I know why lulu the elephant was so wild, she was used to being "managed" with a stick to follow instructions, but someone from the show said not to let the handler have the stick in front of cameras, so lulu thought it was party time 🤣

The zero viewers thing is nonsense since it the figures were based on the BARB system, which tracks the viewing of *checks notes* 5300 households across the entirety of the UK.
For an old fart like me there can be no other Blue Peter presenters than Pete, John and Valerie, just like there can be no other Dr Who other than Tom Baker.
There is no "Dr Who". Dr Who is the name of the show, but not the name of the show's main protagonist... Also, good job dimissing the three timelords who came before him, but thanks for admitting you're an old fart. We young ones appreciate it.

I’m glad you mentioned poor Michael Sundin, and the phone-in scandal high up on the list. In particular, Michael Sundin’s sacking was homophobic. I know Mark Curry, a later presenter, was also gay and not sacked, but he didn’t APPEAR gay. Michael Sundin was a bit more stereotypical gay, as far as parents writing in to Biddy Baxter were concerned. She listened to their bigotry and sacked him. I appreciate the photo with the stripper also scuppered him, but that was also pure homophobia. If Simon Groom went out to a bar with female strippers, it’s not as newsworthy as a celeb gay man in a gay bar. The salacious paparazzi just decided to wreck Sundin’s career. The media were incredibly homophobic in the 80’s. It’s tragic, especially when taken with the news of his death a few years later.
Why was his sacking homophobic? Do you honestly think he wouldn't have been sacked if evidence had come to light that he was with a Female stripper?? You see, it was the stripper aspect he was sacked for, not the gender of said stripper.
They didn't mention the time in 1974 when Petra bit Lesley Judd and gave her rabies and she died and they had to replace her with a Lesley Judd lookalike.

I remember the 1984 capsule opening and it was largely destroyed by water and I just thought 16 years??!? Why didn't they just put it in someone's loft? Time capsules should sit there for 100s of years if you're going to bury them
he full Lulu the elephant clip should have been shown, it's hilarious, including (if I remember correctly) John Noakes slipping on the wet floor created by Lulu's 'leak'.. Also, it was strongly rumoured that presenter Peter Duncan had vandalised the Blue Peter garden over contractual issues in (once again, if I remember correctly) the first vandalisation... But, you gotta love Blue Peter! For thise old enough to remember John Noakes' Cresta Run where he crashed and slid about 200 metres on his backside, then showed the other presenters (child-safely) his bruises...
Now the "Ru Peter" badge makes sense 🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️

I remember Richard Bacon and the drugs story - then he got a better paid full time job on the Big Breakfast - and popped up on TFI with chris Evans - it didnt harm his career much at all .

I’m not even from the UK, but I think these videos are more interesting than the US version of WatchMojo.
I remember back in the late 60's or early 70's they were trying to make a model hovercraft - I think it was John Nokes? who cut a tin lid to make a lift propeller, attached it to a small electric motor and took a slice out of his fingers with it - it must have been live as it went from "here's how to do it" straight to "don't do this at home", while his fingers bled. I really wanted to make one and but after that Mum said "no"... Then I proposed building a full size one as my major design and make project for my Engineering Product Design degree in the mid '80's but my lecturers said "no" (that was in spite of agreed loan of 2 gas turbine engines from the company sponsoring me at the time). Blue Peter has a lot to answer for...
One day you will build it. It will be a Last of the Summer Wine scenario.

Remember Konnie Huq? She was in everything on TV, and I mean EVERYTHING, as Richard Osman seems to be today.
She’s a very successful children's author and screenwriter these days, and has co written some Black Mirror stuff alongside her husband, Charlie Brooker.
I recall one of her jugs falling out of her top on a red carpet event.
Her sister is a London Labour PM.
Leila Williams the first female presenter was sacked in Jan 1962, also because a new producer Clive Parkhurst (he replaced the original producer John Hunter Blair) said he couldn't find anything for her to do, after the original producer was forced to retire because of ill health, the two presenters were expected to do their own projects, and Leila resisted this, if this hadn't happen you would never of had Anita West and Valerie Singleton on Blue Peter.
That's sad about Michael Sundin. He seemed like a nice chap

As a american I've never heard of this show until the 1st vid came out but it's crazy to me a children's show has so many scandals. It's crazy it's still going after registering 0 views. That's something so bad it should be impossible.
It began in 1958, so the scandals aren't frequent.

To be fair though I remember when BBC2 would put on kids educational programmes on during that weird portion of the day for when kids weren't at school. I remember when I was off ill I would watch them. It's really weird that not one person in the whole of the UK had their TV on that channel for that day lol
You have the timeline for Michael Sundin wrong. Richard Marson (who knows a lot about TV and Blue Peter in particular) has pointed out that the tabloid nightclub story about him was published AFTER he was dropped from the programme - I think actually later in the same year, 1985.
With regard to the name of the cat, I heard that they decided to make Socks the winning name because there was (apparently) a rather rude joke going the rounds about the name Cookie. It was seen as short for "Cooking Fat". I can't reveal the actual name, but try reversing the initial letters ....

I met one of the first Blue Peter presenters in Reading selling papers think in about tit now it's a shame life didn't go quite the way he must have hoped it would but as he said at least he has the memory of the fun times he said the funniest think that happened during his tenure was Lulu the elephant.

I remember when I was very young there constantly seemed to be reports of Simon Groom shite shovelling on his farm. I also hated that Biddy Baxter hag and the creepy old man with the bread. However, I still have my Blue Peter badge I won and still use it to get in to attractions and sites for free.

I met the then presenters, Caron Keating, Yvette Fielding and Marc Curry - they were all lovely but that Baxter woman and the creepy man whose name I’ve forgotten now, were cold, unfeeling and I got the impression they didn’t like children
