300,000 Spartan soldiers are doing a shield wall defense with spears and shields against 5 million persian soldiers in the largest battle of thermopylae ever. This was made using UEBS 2 the Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator.

Imagine being a historian trying to explain that the 300 graphic novel is fiction and that yes there were 300 *Spartan citizens* but 90% of the population of Sparta at the time were slaves and there were 7,000 of them. Oh also slavery was banned in Persia by Xerxes himself.

Maybe you could do a battle on the scale of the entire Eastern Front or something. Have 3 million Germans go up against 7 million Soviets.

Realistically this game isn't fair to the Persians. If you know history they killed 1 Roman Emperor, enslaved another and killed the richest man in Rome Crassus, Caesers friend, who tried to conquer them at one point. Not to mention they badly humiliated Marc Antony.

Had the spartans just held the bridges instead of trying to advance they'd have done far better. Especially since you lost over 40k troops to drowning. Those troops alone would've = what, another .5 million casualties at least ? fun to watch though, very fun brother, thank you for making these

The Battle of Cannae would be cool to see. In real life it took Hannibals troops six and a half hours to kill 70,000 men using his now famous semi circle formation flanked by Calvary.

I love how you included the facts about there being more than 300 Spartans at Thermopylae. I did recherche after watching 300 and it’s something a lot of people forget.
During the battle of Thermopylae, some Greeks volunteered to hold the line while Athens and a few other city-states pulled their forces back to defend deeper into Greek territory.
300 Spartans held the frontline while 700 Thespians held the rear guard. There were also a few hundred Helots, Phocians and Thebans there too, but they were overwhelmed or surrendered early in the battle according to both Persian and Greek sources. The 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians held out with little to no help for multiple days.
The reason why the Spartans were the ones who received most of the glory for the battle was that they were the frontline men. The rest of the Greek forces were holding their flanks and rear. During the first wave of Persians, 10,000 Persians were cut down by the Spartans, who only lost 3-7 men in return. It was one of three times Xerxes stood up from pure shock during the battle.
So, yes, there were allied Greeks, but the Spartans saw the brunt of the fighting. Also, all of the allies that stayed behind with the Spartans were largely useless except for the Thespians.
@@superkamiguru6856 I think your still giving the Spartans WAYYYY too much benefit of the doubt and are playing into the myth about their power, but also not giving the other Greeks enough credit. However I do agree with the general points of what you said.
@@superkamiguru6856 They were actually 7.000 Thespians and 300 spartans. And yeah spartans were the hardcore soldiers and made Xerxes lose hes shit, that's why they get the most credit.
@@TheBetterBleedingBladesTH-cam Thespians didn't get enough credit because they weren't even warriors...They were normal citizen that chose to fight..They weren't something wow and they didn't achieve anything big. Spartans literally trained all their life for this from 5 years old.
@@pepegos5778 Excepting that they were then warriors- they were trained hoplites. Even if they were casual civillians who joined up that makes them trained soldiers.

How did Daley get footage of the ancient past? His bachelors in history is mighty.
That last batch of 5000 or so Spartans was on high ground and holding their own. I think it is very possible that they would have won the battle. Not unless some of those Persians on the right flank of the Spartans that were dying trying to climb the side of the mountain actually got some guys up there. If so, they could have then gotten above & behind the Spartans, and then could have started major rock slides down on the Spartan position.
I definitely think that the Spartans work far better as aggressive offensive as they can form tighter lines and can attack a Persian before being hit to be engaged.
By the way the final numbers are 8242 Spartans vs 853848 Persians, so about 100 to 1 odds, I think the spartans while having a valiant effort would unfortunately not be able to hold out.

Imagine the Persians marching home, and telling their King they won, but suffered a 99% death toll among your own troops, to a force that was only 6% of your size... LOL
Most of the death toll was suicide 🤷🏿♂️ so let's say a good 25-40%

given the kill numbers on both sides, the Spartans wouldve eventually prevailed. which is nuts considering it was 15 to 1 odds approximately at the beginning.

There were 300 *Spartan citizens* at Thermopylae and *7,000* Spartan slaves. 90% of the population of Sparta were slaves. Slavery was banned in Persia by Xerxes. The movie 300 is a work of fiction yall.

My guess is based on how well 300K Spartans did against 5 million Persians, I think it’s safe to say that 3,000 Spartans would take out 55K Persians

I think that having all of the units free moving is more entertaining so it’s not just watching a grind fest and the AI can make moves and countermoves! Also would love to see more videos that take place in the mountains like the romans vs Spartan video! That goat trail on the mountain side was absolutely brutal

I want to see this battle AGAIN but tell all three Spartan armies to charge! The formations caused by the first armies charge was very interesting so I want to see that again.

The Persian Tactical Reserve never got released of their "Hold" thus sealing their fate.
The "Hold" command in UEBS isn't a defence command, but supposed to be used only in the RTS mode to keep the tactical reserve on hold until they are needed or then to stay put some ranged troops like the catapults defending a given area and also to keep archers stationed on top of their castle walls they are ordered to defend.
I haven’t watched this channel since about a year ago on xcom clone wars, still as good as I remember!

Duuuuuude I watched the whole thing just to NOT see the conclusion?? This was the only video I've seen here where I couldn't readily tell who was going to win 😢 Now I'll never know.
The game needs scripting for advancing to a certain position, but not to go beyond that position. That's the only way a proper chokepoint battle can be conducted. The AI pathfinding has certainly improved a lot, making being outflanked a much bigger concern. I'd love to see some fortress maps with options for intelligently garrisoning troops on the walls.

So at the beginning you said “one spartan equals about 10 Persians, but every time I calculated that the Spartans always killed more. Either the Spartans at the end would win by VERY close or the Persians at the end would win by VERY close and by very close I’m talkin either side has hundreds or less than a hundred left

In UEBS 1 a spartan was worth around five persians. Now they are worth ten.

There really needs to be an additional statistic on displaying total killed versus killed by enemy action.

Both numbers were divided by 100. Absolute victory for the Spartans. The last two Spartans would have gone on to share the story of how 300,000 spartans gave their last breath to defend it.

The Persian army what it first fought in the Battle of Thermopylae was like half a million to a million Persian soldiers now it's 5× BIGGER than is crazy
I think the last Persians would have gotten killed by the environment while they looked for the last two Spartains that were hiding on top of the buildings.

The Persians running up the mountain and off might just be treated as them running away
The Persians are weaker, but they also harmed themselves with that glitch where they just streamed over the mountain to disappear/die at the arbitrary end of the map. Unfortunately we will never know how many died that way. If they could have been re-directed back into the fight that may have helped.
The problem with defence in these battles is that they dont retake or replenish the different flanks so i think if you let maybe 10000 attack every once in a while it could work

They do include a Hold command. But he’s done that before
Or be more active in his commands after the Spartans grabbed the foothold on the bridge they should have stopped and had reinforcements come in behind them instead of pushing into the Persian lines and spreading themselves so thin. And those larger groups should have been on the attack once the Persians crossed the river so they didn't get flanked
