I always think of the BMW airheads as the golden retrievers of the cycle world...

You have a nice bike. I have a 1975 R90/6 in red which I have had over 20 years and has now been ridden around the clock including trips to the South of France, Germany and Scotland. I also have twin discs and the San Jose fork brace but the original 22 litre petrol tank. I have twin-plugged mine which is an improvement

My 1975 R90/6 has some similarities to yours. When it came time for a top end overhaul i went ahead with the Siebenrock 1000cc kit. At the same time i switched from points to the Alpha digital ignition and the Enduralast 450W alternator. I have the lightened flywheel and a 32/10 final drive. Final touch was to add a Hannigan ST fairing. These are such great bikes to ride and take care of. Thanks for sharing your ride.

the BMW touring clubs in Australia did incredible things with the /5, even off road. Active members still own them. They had a great reliability record in their day

Very cool. Its inspiring to see how much pride you take in setting up your airhead. Makes me want to do the same.

Great video I have had a number of Airheads over the years then got rid of all my airhead stuff in 2001. That lasted about 4 year, I had to get another and a nice low mile 1983 R80RT without fairing became available so I jumped on it! I’ve 2 more airheads since then. I’ve Never lost money on an airhead! Simple, capable, and versatile; they handles dirt, gravel, oil/chip, pavement, interstates and twisties equally well! I like how you set yours up. I used to use the same windshield. Now I run a Parabellum Windscreen as it easier and fast to take off or put on.

Jay Grafton they do grow on ya. I have looked at the scout fairing, but just haven’t let go of the money yet. I’ve also thought about a repop S fairing but decided the bars wouldn’t work well with it. So far the spitfire has worked out. I’ve had them in the shop for years, I have two. Don’t even know where I got them from. I assume off of bikes that have passed through.

Thanks man glad you liked it, I plan on dieting one with the Superglide and HT panniers. I would like to wait on the custom fuel cell to be made, but I may just have to do that part as an update.

I’m buying a 78 r100/7. I’m hoping for the same light duties for off-road. I hope I can manage with it.

Cool project. For a couple years considering repurposing a 77 R100 into adventure. Dual sports I have are miserable to ride to trails. What tires you running? Shocks bottom out?

Joe Cephus the seat pan is off a klr cut to length, foam and cover is from a custom r1150gs seat and I made the mounting bracket for the rear and used two part epoxy to make the bond. The front of the seat was heated up with a heat gun until shiny and bent to shape then allowed to cool.
