- WORST Outkast Songs. I've finally listened to Outkast's discography, and I decided to make a video discussing what I think their WORST songs are.
I listened to 99 songs from their albums Southernplayalistic, ATLiens, Aquemini, Stankonia, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and Idlewild. I even watched the movie Idlewild to help me understand the corresponding album more. What are some of Outkast weakest songs in YOUR opinion?

ATLiens is a flawless masterpiece. My personal favorite hip hop album of all time.
Mamacita has always been the most confusing Outkast song to me. I never understood what made them place that track onto what could’ve been a flawless album.
Right! After reading the background of the song everything made sense. That song wasn't even made for them. Andre heard the beat and wanted to rap over it, but instead of letting Masada keep the song for herself, he wanted to put it on Aquemini.
That song deserves the hate it gets.

Ceelo is 100% the best member of Goodie Mob, but Khujo also never had a weak verse in my opinion. Gipp had his moments and T-mo should’ve been left out of the group.

i love southernplayalisticadillacmuzik's title track. it was my first outkast song and the complex flows, although immature compared to the music they would make, got me hooked on southern rap. to each their own tho, im a big fan of this channel 🙏

Haaah! U done done it! Talkin wet bout ATLiens! That’s was the first album I bought on vinyl as I began my bedroom DJ life in 1996! (Back then, albums on wax were CHEAPER than CDs because by the mid 90s, only DJs were buying records (most LPs were $10-$13, 12” singles $5 or $6). It was easier to convince mom to buy me ATLiens on wax because it was only $10, ~$6 cheaper than the CD. I was crushed the next week at school when dudes with the CD were showing off the comic book that came with that version 😭. WHEELZ OF STEEL has aged okay, but it was more exciting when it dropped. For context: OutKast is from the south, most of the hip hop community wasn’t checking for ATL: their scene was still regional, and Kilo Ali & Raheem the Dream (pre-Outkast rap legends) weren’t ever for sale where I lived. Being their second LP, ATLiens hit super hard because it was their way of making a rap record that was comparable to most of the rap albums I was into (wu tang, tribe, smif n wessun, biggie, gang Starr, mob deep).
That’s why they are paying respect to DJ culture early in the album, to make a connection between NYC DJs & quintessential hip hop, and what they’re trying to achieve with this album.
There was still live instrumentation, and some southern funk/soul vibes-but the sonic palette of ATLiens was a triumph because it was a SEAMLESS MIX of east coast boom bap aesthetics, thru a southern lens. The guitar on WHEELZ OF STEEL is unfuckwithable. Thas my favorite part.
What makes the DJ solo at the end special is the tone of the scratches: MrDJ (I presume) was scratching a part of a record that was very high pitched, so the scratches sounded more like notes from a conventional instrument, rather than the “ZHUGGA ZHUGGA” sound that most people think of when they think of scratching records. I think it was supposed to be saying “here’s proof that turntablism is a valid form of musicianship”, because he made it sound more like a more melodic sequence of ‘notes’

Me too. It didn’t sound like anything out when it dropped (I was a east coast rap head), but the energy caught me. “Tight like hallways” is one of my favorite lines, because nostalgia & because I yearn for deep friendship
Love In War and Love Hater is my shit! That's nostalgia for me!!! The trumpets on that 7 minute track though on the Aquemini LP goes hard!!!

Outkast is fantastic. ATLiens is my favorite personally. Even though Speakbox got album of the year I felt like it was a bit long. But it still had some straight heat

I believe I saw an interview that said that songs from the love below and speaker box we're supposed to be songs for Idlewild as well. For example, the song Church from speaker box is in the movie Idlewild. The song vibrate from the love below is also in the movie Idlewild.
