Campervan Awning Disaster: Sutton On Sea First Time Set Up Nightmare

- Join us in this latest video where we try to put up our new Vango Cairns Campervan Awning for the first time. The instructions say that it takes two people 8 minutes to put up but we didn't find that to be the case.
VAN GEAR
We use an EcoFlow Delta Max 2 with solar panels for our electricity on the road. We never have to plug into campsite electricity supplies during the summer months. You can find them here amzn.to/43Mm8CQ
We use these lights in the van amzn.to/42WVXbq - they are USB powered, last ages on a charge and they are detachable so you can take them to the toilet block at night time.
This is our trusty diesel heater which we've had zero issues with amzn.to/46fVG6i - it is very warm and extremely economical. We upgraded some of the parts which can be found here -

Claire uses the heater in combination with this oversized hoodie which keeps her warm even in the Alps in winter amzn.to/42JG6Nf

These are hands down the best travel towels. They are small to pack and work like magic at drying us off amzn.to/3JmDjCH

We use an iPad for navigation which is awesome. We mount this over our existing radio with these mounts amzn.to/46qcYxF - they are really good and we haven't had any accidents.
The van is insulated with this insulation amzn.to/3XiVFKM - Claire is usually cold in the house but finds that she is always warm in the van.
We used this for sound deadening the van which has made it so much quieter on the road amzn.to/3Jm8EFr
CAMERA GEAR
Our footage is shot on a GoPro which we highly recommend for travel as they fit into your pocket and your footage is stabilised. These are well worth having and are way better than your phone camera. You may notice that we have really good low-light footage in our recent videos. This has been made possible with the Sony ZV-E10 camera. It's a vlogging camera with a swing-out screen and gives excellent quality images without being too big and heavy. You can find these here amzn.to/448TED2 and the lens that we use here amzn.to/3Nj1brU - the lens is extremely important for low light.
One of the problems with the Sony camera is it is stabilised as well as the GoPro so we use this gimbal when out to smooth out the shots.
We use a lot of batteries when out and about so we have added these extra batteries with chargers to our collection amzn.to/3NDVtm4
This is our tripod which is great as it doubles as a monopod amzn.to/3p3IGzW - it's lightweight and easy to carry around.
I love our camera bag, it's easy to arrange things how you want to with individual compartments, it's got a waterproof cover and you can strap the tripod to it amzn.to/3qRa0Si
We use Comica C3 wireless microphones so that you can all hear us clearly. They are a budget mic but really good for capturing dialogue as we are out and about. You can find these here amzn.to/3Nh32xF

We bought an awning for our van. Trial run in the garden. Went away to France/Spain and used it twice in a month. Too much agro, took up too much space. Sold it.
Hey, we agree. Whoever said it takes 8 minutes to put up lives in a dream world… 😂 We have used ours about 5 times since we got it, maybe not even that 😂 ⛺️ The tent peg came in handy to open up a tin of corned beef but that’s it 😂

I've got same awning as you. Got it because it's much lighter than air awning.
But I'm on my own (my wife passed away 2yrs ago)
Found it very difficult to thread poles through on my own.
So I've cut the elastic & tied knot. The poles going through awning are a separate section & 2vside ares are separate with elbows. Much easier to thread through & pull out when taking down. Actually it doesn't really need any elastic inside.
Also I've glued on awning rail & bought drive away kit.. You don't need to screw them on. Sikaflex, think it's 522 is.

I still use the straps that throw over van though. As they stop it sliding in heavy winds. But I throw the front one over & fix it towards rear of van. & rear strap towards front of van. That way you can open all doors easily
Mine is Renault trafic which is same as yours. On roof there is a section that is raised both side of van. I've glued mine. On the back of that raised section. That way it's not seen.

loved the "Sutton nothing to see" punchline at the end with a great video before it. I was thinking of getting an awning for Viv-i-van but after seeing your struggles, Andy, I'm having second thoughts. Awnings should be like Flash's ring only instead of his suit popping out, a fully errected awning should appear. deffo a good idea to have an awning rail, that way us vivaro owners can bimble off in the van and come back and our awnings are then in the next field- true story, that happened in our motorhome as we watched our 700 quid awning fly south for the winter. I'm loving catching up on your channel videos.... only another 2.5 months worth to go ( not counting the new ones I already commented on 🤣) Keep up the good work and deffo, It would be brilliant to say hello in person one of these days. The funny thing is on that site everyone else had some really large intricate awnings and blow up wind breaker contraptions and we struggled with our easy guaranteed 8 minute awning!!! 😂😂
