If you'd study how words came to be you'd understand if we remove the c in ancient and use sh it'd still make total sense. Now if you want to talk old English and the old language of every ethnic. There are languages that can command the sea. That have been getting into black magic nowadays
A quick note that might have something to do with the main character back ground is the fact that he/she can see Thestral's So what ever he/she has survived may have resulted in somebody else's death
@Max for us to get a Thestral mount our character must have seen death before. That would be a major breaking of the lore, that I don't think Avalanche would do. They could have done several other pre order mounts, but they chose thestral for a reason!

Just so you guys know, Dumbledore attended Hogwarts first year in 1892 so there's a small chance he'll be in the game as a kid, depends on what the directors want.
It would be cool if he made a camio, but it should be fairly small. Well, hes a firstie, so it would be, but he shouldnt have a prominent role, otherwise you run the risk of jumping the shark.
Needs to be as much of an Easter egg as possible. Specific time and conditions, maybe weather events etc that all have to line up perfect for a random encounter between classes
Yea, lots of Cyberpunk vibes from this game. Lots of hype, very little actual gameplay showcased outside of some very cherry-picked bits. Would love to see an early gameplay stream leading up to release, show off the first half hour at least.
I really hope they take a Bully (Canis Canem Edit) approach to schooling with classes you attend (that have levels/benefits to completing, interactions between students and a curfew with prefects, teachers and other authorities to enforce good behaviour.
I'm so hyped for exploring the castle and flying around on broom or hippogriff , it looked amazing, I just hope you can fly anywhere without restrictions.

part of me is hoping that the MC is a descendent of merlin, because throughout the HP series you hear about all these legacies, but not once do we hear about merlins bloodline

If you go on pottermore they are there but I have never heard of any of them. They are also desendents of slytherin apparently which is also intresting.
It’s going to be interesting if they make a sequel to this game because it’s at an awkward time period where the second game will have characters from the movies
My hype for this game is on par for that of BG3. Planning on playing this for my fantasy fix up until BG3 releases. Hope the speculations about a delay end up not being true
Look I can not tell you just how glad I am that the game takes place almost over a century prior to the books. I love the cast of the books, I love the storyline, I love everything that happened in the 20th century that sorta led to the events of the books, but I gotta admit I am really happy that we will see fresh faces instead of the same cast again. It's also an amazing way of letting the players feel free from the "shackles" of the books. I will however miss the uniforms of the late 20th century as they are my favorite ones aesthetically.
For those asking about equal rights for the goblins...it's just a game! Just play the game and go with the storyline! I don't see anyone asking questions about Red Dead Redemption 2 about Arthur choices

I would so much rather start as a random 1st year and build a unique legacy all my own. Anyone else feel the same? Anything going on at Hogwarts seems like it would be better as an in-depth, slow-burn RPG with 7 chapters.
Yeah I was quite disappointed when I first learned that you join in 5th year but obviously we‘ve had a loooooong ass time to come to terms with that disappointment so now I’m just excited to get my hands on whatever they give us!! Maybe one day they’ll build on this? Or if this first game proves popular enough, they’ll do some weird Sims-like thing of coming out with 8 billion expansion packs and one of these will involve being able to do hogwarts from 1st year and just go about doing normal teenage things and let us all live our fantasy haha
Very excited for this game! Been waiting for another HP game for awhile now. I enjoyed the old ones quite a bit on PC - mostly collecting bertie botts beans - but we are very overdue for a modern HP gaming experience.

It would be quite lame if your (your character) investigation into the goblins in the game just leads to the answer you (as a player) already knew from the outset: that the goblins are evil.

Lily protecting Harry is not really "Ancient" ancient magic imo, but good old fashioned blood magic. The fact that the Private Drive is protected by a blood ward reinforces this.

