So fukin true. And not just any old getting-heavier, redefining heavy as they progressed. And this is one aspect of Pantera that makes me really respect them.

They are INVENTORS of groove metal
*Pioneers, there were many groove metal bands formed in the early 90s.
Last Crack started like three years before Pantera switched his style, and released a demo in 1987 or 1988, doing progressive groove.
The same with Abhorrent, but they had a more thrashy style.
Now, there are some other bands that "created" the genre, as Machine Head (they have a thrashy sound too, but they are very often considered groove metal), White Zombie, even Meshuggah.
Now, if you might be saying "what? Meshuggah is djent you dumbass", actually, Meshuggah was a technical groove/thrash band, later their started to do shitty djent (because djent sucks!), and they released a demo and an EP in 1989.
Pantera is not the inventor of groove metal but one of the pioneers, there was a couple of bands that started doing groove before the release of "Cowboys from Hell", that is considered by many Pantera fans as the first groove metal album ever. I can't understand Pantera fans, I really like Pantera, I even have two CDs, but I can't understand their fans.

And hey if you can produce a kickass solo record all by yourself, fuck yeah more power to you. That said, there’s a clear atomization and cleanliness so to speak taking over metal production that can’t organically produce many bands like Pantera anymore. Shit sucks, but never say never.

Underrated but not the best either. Vinnie said a long time ago Rex had the biggest free ride. In their day Dime was the best guitarist, Vinnie the best drummer and Phil the best metal vocalist. That’s very hard to live up to as bassists are pretty overshadowed in general. I wouldn’t say he had a ‘free ride’, though. A very recognizable name to any metal listeners of last 3 decades. What a shame there aren’t musicians and bands like this anymore... the industry is “nurturing the weakest trend”.

I’ve seen them live a few times back in the 90’s. When Phil walked on stage at one show he said “we’re the goddamn kings of Metal, let’s fuck this place up!” He said that shit with authority and meant every word. Totally badass. Best live shows ever were Pantera. And I’ve been to 100’s of shows.

Ever since I started listening to Pantera, I can't stop. And I can´t listen anything else now :-D. Such a GREAT, ICONIC band. Original, fresh and great - after all those years. Dimebag Darrell is a true guitar legend and master. One of the greatest ever. So sad we will never get more from him and his brother Vinnie. LEGENDARY band.

You have some drum lessons which can be done without drums. Find those excercises on the internet, they will greatlly improve your rhythm and make you fully prepared for the drums when you become 18.

One of my biggest regrets in life and this with God as my witness, is only seeing Pantera live one time. One thing I am eternally grateful to God for is that I was able to see Pantera at least once and never having to regret never having seeing them. I agree 100%. And that’s one of MANY reasons I love this band so much. It’s always been them since the beginning (other than Phil). They play in sync with each other that other bands just don’t seem to have. And that’s most likely the reason they wouldn’t just replace Phil. If 1 person was gone. The band was gone. I don’t think they could ever build that kind of chemistry with anybody. But back to Rex. He is probably the most underrated bassist that’s ever played. I personally feel like he’s been robbed because of that. Dude is straight god status on the bass.

The raw talent pantera had in there prime. Leaves me speachless. They are second to none. I wish this level of talent could be re- created. Unfortunately even when tried, it is impossible. All we can do now is to watch/ learn/ and give it are all. Most importantly leave everything you have to offer on your stage ( of life).
Reinventing the Steel caught me completely off guard. Pantera recorded and released the most mature metal album just when most bands of the generation were sliding down. Still amazing 20 years on and sounding like it came out yesterday.
One thing about steel its one of their best. I only can guess here that Phil had a Few Clear Moments for once. Trendkill was mostly sludge because Phil was drowning in it at that time.
Steel was one of the best things the band ever released.
