So, here's a fun fact: Elena Siegman, the vocalist for every song she's in, has never really done any harsh vocals, until 115. She sang in World At War for Lullaby For A Deadman, The One, and Beauty Of Annihilation. However, for Beauty Of Annihilation, Kevin used vocal synthesizers to give Elena those harsh sound vocals. But it wasn't until Black Ops 1, where Kevin asked Elena to actually scream for the first song for the Zombies mode. When she did it, everyone laughed, including her, since no one expected her to go full heavy screaming on her own. So since then, up until a few songs later, she's been doing the screams herself.
To give an explanation to why Zombies’ music is like this, Each COD game has 3 modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and a 3rd mode. When Treyarch develops, they always make a Zombies mode, and this is where all their passion and creativity comes out from making COD. Campaign and Multiplayer are obligations of every COD game, but Zombies is always special for being a passion project with gameplay, characters, story, and OST that feel very creative and very unlike the game that they are attached to. Basically, Treyarch’s fun and creativity comes out when creating each game’s Zombies mode, hence why the OST can feel very detached from the main game they are apart of.

I’ve been looking forward to COD Zombies music eventually coming up. Kevin Sherwood is great, he’s been composing these hard hitting tracks for Treyarch since COD World at War back in 2008. Every COD Zombies map has one of his songs as an Easter egg, that plays when you activate a few objects around the map e.g teddy bears. Experiencing these songs in game is a whole different experience, they really hype you up and almost make you feel like it’s impossible to go down.
Ah, nostalgia… as someone who… cannot stand Call of Duty past the original release of Modern Warfare 3, putting it lightly, holy shit is it nice to hear you react to this. This was my teen days, Zombies was the primary reason I played both Black Ops and Black Ops 2. Hope that anonymous doner included some of the other original songs for Zombies.
Avenged Sevenfold actually made some songs for Black Ops specifically, they made two in particular for Zombies called Not Ready to Die and Mad Hatter which are both really great songs!
I don’t know how to exactly describe it but Treyarch's COD games always have that more "raw" feel to them. Heavy metal OSTs, way more blood and gore, more in-depth stories, zombies, it all gives the Black Ops series its own distinct identity to the Infinity Ward or Sledgehammer games.
This song plays in the game once you activate a easter egg, by collecting 3 stones around the map. i always activated it at the start of a round to make it most fun.
You had to activate the song by round at least 30+ cause that’s when you had a huge hoard of zombies, just chasing you around. And for those that played the game, y’all know what I mean when I say, run from the screecher and Fire Zombie. Elena saying La at the end was always mesmerizing as it follows the name of the map “Shangri-La”. And that piano was the cherry on top
Hell yeah, Idk who recommended Pareidolia but they’re awesome. It’s super underrated compared to the other CoD songs and personally it’s my favorite. I also really love “Always Running” it has a very different vibe though.
I honestly don’t see how the music in campaigns aren’t remembered. MW2’s OST like Of Their Own Accord, Green Flares, and The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday by Lorne Balfe are amazing. Black Ops and World at War have amazing tracks like Rooftops, Pentagon, Hells Gate, and Black Cats by Sean Murray all kick hard. The old Call of Duty’s all had amazing soundtracks some still do. Even something like Infinite Warfare have gems like Entropic Universe.

This is such a great song. It was triggered on the map called Kino der Toten (theater of the dead) by the player, if they found and activated 3 meteor pieces (containing the element 115) hidden around the map. This song in its entirety would play as you killed zombies, and it was a guaranteed way to inspire your teammates. I saw, time and time again without fail, my teammates suddenly get a bump in efficiency and survivability, as soon as this song came on. And as a fun note, it always blew my teammates minds when they had no idea it existed, and I triggered it for them for the first time. I miss the early Call of Duty days. Making me all nostalgic. 🤣
i dont really have much to add that hasnt been said already, but zombies music is seriously slept on when it comes to video game OSTs and imo is some of the best from the ps3/360 era. There's def a huge nostalgia factor to it, but i still think it all holds up greatly today and i still listen to it from time to time and am always amazed at how good it all is. Whether is Elena, Malukah, trent reznor, or aveneged sevenfold; Kevin and everyone else does a phenomenal job at capturing the high octane energy we felt as kids fighting undead nightmares. As well as flesh out the atmosphere and story of the zombie storyline that is still going on to this day.
Treyarch were indeed the main developer of zombies and they were the ones who made it a success, they created an insane storyline through Easter Eggs inside most of the maps and a lot of clues and info they gave outside the game. They created a very interesting world that explained everything that happened inside the maps, it's one of the main reasons why I love the mode so much and it's so nostalgic thinking about it

