He wouldn't do well against the modern greats because of the evolution of the game and solvers. Poker is a game that evolves all the time, and you have to be playing the best in the world to keep on top of your game. Stuey got crushed in the cash games even back then, but he was the best tournament player in the world by far. I would say with practice he could do very well in tournaments today, but it's hard to say how well, that's just speculation. He had insane insane talent though.

Or do you think he could have played even better sober?
He would be dead in a cheap motel room 1 year later with drugs found in his system. His death was determined to be heart failure after decades of drug abuse. Absolutely tragic.

A single hand doesn't determine how well you're playing overall, and this wasn't even a bad play. Plus it's hard to say if this was Ungar at his very best, despite the win.
Such a shame that a guy who had a talent that could have made him many more millions ended the way he did. He could have taken care of his daughter and himself so much better.

If I remember correctly, there were renovations going on inside so they just moved out. It was meant to be temporary. Interesting to see, though.
