I've met Roy so many times in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Just a regular guy. Shops at Sainsburys, goes out for a curry and very down to earth. You couldn't meet a nicer guy that has been right to the top. He lives in a converted pub in the Peak District where he has a custom made recording studio there. Always wears his rose tinted glasses. Really nice person.
The converted pub that Roy lives in is the former Howard's Arms in Cubley. I've met Roy on several occasions in Holmfirth when he's played at the Picturedrome. He really is a genuine down to earth guy and a true gentleman who always has time to talk to his fans.
Thanks hunners for sharing that. Been a fan since forever. My bro gave me eddy and the Falcons when I was a teen, planning to give him the cd this Xmas. Lol, a story.
he wasn't the vocalist with the move... Carl Wayne was the lead singer with the Birmingham group the Move and his voice can be heard on memorable hits from the Sixties including "I Can Hear the Grass Grow", "Flowers in the Rain" and "Blackberry Way"..
He sounds like he did 50 years ago!!!!What a performance. The guy is in his mid 70s. Has the lungs of a 20 year old. Amazing voice. Just utterly brilliant. RESPECT!!!!
Probably only 18. He was just 15 when he started in music. He went to art school but was expelled in 1964! He then joined The Falcons and went on to co-found The Move. I suppose you can't keep talent like his down, he is naturally gifted. God bless him!
@@Dina6279 Sounds very similar to Lennon's teens. He was also thrown out of art school and then concentrated more on the music. Both of them became talented songwriters.
I just love Roy Wood even with an orchestra behind him. He's still as he was all those years ago. What a brilliant artist who was very underrated 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@Crisadasme Roy wrote some great songs and I thought The Move were a great band. BlackBerry Way was one of my favourites along with, Tonight, Chinatown, California Man, Curly and My Madge. I bought those records when they came out many years ago. Roy is one of those guys I would like to meet. Keep on rockin'! 👍
Just love this man, queued all night outside the Odeon in Brum to get tickets to see him in the 70’s, agree should be knighted for his contribution to pop music, keep rocking Roy!!!
You didn't mention Electric Light Orchestra, that was Roy's brainchild in 1968, it took him and Jeff Lynne from 1970 until 1972 to get ELO on the road as a working band.
Nice one Roy. You have always been approachable ever since we supported The Move at the Gliderdrome in circa 1967. Great memories and still great performances.
Another great song from Roy, he is a hero of mine for about 50 years now, his voice has lasted very well ...just like his great songs. and he has always looked cool. Rock on ROY !!!.
Exactly. Vocal harmony is a vital quotient of the original studio recording and, while the backing singers here are on fine form, the brass section kind of sh!ts all over them. Still got everyone on their feet and having a good time, though, so can't knock that.
I was in England for Christmas and New Year and caught Roy's performance on Jules Holland's new year show. He is amazing as ever, and I'm pissed that he's going to be in Brighton in February as I was just there a few weeks ago. I was disappointed Roy didn't get to perform more.
I have fond memories of Roy and also of Woking, where I was brought up. Sadly the two never coincided other than by me buying The Move's and Roy's records as soon as they were released.
What the f........??? I just came here from the original. This is one of my earliest musical memories. Me playing in the garden with schoolfriends, climbing trees, "borrowing' " my dad's tools from the shed, scrumping apples from neighbours gardens (now reclassified as theft) and ultimately this song playing whilst my mum was doing the washing up. The carefree balmy summers of the 70's. Now, it's just a fight to live, eat and not be called a racist. I'm so grateful and blessed that I lived though the 70's to 90's, If I die now, it was worth it.. ;)
One of the best new year's celebrations I've had, spending it on the lovely Isle of Arran in Scotland with family watching this, great memories, wish I could rewind the clock back for so many reasons.
You are going to have a fantastic time...Roy still rocks the building! I saw him on the 15th of December at Holmfirth and met him after the show. He was fantastic...what a legend and a lovely, lovely man too!
I too saw Roy at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth, I met him in a bar before the gig, we had a chat and he signed one of my cd's. Roy Wood is a real gentleman who always has time for his fans.
I’m an expat living in Canada. I was visiting my sister in Marchington Near Uttoxeter. In walks Roy. He goes to this pub for a good meal. My brother in law says “ alright” Roy says “ yes mate”. Just regular chat.

We love Roy
I can barely imagine how cool that must be!
If you haven't noticed, Roy is singing it in the same key as he did in 1968.
Holy moly
Yes! Not many of them can now. Colin Blunstone ( The Zombies) is another, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull - erm... no :-(
So am I but it dont sound as good.
he wasn't the vocalist with the move... Carl Wayne was the lead singer with the Birmingham group the Move and his voice can be heard on memorable hits from the Sixties including "I Can Hear the Grass Grow", "Flowers in the Rain" and "Blackberry Way"..
wood was the vocalist in wizzard..
He still has all that power and clarity in his voice. A class act.
The song is a dark twist on McCartney's Penny Lane.
I love quality of Roy's high pitched voice. There's no one like Roy!
He sounds like he did 50 years ago!!!!What a performance. The guy is in his mid 70s. Has the lungs of a 20 year old. Amazing voice. Just utterly brilliant. RESPECT!!!!
He was 70 on the 8th of November this year!
So he was only 19 on Flowers In the Rain????????????????????
Probably only 18. He was just 15 when he started in music. He went to art school but was expelled in 1964! He then joined The Falcons and went on to co-found The Move. I suppose you can't keep talent like his down, he is naturally gifted. God bless him!

From the Move, to Wizard, to solo and onwards. A legend.
Give this guy his gong already.
You didn't mention Electric Light Orchestra, that was Roy's brainchild in 1968, it took him and Jeff Lynne from 1970 until 1972 to get ELO on the road as a working band.
I've heard of Roy Wood only because I'm a big Jeff Lynne and ELO fan , but this song is awesome .I'm going to be looking up some more music with Roy.

Great to hear this. His and Carl Wayne's voices were well matched, Roy Wood, a legend!
Exactly. Vocal harmony is a vital quotient of the original studio recording and, while the backing singers here are on fine form, the brass section kind of sh!ts all over them. Still got everyone on their feet and having a good time, though, so can't knock that.

Saw Roy and his band on Tuesday in Woking. It was the best show in ages, and we knew every number:))
I have fond memories of Roy and also of Woking, where I was brought up. Sadly the two never coincided other than by me buying The Move's and Roy's records as soon as they were released.
Roy Wood is just incredible beyond words & seemed to be from day 1. Hardly anyone out there can touch him.
Love this song. Roy Wood is so creative and super listenable
Love the way he threw in that Harry Nilsson Good Old Desk refrain. Classy touch.
Amazing singer
Remember being on holiday in Scotland watching this, great night and memories with family.
Roy still rocks, great stuff!

The Move had Roy Wood, Carl Wayne and Jeff Lynne. Unbelievabke! They should have become the new Beatles.
