      Plenty of spots that contain enough land for multiple people to hunt safely and effectively. I know places where 5 trucks can be parked and you'll still never run into anyone. Point being, not all spots are limited to just one hunter.

    • @bottomlineoutdoors3985
      @bottomlineoutdoors3985 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First off. Florida is the one place where everyone has to park in the same spot to dump into 60k acres. Second, it’s clearly National Forest that has tons of acres. He patiently waited listening for others. Both parties moved in on a gobbling turkey from clearly different directions. You don’t know where the second party was parked at. Video doesn’t describe it or is it explained. Next point is Dave has prior videos of laying off a turkey someone was on. Next point is these kids never even called to the turkey until Dave hit the call already sitting down. The reality is that is turkey hunting. It makes it dangerous. It’s concerning but its hard to see in the video. The reality is everyone’s video only gives one angle. How do you know these kids ignore the call and just keep trucking towards the gobbler? You don’t. You acting like your perfect isn’t changing anything. He surely isn’t listening to you either

  • @chadappleton7196
    @chadappleton7196 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m late to the party on this one. Admittedly, I have kinda sworn off of THP & Pinhoti Project videos because I don’t want to help perpetuate a phenomenon I believe is killing our public land turkey hunting. I am weak though and get bored at times while waiting on the season to get here and at least search out the videos where Dave hunts in my stomping grounds.
    With that said, I just found this video last night. I do understand some of the aspects of what Dave is doing, when you’re kinda waiting around for rookie turkey hunters to lose interest and/or bump a turkey and quit so you can hang around and get on him when they leave hopefully.
    With that said, there is one thing that is absolutely NOT TRUE that he stated. This particular bowl is NOT the only public land piece within 30 minutes. There is literally land Dave could have walked across the road and hunted, leaving these particular turkeys to the two trucks who were there first. Second, there is not a whole lot of room. You’re GOING to end up on the same turkey with someone if you go in on top of them like Dave did. I know these kids are rookies and not much threat to kill a turkey, but I know their family members and they are great people. Granted, they had obviously walked off the mountain but they were hearing that turkey, had not left, and were giving him another whirl. Had the roles been reversed, Dave would have pitched a FIT if someone who came in after him slid in and shot a turkey he was fooling with. The sum total of this hunt doesn’t sit well with me at all. I’ll go ahead and tell you RIGHT NOW Dave, if I or one of my friends beat you there and you do the same thing, it’s probably not gonna end the same.

    • @chadappleton7196
      @chadappleton7196 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is also a totally different tract a 5 minute drive away he could have gone to, along with another maybe 10 minutes away.

    • @pinhotiproject
      @pinhotiproject  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well either you're ill informed or just wanting to appear to know more than you actually do. Therefore, I think you should reword your post to say, "I seek out hunts where Dave hunts my stomping grounds so I can try to pick it apart and attempt to make him seem like a dishonest person" because maybe I've missed it but I don't remember seeing comments with any positivity from you, even from way back- always a negative twist. So, maybe it's a good idea for you to remain "sworn off" TH-cam videos? They only seem to anger you. But I do appreciate your view/ minutes watched/ etc.
      If you actually watched the video, you'll notice where I stated one person was walking into the woods on the other side of the road when I approached hence the reason I chose the side I did. Not knowing where the other hunters were I chose to spend literal HOURS sitting from a high point and listening, surveying the situation and in reality not expecting to do much hunting. Admittedly instead of a straight walk out, I took the long route- to scout and work my way out since I'd not heard a peep from a human (or turkey) all morning. The young men later told me they'd walked over the mountain and were on the complete other side, I'd been safe to hunt the area like it was mine. But who could have known? I didn't. So I chose to observe and play it safe. I can only wish if someone joined me at a gate they'd be so courteous and I'd never assume they wouldn't be. Also, if you think there is public ground 5 minutes away from this location- it's obvious you're on the "wrong page."
      But I will agree, the young men were very respectful and seemed like great people (don't know anything about their people but spoke to his brother at the NWTF show). I never said anything different. And I've spoke to them several times through messenger since then. And I don't know why you'd not consider them a threat to killing a turkey, they'd already taken several from that area that season even. Which is why I've never gone back.
      So here's your TOTAL SUM. . . no one (me nor the young guys who encroached on a gobbler being worked whether they knew it or not) had or have a problem with this hunt, only you. So considering it isn't your hunt, your turkey, your property or frankly anything that you had the slightest involvement with- try finding something that does sit well with you to watch.

