She met a person who she tried to sell an apple too, she saw her apples were rotten and dropped it on him, she felt horrible but the man was angry and hit her against the wall. Once that happened she lost faith in ever making anyone smile. When she began to cry those weren't normal tears, those were tears of sorrow and despair but also water. The man who was thirsty woke when it was touching him, he followed the source as to not drink it on the ground. Once he found her he went to her and began drinking the water, drinking the sorrow as since he was extremely thirsty. The women soon stopped crying and was so happy she was able to please someone she cried true tears of a mix of joy and sadness. This isn't a love story, they aren't a couple meant to be. They are two strangers who happen to satisfy each others needs. I think the girl's apples were her "hope". The people in the city didnt care about her so before she even knew it, her hope started to rot away, though she still tried to smile. She gave a rotten apple to a stranger and discovered that she didn't have hope after all, and that discovery led to despair, where she dashed her hope upon the ground and cried tears, stained blue. The guy came and noticed her and comforted her, accepting her sadness and those tears became altered, tears of the fact that someone finally took notice of her. They became clear. And then she picked up her basket, and though it was empty it meant that she was ready to try and hope again. As for the boy, he couldn't find any water out in the wild, but as for the city, there was none or what little there was was tainted. Nothing is free and what's free is crap. When he finally found water, it was created from the sufferings of another, but when that other cried clean pure tears, he couldn't take those. Something to think about...

This is WOW beautiful!!! They were complete strangers & yet he treated her in such a loving way. She was watching him to see how he would react to her pain, but he just drank her sorrow away. I think her crystal tears were tears of joy! This beautifully shows how sometimes through love & kindness even a stranger can heal a broken heart. ^x^
It's not crystal tears, they're the tears that she should've had to begin with, not those darker ones without shine tattered with the brutality of sorrow.
I remember watching this 12 years ago. Even after all this time, it still brings tears to my eyes. The world we live in may be a dark and cruel place, but there will always be someone who will show you kindness when others will not, someone who will be there to dry your tears when others leave you to weep, someone that will hold your hand and show you the way when others will leave you lost, someone to show that there is still a reason to hold on to hope when others are hopeless. This is a beautiful story.
It appears very Buddhist. The girl is acting as a bodhisattva, the acts she performs are similar to miracles attributed to such saints. The boy helps her by accepting her aid, and is in turn, aided by her; however, one cannot remain simply in the embrace of a teacher, so they have to part and continue their respective paths through life and the world. The world of humankind is depicted as toxic, violent, false, and suffering. Water, a symbol of life, grace, and the subconscious/spiritual realm here is depicted as the boy's thirst, (lacking it) the cities black water, (toxic/poisoned) and the girl's tears, (life giving, redeeming). The apples are symbolic of similar things: life, dreams, compassion, they rot and are rejected by the city dwellers because all who hate life love death. Wonderful little film. Great work.

Well, here's how I see it. so the boy's thirsty, right? and the girl is trying to give away her apples, but no one wants them. she tries to help all the 'zombies' and i believe the apples would've brought them back to a normal state. but as she fails to give them away, she gets attacked for trying to help (while the rotting apples represent her hope of helping others) and she loses all hope. she's now feeling useless and hopeless, completely without will to move on (the apples were rotten completely). but then the boy! he desperately tries to find his water (the source for his survival, because he can't go on like that either) and he tries to survive by drinking the oil (and the oil means lousy and foul people, faking to be friends) but he fails and falls down, completely giving up. but as the water reaches him, he sees a bit of hope and finds the broken girl. she notices him, but knows she's of no use, since no one wanted her help. but then the boy shows to her that she is indeed needed and he drinks her tears, who are actually the one thing she never though others would need. her tears represent comfort and understanding. the boy drinks them and she finally realises she was of some use after all and that's how she breaks down and cries her true tears, both from sadness and happiness, figuring out she was needed all along, but feeling sad because she was on the edge before. if she had not started crying, she wouldn't have helped the boy. the boy then hugs her, showing to her that he cares and thanking her for her existance. in the end she smiles to him in a sign of thank you, and he does the same. That's how I saw it the first time I watched. :) Truly beautiful, hats down
everything except the water seemed like blue paint at first, and it seemed like he was taking away her pain by drinking the blue paint, then she cried real water tears of joy. idk tho it looked like paint and water at the same time.

