Hello from my homestead in northwest Florida! Your video popped up in my recommended videos, I'm glad it did. I am zone 8b so our growing seasons are very different but we all love our gardens! Your community garden is absolutely beautifully bountiful! I enjoyed the garden tour!
Thank you for your lovely comment. Yes our Zones are different. I continue to learn from other gardening how to maximize my crop within the Zone i am in. Hope your garden is thriving.
I’ve learned I have hope in the garden. I’m not doing too bad for my first year. Looking forward to composting and maybe a keyhole garden for next year. Will work on plans for growing garlic next weekend also.
I love every moment of this video will share with my family and friends. This where I want my garden to be. God Bless you and your garden🙏🏽💚Great information. I subscribed
Such a diverse garden,Im also growing ground cherries, its a tasty snack. Im interested in the yellow variety of your garden egg (eggplant?) Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching. By the time i could snack on my ground cherries most were rotten. Maybe i need to harvest them sooner. The eggplant you mentioned is one of the many varieties of the African eggplant. i planted over 3 species. This is a small, bitter, long-shaped eggplant. It is eaten often usually when green. When it turns orange you can also make soup with it boiled or in a tomato sauce. Also, when the fruit is orange it is at the point when the seeds have fully ripened. It’s also eaten as medicine for fevers or malaria. Some pregnant women snack on it raw to help with excess saliva.
Great video!! Thanks for posting. Is the community garden in your backyard? Looks like you have large enough property to have in ground gated garden space just as beautiful as the raised beds. It would be nice to walk out your door & have everything at your fingertips tips. Your teaching is a blessing! I've watched all your videos new subscriber.
Welcome and thanks for subscribing and watching. I have a backyard and a community garden as well. I agree it is convenient to be able to walk to the backyard garden and harvest, especially herbs which i love cooking with.
I wanted to ask what is garden egg please? What is the texture and flavour ? Is it like capsicum bell pepper? Can you roast it or stir fry or blister the skin peel the charred skin and eat with olive oil, good quality salt flakes and cream cheese and chillies
I grew more than 3 different African eggplant varieties. They can be eaten raw often and usually when green. The long oval one can turn orange with which you can also make soup with. I steam them, chop roughly, then add to fried tomatoe and onion sauce. You can add any protein of choice often smoked fish in the traditional African home. The gardenegg sauce can be eaten with boiled Yams or Plantains etc. Also, when the fruit is orange, it is at the point when the seeds have fully ripened. It’s also eaten as medicine for fevers or malaria. some pregnant women eaten them raw to help with excess saliva and offset the taste in the mouth common in pregnancy.
Great question. Yes i planted Taro for the leaves, Carrots, beet root, Parsnips, Celery root. most of these are in my back yard garden. What growing Zone are you in here in the U.S. ? Thanks for watching
great question. about 500ml warm water, 3-5 drops oil, little dish soap in a spray bottle. it works best when applied to insects on the plant when they are very young. it suffocates them and affects their growth too. it does not affect the plant, it makes the plant unattractive for pests & works in 3-5 days. we applied this several times early in the growing season to address the pest invasion early on. hope this is helpful.

It’s an eggplant, very tasty.

Do you grow root vegetable ? Carrots, parsnips, winter radish, swede(ruttabager)turnips,
Also do you grow kohl rabi?celeriac, taro, bulb fennell.?
Great question. Yes i planted Taro for the leaves, Carrots, beet root, Parsnips, Celery root. most of these are in my back yard garden. What growing Zone are you in here in the U.S. ? Thanks for watching
Do u sell seeds, there are plants I never heard off. I am in 7B NYC
only waterleaf and garden huckleberry. i might have more seeds next season.
I heard you talk of spraying your cabbages with Neem oil. How do you do it?
great question. about 500ml warm water, 3-5 drops oil, little dish soap in a spray bottle. it works best when applied to insects on the plant when they are very young. it suffocates them and affects their growth too. it does not affect the plant, it makes the plant unattractive for pests & works in 3-5 days. we applied this several times early in the growing season to address the pest invasion early on. hope this is helpful.