One cool detail is that in the first 2 COD games to have Zombies, the "Game Over" music for each map was always the opening instrumental of the easter egg song for the next map release. For instance, 115 from Black Ops here could be heard when everybody dies in Der Riese (The Giant), the last Zombies map for COD World at War (115 played for Kino Der Toten of Black Ops, which was the first map in that game)
like a little fun fact, all black ops old school zombies maps (black ops 2, black ops 1 and world at war) use the same metal songs with a short version like an game over. By example, 115 is playing when you die in Der Rise from Call of Duty World at War, and pareidolia is playing when you die in Ascension from Call of Duty Black Ops 1. That's it because the developers made it like an spoiler of the next map that would be released, and you can actually hear the entire songs versions like an easter egg if you find some especific objects (teddy bears and meteorites in general)
115 was a secret song in BO1 Zombies on the map Kino Der Toten. If you interacted with 3 hidden meteorite fragments this song would start playing, and all of them where in different sections you had to unlock so it was an achievement to be able to pull this off, and after you did you where usually late enough in the game that it made it feel like you where playing DOOM

Almost all of the zombies songs are like this, and they are easter eggs you can find on the map when you play and listen to these bangers while killing zombies it's a very awesome and unique expirience
A thing about zombies songs is that they are easter eggs in each zombies map, to listen to them you usually need to find 3 things around the map, sometimes its teddy bears sometimes glowing rocks, its the same object but is different from map to map, to find them you need to hear a sound kinda like an alien wave sound, you press the interact button on each one and boom, you get a shot of adrenaline listening to the song while surviving zombie rounds. Theres a total of 28 songs on Kevins youtube playlist so theres a lot of flavors to choose from, all bangers
Goodness gracious, I had no idea what I was in for clicking this! I next to never play Call of Duty and I imagined something way slower paced. The first song's vocals completely caught me off guard and I was enamored by those drums.
Last song like this was for the second zombies map of Cod Cold War, they stopped after unfortunately but I really hope it gets back for cod black ops 6. For me zombies mode has always been the most creative side of those games
The song was great when I listened to it since little! The lyrics of the song: "115" actually talks from the POV of Samantha, which I will not explain the lore of zombies because it is such a mess. But basically Samantha is the responsible for controlling all zombies in Black Ops 1 maps because his father told her to: "Kill anyone" in revenge for what Richtofen (One of the 4 characters that you get to play) do to both Samantha and her father (Which is also the reason why she has the power to control all zombies. Because of what Richtofen did to her).
Something really cool about pareidola zombies song is there is a certain part of the song that if played backwards some people say it sounds like she says save me Moses which hearing things that aren't there backwards is a part of pareidolia
Thank you for reacting to this one. I would love to hear more Cod zombie songs reactions. I watched an interview with Kevin Sherwood and Elana Seigman. Back when zombies was a very novel idea in Cod World at War, the sound designer, Keven Sherwood wrote a few game over rifts and was suggested to add lyrics and make them full songs. One of the producers, Elena Siegman, knew how to sing so she started doing the lyrics for him. They continued doing all the hidden Easter egg songs through all of black ops as well. The theme of many of the BO1 songs ties into the zombies storyline, specifically Samantha, a girl who got trapped in an ancient artifact which corrupts the soul and allows her to control zombies reanimated by element 115. She is sort of the antagonist, trying to use the zombies to kill a scientist responsible for what happened to her and anyone else who gets in her way.
most of Kevin Sherwoods music in COD is Zombies related. and zombies had and still has a big community thanks to the songs and the easter eggs/story of the mode
I think the reason pareidolia was chosen is because of the nature of zombies? Since it began World at War there was never meant to be a story really when it launched with the game, and the first dlc map also didnt have much going for it, but because the community WANTED there to be something more there, something unintended, by the time the second dlc came out thats when the story started. In the beginning people thought one of the sounds zombies would make was like they were saying Sam, and so by the 4th map in WaW Sam became a character you could hear about in recordings left around, and went onto became a major character for the entire series, so people perceived something where there was nothing so hard that it ended up becoming something, kinda insane when you think about it. Also starting in bo1 there was hidden quests in the maps that would deliver more up front story with voice acting and such, but to do the steps to progress it was almost always some otherwise nonsensical stuff to interact with inside the maps, so in that sense of the mystery of it all I think the community had a sense of... pareidolia?
The thing about the first Black ops is that it’s probably one of the most darkest COD games other than world at war. Thats why it’s very different from the other COD games
One of my favorite aspects of the easter egg songs is that many of them reveal details about the overarching story of Zombies, some of them are self contained and make sense to listen to on their own, others make explicit references to past songs Carrion from Tranzit in BO2 directly calls back to like, 5 different songs at least, it even contains answers to the riddles posed in Abracadavre from Ascension in BO1! This particular niche space in the Zombies community is pretty cool