    • @chadappleton7196
      @chadappleton7196 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pinhotiproject Not gonna dive into all of that. I have said tons of positive things to and about you online. I’ll say another right now: I think you’re the best turkey hunter who ever lived. Hence, my intrigue on watching you hunt the same turkeys. You challenge me to be a better turkey hunter and for that part, I’m thankful.
      On all the other stuff, I will be brief but these things are indisputable IMHO:
      1. I know precisely where you parked and I know the land on both sides of the road very well. My apologies for missing your statement that you saw someone going across the road and avoiding that side accordingly. I agree that wasn’t an option for you. But the part that it would be 30 minutes to the next tract of public is simply NOT TRUE. It is not 5 minutes as I generalized in my original comment, but I just looked at it on Google Maps. It is definitely between 5 and 10 minutes, so not to give too awful much detail online. It was an excuse on video for the fact that you decided to go in regardless of who was there.
      2. You got there way too late to coordinate with people to ensure everyone can hunt respectfully. And decided you were going in regardless of the trucks and the unknowns. I get what you’re saying on surveying the situation totally (what if they don’t call a time until a turkey gobbles? I know a slew of people who hunt precisely that way) but it doesn’t change the fact that you ended up precisely on the gobbling turkey with the kids who beat you there first thing that morning. Hence, the entire public land premise of going elsewhere when you get somewhere late and people beat you there and are gone from their trucks. Even though those kids were starstruck by you and the awfully awkward situation that unfolded, it doesn’t change the fact that had you taken your medicine for being late and gone elsewhere, those kids would have gotten to fool (I don’t care if they were blowing a train horn at him, they were there first, haven’t yet given up yet, and your coming in landed you on top of them in time) with that turkey without your interference. And given they, as relatively rookie turkey hunters, have now encountered Dave Owens going about the MO of coming into that spot regardless of who is there and being late and thinking that MO is totally OK, and I’m sure they now believe it is cool as well given your influence.
      THOSE are my issues. Me and one of my dear friends used to hunt that spot with regularity. Haven’t been there in a few years now. This video shows precisely why and you haven’t helped to remedy the situation as a supposed ambassador whatsoever but instead the contrary.
      You were wrong and I think you realized it after the kill shot. Could see the wheels turning in your head while talking to those kids and your normal MO of really engaging hunters in conversation was shortened and awkward. I think you know deep down that had that whole thing gone down with an older, experienced, not star-stricken turkey hunter, the outcome would have been drastically different.
      In the end, I have made tons of judgment mistakes on public too, have admitted to them, and apologized to the affected. That’s all you can do as imperfect men. You were the encroacher this time sir, not those young men, all things considered. They had no idea they were “encroaching” because they had no earthly idea you were in the world and had come into the tract after them. Or perhaps they knew someone was around after the trip back to the truck, but they had been there first and had the most right to the turkey that started gobbling. You don’t have a good argument otherwise and ought to admit you were wrong and apologize to them.

    • @chadappleton7196
      @chadappleton7196 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pinhotiproject And one last thing. I have seen you pitch a FIT on people in Florida for coming in on top of you when you were there first. With MILES AND MILES of available ground. That places where you were hunts extremely small depending on where the hunter is listening from when the turkey gobbles. If one can coordinate with a fellow turkey hunter and agree that one hunts one side of the gorge and the other takes the opposite, it can work. But you didn’t have that luxury because you were late.

    Beautiful mountains. Is there any other way to hunt a turkey? Awesome hunt!

    Honest question: is it cool to move in and work a turkey that you know someone else is working? I can see it from both sides. Just wondering what others thoughts were on the subject. Another good video from Dave. Thanks for sharing

      No just be respectful and let the other person work the bird. You would want someone to do the same for you.

      No, find another spot. It’s dangerous and very disrespectful

      Most definitely not cool. But in these guys defense I was calling w very low volume and was doing most of what little calling I did while they were still moving and rustling in the leaves. Not sure if they ever knew I was there until the shot.

    I think the whole turkey world would be better if they outlawed crow calls and owl hooter

    Glad you killed it man. This hunt reminded me of hunting in my home state of Arkansas.

    Those cats need to find a different hobby, clearly they have no idea or they'd be to embarrassed to walk up there you'd think