So, is it semi open world concept Or is it pretty linear? I was hoping for a more open world concept for every school year you enroll in classes and level up certain attributes through xp by taking certain classes as well as a bit of a similar approach to it like Skyrim.
Both. Hogwarts is big and the main hub, but you can explore outside the castle a fair amount, the quick shot I saw of the map was big, but still unclear how long it would take to get to key spots, how big sections are in between relative to scale. And I know there’s an upgrade system, so you can really focus on spells and elements you like, or get really into min maxing potions or using creatures while you fight

Hogwarts is the safest place in the magical world in HP book1 because Dumbledore is the headmaster this was mentioned numerous times specifically. That’s not the case here. Of course Hogwarts is still very safe and has some really good security mechanics installed. But you got it wrong it isn’t said that there is no safer place than hogwarts if Dumbledore isnt there in fact we see that hogwarts was pretty quickly overtaken two times . One time after Dumbledores death through politics and sexond time in the final battle it was pretty clear that voldemorts allies would have won the siege if voldi didn’t die
Most likely depends on the enemie or threat. Do you just want to hide? Do you want active protection? Is your enemie a single known enemie or an organisation? is it political? Hogwarts isnt a 100% secure place for an example everybody is able to get to hogsmeat. Students get picked up there We know for sure Hogwarts security mechanics do nothing against animagi for example so pretty easy to get in there Even easier to kill somebody there in such a big terrain without many people as guards Probably even the ministry is more safe if one known criminal wants to kill you and there are many more safer options

ORIGIN STORY IDEA: You're the kid of a wizard and scene cutz to your parents in a duel with a wizard, affiliation unk. Parents then die and you don't know if they were good or bad. Skip to your first year and we get sorted, attend a couple classes in game and these classes help you build your character. Year two passes you attend more classes and more abilities unlocked. Essentially, even tho you don't get to explore fully until the 5th year atleast your character has a background at hogwartz and you're not just some amazing wizard prodigy who shows up and is immediately awesome at magic.

Overly precious "concerns" over the presence of a revolutionary antagonist makes me want to buy it just to spite the hand wringers. But, pre-ordering is a trap, best to see it as a final product first.
"Fantastical" isnt a word, ive literally googled it to see if those movies were renamed for the soft brains across the pond and lo and behold I found nothing.
The only reason why you won't meet Albus is because you're him. Magicans have always been known to be able to prolong their lifespan, he's a keeper, most keepers were 5th years as they join Hogwarts. Also plot is kinda broken, Morgan le fey, the queen witch of the Covenant known as the 13 witches. Arthur died because you got jealous and charmed Merlin. His best friend and advisor becouse of this the battle where Arthur fell Merlin was nowhere to be found, struck with grief he killed all the enemies of their armies with storms and earthquakes, Morgana dies out i never really cared about her after the fact of Arthur dying, also we're 150 years later, but hp isn't now, Last Movie came when? I mean i was around 10 by the time of the first one, i love the Fallout games the darkness of this game gives it an intriguing eerie feeling, it brings mystics and wonder to a great story
Are we allowed to become dark Wizards or witches in this game that is really one question I have and you know honesty that's the only question I have because that would make for a great game experience within the Wizarding World

I also don't like the what it seems like heavy inclusion of fantastical beasts I hope you will be able to mostly go around that. I am very exited for this game and hope it'll be amazing.
Dark Wizards hate non-magics folk, mostly. Goblins are magic folk. The beef between Goblin and Wizard came later and elves are a whole different thing/beef. Infact, the reason Goblins run all the money services is mainly due to the high regard they use to have in the magic community.
I think this is one of the problems with many games today, too many people talk about it and give away too much information before the game is even out. They hype it up and tell all then by the time the game comes out, people aren't so exited as they know most of what they would have enjoyed learning while playing as well as them being too over hyped! Now i'm looking forward to this game and it's the reason i have avoided watching the video or any video that will give much away. I think we can sometimes have to much information about a game which spoils it in so many ways.
A good trailer will not give away any real story spoilers. It only gives clues and oftentimes red herrings to allow for fan speculation. Most of the info revealed is going to be info that players learn within the first couple hours of play. Us TH-camrs also don’t have any insider information to share. With that said, sure you have a choice to watch / read articles, and for some people they may enjoy it more to come in completely blind.
All this not to mention the possibility that SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER ACTUAL POSSIBLE SPOILER, IF YOU READ ON IT, I AM NOT LIABLE AND YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. The possible spoiler is that the main character could be a werewolf. Trust me I know it seems insane and unlikely but the possibility is very much there given how the presence of the moon is so huge throughout everything we've seen. Could also be part of the reason the mc stands out to everyone as the new arrival. It explains a lot of different things as well, things I dont want to get into at the moment though.

