Perfect Circle
(Berry, Buck, Mills, Stipe)
Put your hair back, we get to leave
Eleven shadows on your sleeve
Shallow figure, winner's paid
Eleven shadows way out of place
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room
Pull your dress on and stay real close
Who might leave you where I left off?
A perfect circle of acquaintances and friends
Drink another, coin a phrase
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room
Try to win and suit your needs
Speak out sometimes but try to win
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room
Heaven assumed, shoulders high in the room
Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room
Standing too soon, shoulders high in the room

I wrote “R.E. M.” on all of my book-covers in high school in the mid/early eighties. I developed the greatest group of friends by doing that. Saw the Reckoning, Life’ Pageant, Fables, etc tours with those same great friends. We formed a great band in high school and used to play covers of everything REM. Life was great.
we are peers
The same, the same, the same! Such wonderful memories! 😀 Saw the Document tour at the Fox in Atlanta in in 87
Neglected to credit Bill Berry as having written this song, so . . .
Saw them in ‘89 at Notre Dame as a sophomore in high school
I heard them live many times. Saw them in Athens when they popped up on stage at the 40 Watt or other bars. Went to many concerts in Atlanta at The Fox and symphony hall. Always magical.
Was there, they went under a different name
OMG another gem. Love it ❤
Those background melodies put this over the top for me. Just a fantastic song.
Me too, I think it makes it sound better than the original.
I love rem so much.esp.the voice of michael stipe is veŕy unique
And those high notes by Mike Mills! Damn!
Perfect circle ? More like Perfect song..
why couldn't they put this version on the album? Far superior (in my opinion anyway).
100% agree. I actually heard this version before I bought the album and was a bit deflated that it didn't sound as good (in my opinion)
Definitely, I love the piano in this version.
Greatest band of all time. Just brilliant
What an amazing song that changed so many people's lives over the years. Astounding how well it sounds back in the early days.
This was my wedding song - I got married in a courthouse in 1991. It makes me happy and sad, my husband died in 2005.
We saw REM together twice in 1995, they are still one of my favorite bands.
Aw.... 🫂
We have the memories please keep rocking! They are great live
One of my favorite REM songs!
Possibly their greatest ❤.
Delicate, melancholy, poignant.
Apparently it was inspired by a moment when they were touring back in the Chronic Town period and Peter and Michael were on a pier overlooking a beach and Peter just started crying, and couldn't say why. That's the vibe of this song: beautiful sadness
Not to bum you out,at it's most beautiful,I played this at my Father and Brothers memorial,so fitting
holy fuck, imagine seeing this live
Like a spiritual experience of truth and beauty
Everyone in the audience that night was extremely lucky!
I did 3 times.
Such a creative force was this band.
Ipnotica..!! Grazie R.E.M.
Drink another coin a phrase. Brilliant!
Love them ❤
They are all translators of emotion. 👑
Nailed it you did keep rocking!
Amazing!