Every zombies map has a "easter egg song" which is a real song, artists like Skrillex, Avenged sevenfold, and even Eminem has a song in zombies. most of them are produced in house by Kevin and sometimes others like Elena, but I believe Kevin does the guitars and drums himself.
I am SO glad you reacted to 115. I usually don't listen to this kind of songs, but there's something about the COD Zombie OST that is just so good I can't help but love it, and I've listened to it for years now. 115 is an easter egg song from the map Kino Der Toten, one of the first maps ever made for the Zombie mod back in the first Black Ops game. To activate it, you have to find 3 meteorite fragments hidden around the map and interact with them, and it starts the song. In fact, most songs with lyrics in COD Zombie are easter songs activated in similar ways. There are a few other songs I love from the game, like "Where are we going" from Blood of The Dead (especially the remix, used in the remake of the map in Black Ops 4), or the Beauty of Annihilation remix from the map The Giant in BO3.

If you decide to continue doing cod zombies there have been multiple singers in certain games but i especially reccomend archangel from the map origins which features all of them (also clark s nova is an underrated singer for the soundtracks and he always knocks it out of the park)

It plays when you interacted with three meteorite pieces containing element 115 (pronounced as one-one-five) hidden around the map. In fact, most if not all treyarch maps feature such a song. The map "Five" for example features a song from the Slim Shady himself.
Something cool would be to go through all of the “Damned” zombie themes from every game and watch how it changes from game to game. “Damned” is the main zombies theme and arguably (not so arguably) the most iconic song from zombies, so they have remade the song or at least sampled the main theme for every game going forward. (There is also a sample of “Damned” in the Avenged Sevenfold song “Not Ready to Die” 4:40 - 5:27)

Majority of the tracks use an 8 string tuned to either 3 of these tunings: 1st tuning - EADGCFAd; 2nd tuning - DADGCFAd; 3rd tuning - C#ADGCFAd. There is also another one that has the low 8th tuned to an A0, so it was an octave lower than the 7th string, it was used for the track "Carrion" from the map "Tranzit". Edit: Pareidolia uses that 3rd tuning I mentioned.
115 is the goat of Call of Duty Zombies' O.S.T. Arguably, the greatest zombie map of all time is Kino der toten. It is simple and easy to learn if you want to pick up zombies again. Black Ops one. It's also the home of 115.
if you do more, Archangel and Abracadavre have to be the next ones. Amazing solos, riffs, drumming, etc. Instrumentation for both are insane and better than a lot of metal tracks i've heard.
The call of duty soundtracks are heavily underrated because it's such a mainstream series but the composers are insanely talented and care a lot about the music and sound design of the games
The VTuber called OBKATIEKAT did a cover of 115 with fellow VTuber Froot, personally, I like that version quite a bit more. But, I love that song completely.
I think a lot of the black ops zombies songs are worth a listen. I am mostly familiar with the ones that appeared in black ops one but with treyarch zombies each map had an easter egg song that could be activated by finding 3 of a specific item depending on the map and it would play these songs. There was also a stage where the song was an eminem song and avenged sevenfold as well. I would recommend just going in order.
Dude, i highly recommend to listen to most, if not all Cod Zombies EE Songs, but one of my favorites is Carrion, its from Black Ops 2 from the zombie map Tranzit. They are really good.
Everyone Dies Everyone Lies Their Waiting For The Second Coming Again. Meaning the Aether Crew and Ultimus Crew had to die to stop the cycle and the spread of Element 115 and the zombies I followed the story the 10 years it ran it was incredible but sad when it ended the songs are referring to events in the game and storyline
Cod zombies soundtrack is so good, only like 2 songs are not that good compared to the others but Kevin Sherwood is a very talented person, he usually does everything minus the vocals in the songs, he only brings another musician when he cant play a part that is very complicated, kinda like Unseen ones from Hades, i strongly suggest you keep an eye on the zombies songs they are very very good songs
The Black Ops series has always been the series favorite I would assume for most, but at least most definitely for me. You should listen to the theme for BO2 and adrenaline.