Your analysis of goblins is only one of wrongdoing on behalf of wizards. This is not entirely correct and one-sided. Goblins are known to be highly untrustworthy and have a different concept of ownership and belonging. I'm pretty certain that the wars between goblins and wizards mentioned in the books were not one-sided. My character in Hogwarts Legacy will never be trusting a goblin or doing business with them. :p

In Baldur's Gate you can kill off the damned orcs. No politics, no social justice and people eager to 'explore a societal problem' through a videogame. Fantasy worlds have their own made-up, and unrelated politics between different groups, races, etc. It's what makes the Elder Scrolls so fun and immersive. So no, I don't exactly understand why there HAS to be a plot in the story where wizards are the culpable, evil ones and one where the goblins are the oppressed 'minority group' fighting for 'equal rights' or some other kind of nonsense. I don't specifically understand why that is the automatic narrative and why the story has to go that way, or else. (Threats to the developers if they dare to come up with something you know, actually original and not related to real life whatsoever). Such as the Goblins being the most dictatorial, vicious creatures who wear pink tights and who are manipulative and engage in trickery and subterfuge. With silly French moustaches.
'Equal rights for goblins', as if there is any correlation between this setting and this narrative and real life. It's just unbelievable that you have to deal with and respond to people who cannot separate real life from fiction. I simply ignore them - they're the exact people who ruin storytelling and videogames. It's literally these kinds of people - I don't understand how they manage to live and exist in the world, surely they must crumble every time they exit their own front doors. I genuinely believe your best bet is to ignore them and to remind them that this is an adult world we live in. Harry Potter isn't reality; neither is Twitter.

So, is it semi open world concept Or is it pretty linear? I was hoping for a more open world concept for every school year you enroll in classes and level up certain attributes through xp by taking certain classes as well as a bit of a similar approach to it like Skyrim.

Hogwarts is big and the main hub, but you can explore outside the castle a fair amount, the quick shot I saw of the map was big, but still unclear how long it would take to get to key spots, how big sections are in between relative to scale. And I know there’s an upgrade system, so you can really focus on spells and elements you like, or get really into min maxing potions or using creatures while you fight

Hogwarts is the safest place in the magical world in HP book1 because Dumbledore is the headmaster this was mentioned numerous times specifically.

Of course Hogwarts is still very safe and has some really good security mechanics installed.
But you got it wrong it isn’t said that there is no safer place than hogwarts if Dumbledore isnt there in fact we see that hogwarts was pretty quickly overtaken two times .
One time after Dumbledores death through politics
and sexond time in the final battle it was pretty clear that voldemorts allies would have won the siege if voldi didn’t die
So what would be a safer place?
Most likely depends on the enemie or threat.
Do you just want to hide?
Do you want active protection?
Is your enemie a single known enemie or an organisation?
is it political?
Hogwarts isnt a 100% secure place for an example everybody is able to get to hogsmeat.
Students get picked up there
We know for sure Hogwarts security mechanics do nothing against animagi for example so pretty easy to get in there
Even easier to kill somebody there in such a big terrain without many people as guards
Probably even the ministry is more safe if one known criminal wants to kill you and there are many more safer options

I just beat this game now as a dark wizard and the ending of the game was very let’s just say very open for more games
ORIGIN STORY IDEA: You're the kid of a wizard and scene cutz to your parents in a duel with a wizard, affiliation unk. Parents then die and you don't know if they were good or bad.
Skip to your first year and we get sorted, attend a couple classes in game and these classes help you build your character.
Year two passes you attend more classes and more abilities unlocked. Essentially, even tho you don't get to explore fully until the 5th year atleast your character has a background at hogwartz and you're not just some amazing wizard prodigy who shows up and is immediately awesome at magic.

I like everything but the combat. magic seems so cheap to me it's too fast, flashy and the Ragdoll Physics, yeah...just like star wars lightsaber.

