I found a giant piece of jet on a sand bar in North Carolina

I have a couple of lumps of something that I believed were jet, but after hearing how its made I'm questioning it. It's rock solid, not flaky or soft at all, and its pretty damn black, you wont get much darker than that. But I found it under some floor boards in a house built in either the 1500's or 1600's maybe 1400's but I don't think so, point is it was old. I picked it up because I thought it was petrified wood, I thought it was cool. They're not shaped or anything, just look like broken bits of wood but jet black. The house was in Kent, England. Anyone have any idea what it is? Is it jet?

Just saw this video, I got wanted a stone for my Aches and pains. A guy in the gem store sold me ocean jet.
But I didn’t know a thing about it.
