Thanks - good fun. Of all the cars I've owned over 35 years, my LS400 is still in the top 3. Shocked at its reliability, and how well it held up, including the fit-and-finish and paint. Even survived street parking in Manhattan for 2 years :)
AMD, If you are 'super excited' to rejuvenate this 29 year old LS, we will be super excited to follow along. After all, don't they always say - LS is more? 😁😁
Just an interesting side note, those 1UZ engines were FAA certified. Toyota at the time was looking into getting into the small aircraft manufacturing and they were going to use a supercharged version of this engine. So the engine is very light weight but strong enough to be boosted enough to make almost 500hp.
I just bought a 1996 LS400 about 5 months ago for my first car. It’s been the absolute best car ever. It’s so beautiful and the interior is so nice. It rides amazing and it’s so bulletproof. The build quality and material quality is so high. Easily the best car I will ever own
Another great video...and your shop is sooo clean! Love it. In 2004, I inherited my Dad's 1999 LS400 with just 15K on the odometer. Wonderful car until teenager ran a stop light and T-boned the passenger side. Replaced with a new Toyota Tundra...another well built product.
I bought my grandparents 2000 Lexus LS 400 a two years ago from their estate when my grandmother passed away. It has 171,882 miles on it now and it looks exactly like this car. The problem is like mentioned parts are very hard to find. I had to dump almost $9,000 when I got it to replace practically everything that is rubber. I had high pressure A/C hoses leaking fluid everywhere because they had corroded. I had to do the valve covers, replace the radiator, all the fluids changed. It was not cheap. I did have some body work done on the rear bumper because my grandma backed into a metal garbage can in a parking lot once. Luckily it was a Texas vehicle it's entire life so no rust. minus the bumper which I did replaced. Anyway, this video is very dejavu for me because most of what you are replacing I did as well. My big concern is parts in the future. The starter and alternator have never been replaced, and when I went to the Lexus dealership they told me to buy up everything I can parts wise because they are discontinuing parts for the LS 400 in 2025. I dropped another $2,000 on a starter, alternator, and some smaller parts that will need to be replaced sooner than later.
When ordering your rad what are your thoughts on a all aluminum rads as opposed to the plastic aluminum one now a day some that I have seen on line 3 to 4 cooling runs to me it seems like a no brainer
While this car was assembled by a skillful Japanese workers, I was in my first grade, the internet was the new thing, the Clinton's were everywhere, and the PS1 just launched. I love the 90's and love the original LS even more.
Hey AMD, have you had any 2013-2015 Lexus GS 350 vehicles in your shop for service and if so, can you give us you’re experience as far as common problems and reliability? Thank you.
The question is are you going to torque any nuts and bolts to spec, or are you going slam them all home (as usual) with impact wrenches out of sheer laziness?
I’m not so sure this is the ultimate LS400. Most people think the UCF10 is the most iconic and in my opinion the UCF21 (98-00) are the better cars. These UCF20 LS400’s have always been the awkward middle child of the first gen LS’s. Still an absolute gem, though.
1. very good job 2. my Toyota is 20 years old. getting much harder to get parts. cannot be without a car for more than a day or two if the car has to be in the shop. still, I have saved many thousands of dollars if the alternative were to buy another car every 4 or 5 years. 3. living in an urban area, it is inevitable that a car gets parking lot rash, so I have a lot of parking lot rash. however, I control the fact that the interior is clean and unstained.
Wow AMD I too had a LS400 before my 430 which I Drove to the Celebration of the unveiling of YOUR 600k mile LS430 We took a picture at the end remember Xanderboy my Cockerspaniel who met everyone there Ok with that Said I am even more excited for this new endeavor and take your time this as well as the previous restoration is Documented for Perpetuity’s sake and for LS Lovers old and new and yet to become ❤❤❤Merry Christmas AMD To you and Yours ,Channel, Staff and Viewership ( I know staff is family as the viewership feels like you are ours ) May GOD BLESS US AND KEEP US ❤AMEN
Like Grand and King Seiko in the 60s, this is the car that made european and american competition cry like babies after they decided to cheat against Japanese industriousness.
When Toyota was trying to solidify its place at the top and suceeded. Toyota is unfortunately just average to slightly above average now. If you don’t agree that’s fine but it’s the truth unfortunately.
Thanks - good fun.

All the way from NJ

Oh boy, I'm ready for this ride. The series you did on the other Lexus was a great journey.
This will be an epic series! But what would be even more epic? A restoration series of Land Cruiser 100! Consider that for the next project:) thanks
I can't thank you enough for these videos. I have a nearly identical car but mine is a 99. Thanks again. I really can't express my gratitude.
It took me two years to get my LS400 up and running. Finding and making parts was the most time consuming, good luck with this one AMD!
Can’t wait! Always loved those vehicles.

I own an exact copy of this car. Had to strip down that boring biege paint and had it repainted Nori Green Pearl.
I for one don’t think it’s boring, and prefer this color. To each their own
I bought a 430 after the 430 resto series, because Ahmed's videos helped me know the car intimately. Might have to get a 400 now ;)
Great video
Your channel is a real oasis in the world of TH-cam. Keep on making us happy with your work!🤸🍨🎰
You got that right my love child!
Is this the million mile Lexus?
I am so excited to be joining the rejuvenating process for this beauty and thank you so much AMD for sharing it with us.
I had a 1993 LS400. You couldn't hear it running in my garage it was that quiet. Funny it wasn't badged LS400 on the trunk
Your videos are always so heartfelt and profound! Thank you for your creativity and your ability to touch the hearts of your viewers!💫💫🔳

There will still be aftermarket parts available. Not as good but still keep you on the road. You can also have your alternator and starter rebuilt.

Wondering if it would have been just as easy as engine out that way you have everything right in front of you ?
You should partner with a bank and auction the finished product

I will have a chai Latte thanks.
What happened to the white one?
What’s the back story on this one, sentimental reasons? Because this job’s going to be extremely expensive

I call my 2011 Toyota Avalon the poor man’s Lexus LS400 And 430. 😂

Why do you have reservation for south africa?
Where would I be able to buy oem toyota parts without going to the dealer? I'm not sure which companies manufacture toyota parts
AMD used parts from eBay, some good, some bad. But still a source.
Conversly googling dismantlers, but stock availability is ??.
Q45s look nicer IMO