To be fair the combat felt just like that in the movies too, unless Dumbledore and Voldemort were fighting

Great video especially for someone who’s not really been interested in the whole Harry Potter and Hogwarts lore until now . Can’t wait for this game, I just really hope that it doesn’t go down the Cyberpunk route of being built as a great game only to suck at launch fingers crossed it isn’t

The only reason why you won't meet Albus is because you're him. Magicans have always been known to be able to prolong their lifespan, he's a keeper, most keepers were 5th years as they join Hogwarts. Also plot is kinda broken, Morgan le fey, the queen witch of the Covenant known as the 13 witches. Arthur died because you got jealous and charmed Merlin. His best friend and advisor becouse of this the battle where Arthur fell Merlin was nowhere to be found, struck with grief he killed all the enemies of their armies with storms and earthquakes, Morgana dies out i never really cared about her after the fact of Arthur dying, also we're 150 years later, but hp isn't now, Last Movie came when? I mean i was around 10 by the time of the first one, i love the Fallout games the darkness of this game gives it an intriguing eerie feeling, it brings mystics and wonder to a great story

Are we allowed to become dark Wizards or witches in this game that is really one question I have and you know honesty that's the only question I have because that would make for a great game experience within the Wizarding World
Don't dark wizards hate all non wizards tho? Working with(!) goblins would go against their ideals at least for those in the late 1900's.
I also don't like the what it seems like heavy inclusion of fantastical beasts I hope you will be able to mostly go around that.

Dark Wizards hate non-magics folk, mostly. Goblins are magic folk. The beef between Goblin and Wizard came later and elves are a whole different thing/beef. Infact, the reason Goblins run all the money services is mainly due to the high regard they use to have in the magic community.
Even if they did hate goblins, that doesn't mean they can't work with them to achieve a "greater" goal. Goblins might just be a means to an end.

I think this is one of the problems with many games today, too many people talk about it and give away too much information before the game is even out.
They hype it up and tell all then by the time the game comes out, people aren't so exited as they know most of what they would have enjoyed learning while playing as well as them being too over hyped!
Now i'm looking forward to this game and it's the reason i have avoided watching the video or any video that will give much away.
I think we can sometimes have to much information about a game which spoils it in so many ways.
A good trailer will not give away any real story spoilers. It only gives clues and oftentimes red herrings to allow for fan speculation. Most of the info revealed is going to be info that players learn within the first couple hours of play. Us TH-camrs also don’t have any insider information to share. With that said, sure you have a choice to watch / read articles, and for some people they may enjoy it more to come in completely blind.
All this not to mention the possibility that SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER ACTUAL POSSIBLE SPOILER, IF YOU READ ON IT, I AM NOT LIABLE AND YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN.
The possible spoiler is that the main character could be a werewolf. Trust me I know it seems insane and unlikely but the possibility is very much there given how the presence of the moon is so huge throughout everything we've seen. Could also be part of the reason the mc stands out to everyone as the new arrival. It explains a lot of different things as well, things I dont want to get into at the moment though.

Your analysis of goblins is only one of wrongdoing on behalf of wizards. This is not entirely correct and one-sided. Goblins are known to be highly untrustworthy and have a different concept of ownership and belonging. I'm pretty certain that the wars between goblins and wizards mentioned in the books were not one-sided.
My character in Hogwarts Legacy will never be trusting a goblin or doing business with them. :p

There should be no social justice or commentary in the videogame at all. A fantasy goblin race which bahaves unscrupulously and his a vicious side, there is no problem with that. It's all fiction.
In Baldur's Gate you can kill off the damned orcs. No politics, no social justice and people eager to 'explore a societal problem' through a videogame.
Fantasy worlds have their own made-up, and unrelated politics between different groups, races, etc. It's what makes the Elder Scrolls so fun and immersive.
So no, I don't exactly understand why there HAS to be a plot in the story where wizards are the culpable, evil ones and one where the goblins are the oppressed 'minority group' fighting for 'equal rights' or some other kind of nonsense.
I don't specifically understand why that is the automatic narrative and why the story has to go that way, or else. (Threats to the developers if they dare to come up with something you know, actually original and not related to real life whatsoever).
Such as the Goblins being the most dictatorial, vicious creatures who wear pink tights and who are manipulative and engage in trickery and subterfuge.

'Equal rights for goblins', as if there is any correlation between this setting and this narrative and real life. It's just unbelievable that you have to deal with and respond to people who cannot separate real life from fiction. I simply ignore them - they're the exact people who ruin storytelling and videogames. It's literally these kinds of people - I don't understand how they manage to live and exist in the world, surely they must crumble every time they exit their own front doors.
I genuinely believe your best bet is to ignore them and to remind them that this is an adult world we live in. Harry Potter isn't reality; neither is Twitter.
