Yeah I bought this set for the minis, both the Space Marine and Death Guard Heroes blind boxes went pretty expensively before when separate, the Nurgle Plaguecaster is an extra special exclusive that was only available in Japan, so yeah, taste the tears of the scalpers! The only thing I am disappointed in this box is that they didn't include a mini book version of the Full Kill Team rules like they did with the last edition cheap Two-Player Starter box.
I was super excited to pick this up at the LGS. Then i was kinda bummed because it was sold out on their website immediately. Then i was super happy because when I went to the LGS they had a box on the shelf.
Both the sets were super limited in where they were sold, my local shop told me that the Nurgle sorcerer was ONLY sold in Japan. I imagine that they will eventually sell both of them as regular kits, but no telling if they'll be these specific models or more generic looking groups. I've got it just because I wanted the models, and don't play Marines but wanted to have some to put together, and for how unique the Death Guard figures are.
I was stunned when I saw it had printed MDF terrain as I have been making this since 2018. It looks like 6mm smooth MDF and certainly printed onto a UV flatbed printer. This is straightforward (ISH) to make but not massively quick for the cutting which is done on a laser cutter, hence the darkened edges. I'd love to send you some of my modular stuff to review.
Yes, I've got a few pieces of MDF terrain in my collection, but none with this quality of printing on it. Thankyou so much for your offer, but I'm absolutely full up with things to review and play at the moment!
I'll be getting this one from my FLGS. I want the Plague Marines and my son will like the Space Marines. The terrain is printed to look like the Ryza Ruins or the Fronteris zone. The color and style reminds me of the card stock ruins from 2nd edition 40K.
@@EsotericOrderGamers I think you may have nailed it actually. Their boards are all photographs of a modeled and painted setup. Wouldn't be a surprise if the prints on the terrain are photos as well.
In Canada its not too bad, about $115 CD. I think thats a pretty competitive price for what you get, which is not something insay about GW products very often.
Angels of Death is a moniker for Space Marines. This is the first time the minis have been released to everyone rather than region limited. The price, at least in Canada, is less than if they were both released as separate Kill Teams. Only thing you're not getting if they were released like that are some thick card tokens. I don't think they'll be releasing them separately personally, since they're all on individual sprues and would require larger boxes, but never know.
"People don't think reference materials through...in my experience." LMAOOOOOO Great starter set but yeah, definitely some what/why moments. The pre-printed MDF is fantastic, I'd love to see more of this from GW. Hopefully smaller companies can start moving there from cardboard. No shade at all on GW's expensive plastic stuff. I've got tons of it for Kill Team going back 5 years and have truly enjoyed collecting and painting it! There's definitely a place for this stuff on skirmish tables tho. Angels of Death is a catch-all Space Marines team for this edition, btw -- they combined Intercession Squad and Strike Force Justian from the last edition into the same team.
I'm new to KT. I just read the Angels of Death rules, this set doesn't seem to be enough to build a Kill Team right? Since you need 1 Commander and 5 Operatives?
@@EsotericOrderGamers Yes I did. I wanted to see the detailed rules beyond the Starter Set, so I downloaded the Angels of Death PDF from GW. But I noticed that this Starter Set's model list doesn't quite fit. It seems to be lacking 1 Warrior type? Or is 1 of the special units or command units interchangeable as a warrior unit? From the instructions manual, I've built Commander Units: 1 Captain 1 Intercessor Sergeant Special Units (Pick 1 only): 1 Sniper 1 Heavy Intercessor Gunner Troops: 2 Intercesor Warriors 1 Assault Intercessor Warrior.
@@ShaunGcq The models in the PDF don't match this one, so you'd have to assign figures as you see fit. That warrior with the grenade would be a grenadier I guess, for example - or the warrior with the big gun becomes a gunner. You only need 2 warriors and there are 3 here.
It's been months (it's not you!) but the audio's noticeably better, Peter. Could still do with a bit more bass but I don't blame you for wanting to spend mic money on games instead!
You know, I've tried lapel mics but they're no good unless they're going through a dedicated preamp. So I'm recording this audio through the Canon camera that's doing the overhead shots, and it sounds pretty good to me. If you can recommend the perfect affordable audio gear for what I'm doing, I'm all ears!
Those were originally for sale in Japan. The Japanese seem to love blind buy collectible figures, and there's always a secret figure in the set. I guess GW was trying to break into that market. Yeah, I got the box for the figures... I could play Kill Team if they didn't keep changing the rules all the time...
@@EsotericOrderGamers Yeah, but all the casual opponents at the store are going to be playing the latest edition, all the new material is for the latest edition etc. And when it comes to Kill Team, all the editions are even substantially different with new rules and all new stats for everything. Not just tweaking a ruling here or there like some past 40k editions were.
@@maxxon99 I understand your frustration, but that's not all entirely accurate. The latest version of KT is just tweaks rules-wise, and many of the team stats will be free online. And past editions of W40K and other GW games have all had substantial changes. It's the product cycle, and it's been the same story since Warhammer Fantasy Battle came out in a 2nd edition in 1985 - and people probably complained a lot about that too. 🤣
The starter rules are for people new to gaming. I think it is a good place to start Kill Team. Not a good product for existing Kill Team players. Good if you collect Warhammer Heroes and you don't have these.
I can't get over the prices of this stuff for wht you get. Reused models and money saving at every turn. No idea why GW are the market runners that they are. Looks like rubbish to me.
What’s the point of a starter set being released in such small numbers? This should be a shelf staple, I wonder how many genuine NEW players happened to find this during such a small window of opportunity when compared to how many long time gamers just bought it for the minis? I can’t find a copy and it only just been released….nice one GW! You did it again. 🫤
It's weird isn't? Heroquest was such an affordable entry point for a lot of older Warhammer players, who went on to spend fortunes on GW stuff. And yet they price these 'starter sets' high and make them difficult to get. Every Warhammer game should have a cheap, high quality starter set with a lot of great stuff in it - GW make take a hit on this in the short term, but it creates new generations of gamers. Seems like common sense, but modern business is all about short-term thinking.
Just got my box, as You said useful for kids, I'm an old kid who has been smitten by the Warhammer bug...soon 65 YO
You're never too old - and I'm only 6 years younger than you!
I am 68, same here
Just getting into it myself, Wife has bought me this set for Christmas.

The highs and lows of life!
for counting wounds put 2 dice next to the mini to count their wounds. for lower wounds 1 dice is enough
In 46 years of gaming I've tried every wound-counting method there is! :) But for the price they could throw in some proper wound tokens.

Yep, 'rare' is a very nebulous concept these days! :)
I just ordered mine. The figures looks good and the Nurgle chaos marines are pretty sick
Did not notice it was a green screen until you told us. Garage acoustics are surprisingly decent.
Thanks! Check out the green on the box though. I've abandoned the experiment and gone back to my office ...
