Imagine if your state decided that, in order for you to speak in public, you need to be issued a permit. The 5th ammendment has lead to the enforcement of police needing to read people their Miranda rights, for example. If the 2nd amendment can lead to that, who's to say the 1st, 4th, 5th & 6th amendments can't be subjected to the same thing? They have to prioritize. Their clerks summarize the issues for them to read every day. The magazine case opinion if not affirmed nullifies the pistol bans. In addition, no other constitutional right requires fees and roadblocks depending on the state of residence or where you travel.
Look what they did in other countries and the UK
I am surprised they took the Corporate Transparency Act so quicky since the new congress and president will almost certainly reverse that when they get in and the 5th Circuit made the correct ruling. Maybe they want to send a message, but it seems like a waste of time.
"...shall not be infringed, except that states may require training classes, bonds, finger prints, background check, a $50 fee, and your first born son or daughter."
So does that mean not hearing the MD shall issue was resisted or could be brought up and heard in a future term?
SCOTUS used to take almost double the amount of cases every year. As recently as 15 years ago...
Playing Devil’s advocate, is it 1:1? Or are the opinions now longer and broader today compared to then?
@DireAvenger001 is actually the opposite, today's opinions are more limited in scope in my non-lawyer opinion.
Money racket
All that MD stuff feels very anti-Bruen.
4 hour course? That's cute. I'm taking my 18 hour course this weekend.
For CCL here in illinois, I had to take two 8 hour classes (so 16 hours)... we learned the basics of illinois laws firearm laws and when you can/should use your firearm, and even did proficiency training, but learning the intricacies of the illinois laws for it is pretty much a all you kind of thing...
Though most people here tend to not really take the time to learn those things, and I actually encourage people that live here that have gotten their CCL, to do their due diligence for the fine points and intricacies of firearm laws here and when you can/should use, that way they know with certainty of whether or not they will lose or win a case should one be brought against them if they have to use it to defend themself or others... I'm not saying become a law professor on the topic but one should learn what illinois will prosecute for and for you to make it less likely to be prosecuted for should you HAVE to use yours
That's not for a " Carry " License , That's just to be able to Purchase .
Maryland 's Wear & Carry License is a separate 16hr training .
@@MrEli768 agreed, just should absolutely not be mandatory. let alone to even own a handgun.
Maryland tyrants being tyrants.
As a marylander, this is highly disappointing.
I don't know how it is everywhere, but where I live, If I am required to wear a uniform by my employer, or have a cell phone, attend a mandatory meeting or training, etc. my employer is required to cover that cost. If a state is requiring me to get a license of any kind to exercise a right, be it a firearms license w/required training, a driver's license, or state trade licenses... shouldn't those done at the state's expense? I'm all for requiring training, there are far too many idiots on and off the range these days, but shouldn't it be at the state's expense?
The states expense is YOUR expense. Jesus Bro.
