Best way to tell the difference between silver and nickel coins is simply the sound they make when lightly dropped on a table, no need for a scale because not everyone has a scale
Ya or just use a magnet and know instantly... I have found a bunch of these and would never weigh or drop it even though these methods work fine Use a magnet :)
Thanks for the info. I had a 1973 quarter and wasnt sure how to tell the large from the small bust but your video helped me figure out that I did not have the rare one. Oh well, keep up the good work. See ya in the next one.
There's a specific year when the Canadian mint under produced the quarter. There were only 495,000 struck for the 1991 year. They stopped production for 1991 early, so they can work on producing the Canada 125 series of quarters for 1992. The lower No. of quarters minted in 1991, meant each quarter shot up in price due to rarity. Starting at 3.00 per coin.
I have one of the 1973 Mountie coins and am currently trying to figure its value. It is magnetic but I heard that was not actually a relevant test? The other coin I have is the 1967 Bobcat, which is not magnetic. Should I be weighing them to find out their silver or nickel content? I would really appreciate your input, thanks.
IF you want to see what a coin here discussed/explained, search the internet with the correct name. I read the comments and I also know he didnt share photos of some of these coins. There has to be a library of these coins on line some where. Good luck, I have to search as well, and who knows, maybe some one else on YT has the coin you need to see, perhaps they have one.
When they were putting out the "Mountie quarters" the government was complaining that people were not using them. They were estimating at the time only about half were being circulated. Over the next few decades they were used more often but there are still way too many still being saved to make them more than a curiosity.
I have many 1973 Mountie coins but lots of luck finding the small bust in circulation. Many of the coins spoken of in these videos are no-shows in circulation, but yes, one can still find some silver coins in circulation as people turn in those accumulations in glass jars they inherited or clean out the sock drawer. Don't get your hopes too high.
#@ How much is the latest selling price of that Canada coin,1979 1978,2012,,, Cow with a long horn like a Deer,, i have this on my coin collection, thnx
They also had trading cards for the 1973 RCMP. And a silver dollar. The big deal on the quarter is they started with the traditional bust and then went to a smaller one. The large bust pays over $50.
It should be made clear that the vast majority of Mountie quarters are only worth 25 cents. There were about 136 million made. It's a small selection of special large bust quarters that are rare.
Yea chances of that are slim. Just saying that most silver coins were taken out of circulation for the 1968 quarter it is pretty unlikely your gonna find the silver variant. For the Mountie chances of finding a large bust is slim because a lot of coin collectors look for them. As for the 5 cents because it was a popular coin there are very few left in circulation.
I have a really confusing quarter, it looks like copper, it's from 2007 , "district of Columbia" "Fredrick Douglas" And I'm kinda confused cuz it has the same color as a penny
I just found a 2016 dime with a lot of the dots kind of flatter than the others! Has anyone even mentioned these ,I really think it has to be an error!
mark demell I have bags full of quarters, nickels and dimes like that, some have no dots at all....all from 2016,2017,2018,2019 A few from 2012 as well
in 1973 i was in jr high, sometimes in shop class some kids would put coins in something and pour resin over them i always wonder if any where the large bust also even back then it was hard to find the large one, all so the last few years the mint has been recalling old coins and melting them down and issue crap that will rust By the way i receive a very worn 1960 cdn quarter
I have that 1973 25 cent piece but I guess it's not a silver coin I don't know those transitioning dates for 10 cent piece and 25 cent piece I'm so so confused which one is .500 and which one is not a silver
I have two 1973 Canadian quarters one 1965 nickel and one 1969 dime and one 1969 quarter there ungraded yet I know there worth quit a good amount of money and last of all I have a 1944 brass three pence coin and that’s the big one we’re could I sell them
This video would make sense if you showed each coin you're talking about as you go along. At first it's annoying and then becomes ridiculous. Think it through next time, please.
I agree there has to be photos on line somewhere of the coins he does not have. Maybe one can just search for them by name if the name is correct when given here.
One other question I would be interested in resolving would be, 'how does one tell a1967 80% silver quarter from (what I have been told) a 1967 50% silver quarter?'
1968 was a transition year from silver to nickel, as a result the RCM was not trying to trick anyone. LOL New sub.

Nice review of the top ten Canadian Collectible Coins. :) New sub.
I would have liked to see that Lynx quarter at the beginning...
That quarter, from the mounted police, I always liked very much. and I have one as soon as I could sell it.
Best way to tell the difference between silver and nickel coins is simply the sound they make when lightly dropped on a table, no need for a scale because not everyone has a scale
Use a magnet. Silver coins will not be attracted to it.
Scott Mitchell Also the surface of the silver-containing coin will be frosty, but, yes, silver coin “rings” when dropped.
Ya or just use a magnet and know instantly...
I have found a bunch of these and would never weigh or drop it even though these methods work fine
Use a magnet :)
Although you have to be familiar with the difference in sound the two coins make.

the easy way to tell the 1968 quarters apart is to use a magnet ,and one of my favorite commemorative Canadian coins is the 1951 nickel
instablaster...
Very nice selection of coins. The 1968 Silver Quarter is about the only silver Quarter you can still find in circulation
Found a 1966 today. Out of 10 quarter rolls. Was happy

It is RCMP (Roayl Canadian Mounted Police, you are right. From Canada.
The large headc1973 Canada quarter. Is hard to find. I have 7 of them. 2 regular used issued and 4 in mint sets from mint.

I spend a lot of my time searching for a very Rare and expensive coin.
Great video thanks for talking about our coins in the GREAT WHITE NORTH, if you ever want to swap let me know
the sliver quarter will be hard to find...even in the 80's and 90's people were keeping them when they got them .......but they do show up...
R C M P. stands for Royal Canadian Mounted Police.I just got one of these quaters from 1973 last week at 7-11 store
When they were putting out the "Mountie quarters" the government was complaining that people were not using them. They were estimating at the time only about half were being circulated. Over the next few decades they were used more often but there are still way too many still being saved to make them more than a curiosity.
Probably because they were only 2 different commemorative quarters designs minted at that time so i guess it was still a new thing
I actually used a Canada quarter in America in a machine and it works. I think it's because Canada quarters feel like US quarters.
I have many 1973 Mountie coins but lots of luck finding the small bust in circulation. I had one of them nickels didn’t know it was rare “ish”
#@ How much is the latest selling price of that Canada coin,1979 1978,2012,,, Cow with a long horn like a Deer,, i have this on my coin collection, thnx
RCMP is Royal Canadian Mounted Police you are correct.
The 1991 Canadian quarter production was 450,000 making it relatively rare.
Why aren't you providing pictures of the coins your taking about?
I have this in a mint set and one from circulation found in change.
The 1973 quarter has a large head and a small head. Only 10,000 large head approx issued.
The animal on the 1967 Canadian quarter is a lynx and not a bobcat. Thanks for the video.
They also had trading cards for the 1973 RCMP. And a silver dollar. The big deal on the quarter is they started with the traditional bust and then went to a smaller one. The large bust pays over $50.

Thank you for the information
People always forget about the 1991 Canadian quarter. Its SUPER rare as only 450,000 were minted.

The the 1997 and 1998

I find the easiest way to tell between the silver and nickel is to use a magnet
Checked 135 1973 quarters to see if I have the large bust. I don't have one.
Yes RCMP is correct. Royal Canadian Mounted Police
It should be made clear that the vast majority of Mountie quarters are only worth 25 cents. There were about 136 million made. It's a small selection of special large bust quarters that are rare.
