One thinks that the art establishment will look down on you for having a shop with merchandise in it using your artwork…and then remember that every exhibition in the major world galleries has a store…with merchandise you can buy on your way out! 😆
This is such a riot, Dries! I found an old price list for Ernie Trova that clearly demonstrated the power of selling multiples unabashedly. He had it all figured out.
Given AI, creativity and brand saturation is inevitable, is it not fair to say that original art (a canvas painting, sculpture etc.) something tangible, is only going to become more sought after? I fully agree that artists need to diversify how they sell their stuff. But I think it's important that artists continue to create original art because more and more people will want things with a human touch. Building a brand takes time, so create original art badly, until it gets good, and then put it on mugs, if you're inclined too. Art is a journey of self discovery that we can't just commodify straight away.
I have thought about that as well and it's not unreasonable to think that the spiritual and the hand made things will go up in value in the next Decade or two for sure
There are really 3 types of artists.... 1. Commercial artist like Damien Hirst 2. Artist who are hobbyist and/or traditionalist, but then there is the greatest artist of all in my humble opinion..number 3.... they are the 1% of artists' artists. Those who love their craft more than their own lives. It pains them to not be able to create. Physically, spiritually, and mentally.......... All three can sell art... it's just a different mentality that is not shared by all three. I applaud Hirst though, for his frankness.... if you tell him a shark in formaldehyde is a representation of waning death and mortality... he will tell you it's just a shark in a tank..... If you tell him his piece of art is just a shark in a tank, he will tell you it's a representaiton of mortality and waning death. Brilliant? Perhaps. Humorous? For sure. Art? Well, you decide...and that's what makes Hirst what he is. An anomaly of an artist and he understands that.
New sub to the channel, do you have a video that goes over how and where specifically to go about selling your art on all of these products? Like where do you even start to begin doing that? I draw art on paper how do I translate that to a phone case or a sticker or a mug or a shirt?
but Dries and I did love this video lol but I really LOVE painting all day and selling my originals.. t-shirt art and mugs are fine but doing that makes me want to gag 🤣🤣
artists will never have anything to fear from ai art. this is because ai depends on existing art to 'create'. Also, ai suffers from a sort of inbreeding problem, ie, generating art from already ai generated art. also, there is a huge backlash against this sort of garbage, not just in art but in many industries that have tried to bolt on ai.
I like it. But what you say about AI makes me think that artists should do everything we can to keep our art off the internet. No pictures. That’s my idea
how ai will take away our ability to be artists?? maybe only if your definition of an artist is the one who succeeds in the art market (i know you are exaggerating for effect but i write a comment to help)
There's other successful artists besides Damien hirst during their lifetime maybe you can add different artists and their success in their lifetime I think it will add to your channel

They all do at some point. I'll search up Ernie Trova, never heard of this artist .
And the cool thing is also "everybody" can benefit from your art instead of being elitist.
Absolutely
Another great video Dries! Thank you. I signed up
Welcome aboard!

Yes you'll find some print on demand videos on the channel talk about that...
Your persona is awesome :D
If you put your art on consumables, your art ends up in the bin with the rest of the landfill trash. Save the planet!
Something to consider for sure. Could be said about lot's of art on canvases as well...
No More Gatekeepers! Ahhhhhhh 🖼️✨

Had Van Gogh dat geweten...Hij was een fabriekje begonnen. Lijkt me een beetje onwaarschijnlijk Dries. Wie gaat al die merchandise betalen?
