the back ground during the interview
john thornley's MGB GT is occasionally seen in the US, I think I remember seeing it at the Peachtree MG meet in Dillard GA ( held in even number years)

My Dad (before I was born) had a MG-TD, then (after I was born) an MG-A.
My oldest brother had a New (from factory) '71 or '72 MG-B (we time and distance rallied in it).
I learned the finer points of shifting after practicing in a '64 Corvair convertible.
Finally I had a '72 MG-B that I had painted from a dark green to a British Racing Green like my brother was. ;-)

I've owned three mg's in my life: A 64 Midget, a 64 1100 (Austin American based) and a right-hand drive 72 MGB-GT. Loved them all, but the British never really DID get the kinks in their electrical systems worked out.

Ken Costello converted several roadsters to V8 engines, though these are very hard to come by these days.

The Rover Car Company, not British Leyland approached GM in 1964 to buy the obsolete Buick 215 engine outright with rights to build it plus all its tooling. Rover the completely retooled the the engine for their P5B model in the mid 60’s. Rover later merged with Triumph who in turn were owned by Leyland Motors in the 1960’s.

The MGB is also a great platform to modify. My '64 MGB is a full frame, custom suspension, 500hp SBC powered FUN Hot Rod, I love my MGB!

Not a car for offroad, you just ruin it.