By example, 115 is playing when you die in Der Rise from Call of Duty World at War, and pareidolia is playing when you die in Ascension from Call of Duty Black Ops 1. That's it because the developers made it like an spoiler of the next map that would be released, and you can actually hear the entire songs versions like an easter egg if you find some especific objects (teddy bears and meteorites in general)
115 was a secret song in BO1 Zombies on the map Kino Der Toten. If you interacted with 3 hidden meteorite fragments this song would start playing, and all of them where in different sections you had to unlock so it was an achievement to be able to pull this off, and after you did you where usually late enough in the game that it made it feel like you where playing DOOM
sorry to break the beauty of 115 comments, but god, i haven't heard 115 in YEARS! so good on its own, and so great in-game. the first music easter egg i activated was on the first COD game with a zombies mode, World at War, and the song was called "Beauty of Annihilation." that song BANGS

Almost all of the zombies songs are like this, and they are easter eggs you can find on the map when you play and listen to these bangers while killing zombies it's a very awesome and unique expirience
115 is such a nostalgic song, I still listen to it occasionally to this day haha
A thing about zombies songs is that they are easter eggs in each zombies map, to listen to them you usually need to find 3 things around the map, sometimes its teddy bears sometimes glowing rocks, its the same object but is different from map to map, to find them you need to hear a sound kinda like an alien wave sound, you press the interact button on each one and boom, you get a shot of adrenaline listening to the song while surviving zombie rounds. Theres a total of 28 songs on Kevins youtube playlist so theres a lot of flavors to choose from, all bangers
Goodness gracious, I had no idea what I was in for clicking this! I next to never play Call of Duty and I imagined something way slower paced. The first song's vocals completely caught me off guard and I was enamored by those drums.
Last song like this was for the second zombies map of Cod Cold War, they stopped after unfortunately but I really hope it gets back for cod black ops 6. For me zombies mode has always been the most creative side of those games
The song was great when I listened to it since little! The lyrics of the song: "115" actually talks from the POV of Samantha, which I will not explain the lore of zombies because it is such a mess. But basically Samantha is the responsible for controlling all zombies in Black Ops 1 maps because his father told her to: "Kill anyone" in revenge for what Richtofen (One of the 4 characters that you get to play) do to both Samantha and her father (Which is also the reason why she has the power to control all zombies. Because of what Richtofen did to her).
Something really cool about pareidola zombies song is there is a certain part of the song that if played backwards some people say it sounds like she says save me Moses which hearing things that aren't there backwards is a part of pareidolia
Cod zombies has more songs that play during easter egg steps and cutscenes that relate to the story.

I watched an interview with Kevin Sherwood and Elana Seigman. Back when zombies was a very novel idea in Cod World at War, the sound designer, Keven Sherwood wrote a few game over rifts and was suggested to add lyrics and make them full songs.
One of the producers, Elena Siegman, knew how to sing so she started doing the lyrics for him.
They continued doing all the hidden Easter egg songs through all of black ops as well.
The theme of many of the BO1 songs ties into the zombies storyline, specifically Samantha, a girl who got trapped in an ancient artifact which corrupts the soul and allows her to control zombies reanimated by element 115. She is sort of the antagonist, trying to use the zombies to kill a scientist responsible for what happened to her and anyone else who gets in her way.
most of Kevin Sherwoods music in COD is Zombies related. and zombies had and still has a big community thanks to the songs and the easter eggs/story of the mode
I think the reason pareidolia was chosen is because of the nature of zombies? Since it began World at War there was never meant to be a story really when it launched with the game, and the first dlc map also didnt have much going for it, but because the community WANTED there to be something more there, something unintended, by the time the second dlc came out thats when the story started. In the beginning people thought one of the sounds zombies would make was like they were saying Sam, and so by the 4th map in WaW Sam became a character you could hear about in recordings left around, and went onto became a major character for the entire series, so people perceived something where there was nothing so hard that it ended up becoming something, kinda insane when you think about it. Also starting in bo1 there was hidden quests in the maps that would deliver more up front story with voice acting and such, but to do the steps to progress it was almost always some otherwise nonsensical stuff to interact with inside the maps, so in that sense of the mystery of it all I think the community had a sense of... pareidolia?
The thing about the first Black ops is that it’s probably one of the most darkest COD games other than world at war. Thats why it’s very different from the other COD games
One of my favorite aspects of the easter egg songs is that many of them reveal details about the overarching story of Zombies, some of them are self contained and make sense to listen to on their own, others make explicit references to past songs
Carrion from Tranzit in BO2 directly calls back to like, 5 different songs at least, it even contains answers to the riddles posed in Abracadavre from Ascension in BO1! This particular niche space in the Zombies community is pretty cool
Just incase you haven't heard. Every zombies map has a "easter egg song" which is a real song, artists like Skrillex, Avenged sevenfold, and even Eminem has a song in zombies.
most of them are produced in house by Kevin and sometimes others like Elena, but I believe Kevin does the guitars and drums himself.

I am SO glad you reacted to 115. I usually don't listen to this kind of songs, but there's something about the COD Zombie OST that is just so good I can't help but love it, and I've listened to it for years now. 115 is an easter egg song from the map Kino Der Toten, one of the first maps ever made for the Zombie mod back in the first Black Ops game. To activate it, you have to find 3 meteorite fragments hidden around the map and interact with them, and it starts the song. In fact, most songs with lyrics in COD Zombie are easter songs activated in similar ways. There are a few other songs I love from the game, like "Where are we going" from Blood of The Dead (especially the remix, used in the remake of the map in Black Ops 4), or the Beauty of Annihilation remix from the map The Giant in BO3.

Edit: My favorite CoD overall is 100% Black Ops 2 as it had a great campaign, multiplayer, and good zombies overall. For zombies mode specifically though I'd have to go with Black Ops 3 as the base maps and numerous modded maps are great fun. Speaking of BO2 though I wonder if Adrenaline will show up eventually
If you decide to continue doing cod zombies there have been multiple singers in certain games but i especially reccomend archangel from the map origins which features all of them (also clark s nova is an underrated singer for the soundtracks and he always knocks it out of the park)

The first song is an Easter Egg inside the map called "Kino der Toten", which was in the games "World at War", "Black Ops 1" and "Black Ops 3". It plays when you interacted with three meteorite pieces containing element 115 (pronounced as one-one-five) hidden around the map. In fact, most if not all treyarch maps feature such a song. The map "Five" for example features a song from the Slim Shady himself.
Something cool would be to go through all of the “Damned” zombie themes from every game and watch how it changes from game to game. “Damned” is the main zombies theme and arguably (not so arguably) the most iconic song from zombies, so they have remade the song or at least sampled the main theme for every game going forward. (There is also a sample of “Damned” in the Avenged Sevenfold song “Not Ready to Die” 4:40 - 5:27)

Majority of the tracks use an 8 string tuned to either 3 of these tunings: 1st tuning - EADGCFAd; 2nd tuning - DADGCFAd; 3rd tuning - C#ADGCFAd. There is also another one that has the low 8th tuned to an A0, so it was an octave lower than the 7th string, it was used for the track "Carrion" from the map "Tranzit".
Edit: Pareidolia uses that 3rd tuning I mentioned.

Arguably, the greatest zombie map of all time is Kino der toten. It is simple and easy to learn if you want to pick up zombies again. Black Ops one. It's also the home of 115.

I think a lot of the black ops zombies songs are worth a listen. I am mostly familiar with the ones that appeared in black ops one but with treyarch zombies each map had an easter egg song that could be activated by finding 3 of a specific item depending on the map and it would play these songs. There was also a stage where the song was an eminem song and avenged sevenfold as well. I would recommend just going in order.
Dude, i highly recommend to listen to most, if not all Cod Zombies EE Songs, but one of my favorites is Carrion, its from Black Ops 2 from the zombie map Tranzit. They are really good.

Cod zombies soundtrack is so good, only like 2 songs are not that good compared to the others but Kevin Sherwood is a very talented person, he usually does everything minus the vocals in the songs, he only brings another musician when he cant play a part that is very complicated, kinda like Unseen ones from Hades, i strongly suggest you keep an eye on the zombies songs they are very very good songs
The Black Ops series has always been the series favorite I would assume for most, but at least most definitely for me. You should listen to the theme for BO2 and adrenaline.