I think the girl's apples were her "hope". The people in the city didnt care about her so before she even knew it, her hope started to rot away, though she still tried to smile. She gave a rotten apple to a stranger and discovered that she didn't have hope after all, and that discovery led to despair, where she dashed her hope upon the ground and cried tears, stained blue. The guy came and noticed her and comforted her, accepting her sadness and those tears became altered, tears of the fact that someone finally took notice of her. They became clear. And then she picked up her basket, and though it was empty it meant that she was ready to try and hope again. As for the boy, he couldn't find any water out in the wild, but as for the city, there was none or what little there was was tainted. Nothing is free and what's free is crap. When he finally found water, it was created from the sufferings of another, but when that other cried clean pure tears, he couldn't take those. Something to think about...

この世界は生きにくいし美しくないけど、一瞬の確かな愛のある行為でこの二人が救われて見てきた世界に希望を持ったのかな
彼女が悲しんでたから少年は気付けたし、誰にも自分を(リンゴ)受け入れてくれなかった彼女の涙を舐めてあげることで(飲む)、初めて誰かに求められた彼女が心から救われてるのがいいな
少年もずっとさ迷って都会に入ってもなお苦しかったから(喉乾いてたから)、彼女の存在が無かったらと思うとこの出会いが感動する
痛みを分かち合える存在って大事だよね。
とにかく少女の表情がもう好き可愛い

This is WOW beautiful!!! They were complete strangers & yet he treated her in such a loving way. She was watching him to see how he would react to her pain, but he just drank her sorrow away. I think her crystal tears were tears of joy! This beautifully shows how sometimes through love & kindness even a stranger can heal a broken heart. ^x^

I remember watching this 12 years ago. Even after all this time, it still brings tears to my eyes.
The world we live in may be a dark and cruel place, but there will always be someone who will show you kindness when others will not, someone who will be there to dry your tears when others leave you to weep, someone that will hold your hand and show you the way when others will leave you lost, someone to show that there is still a reason to hold on to hope when others are hopeless.
This is a beautiful story.
It appears very Buddhist. The girl is acting as a bodhisattva, the acts she performs are similar to miracles attributed to such saints. The boy helps her by accepting her aid, and is in turn, aided by her; however, one cannot remain simply in the embrace of a teacher, so they have to part and continue their respective paths through life and the world. The world of humankind is depicted as toxic, violent, false, and suffering. Water, a symbol of life, grace, and the subconscious/spiritual realm here is depicted as the boy's thirst, (lacking it) the cities black water, (toxic/poisoned) and the girl's tears, (life giving, redeeming). The apples are symbolic of similar things: life, dreams, compassion, they rot and are rejected by the city dwellers because all who hate life love death.

We live the now and ever circle, awakening and going to sleep but there comes a day when we never go to sleep again and always remain fully awake, when we show compassion and love not as a rare miracle but as a common miracle we show a window into our brightest light and dispel the most bleak of woes.

これを小2か小3の頃に見てめちゃくちゃ泣いた。子供ながら涙を飲むシーンが凄く綺麗でそれ以来､毎日みてた思い出がある。久しぶりに見つけて､今見ても本当に凄い素敵な作品だと思いました。

Well, here's how I see it.
so the boy's thirsty, right? and the girl is trying to give away her apples, but no one wants them. she tries to help all the 'zombies' and i believe the apples would've brought them back to a normal state. but as she fails to give them away, she gets attacked for trying to help (while the rotting apples represent her hope of helping others) and she loses all hope. she's now feeling useless and hopeless, completely without will to move on (the apples were rotten completely). but then the boy! he desperately tries to find his water (the source for his survival, because he can't go on like that either) and he tries to survive by drinking the oil (and the oil means lousy and foul people, faking to be friends) but he fails and falls down, completely giving up. but as the water reaches him, he sees a bit of hope and finds the broken girl. she notices him, but knows she's of no use, since no one wanted her help. but then the boy shows to her that she is indeed needed and he drinks her tears, who are actually the one thing she never though others would need. her tears represent comfort and understanding. the boy drinks them and she finally realises she was of some use after all and that's how she breaks down and cries her true tears, both from sadness and happiness, figuring out she was needed all along, but feeling sad because she was on the edge before. if she had not started crying, she wouldn't have helped the boy. the boy then hugs her, showing to her that he cares and thanking her for her existance. in the end she smiles to him in a sign of thank you, and he does the same.
That's how I saw it the first time I watched. :) Truly beautiful, hats down

everything except the water seemed like blue paint at first, and it seemed like he was taking away her pain by drinking the blue paint, then she cried real water tears of joy. idk tho it looked like paint and water at the same time.
Then the girl got friendzoned and there we have one of the most nonsense endings of all time, i mean, they seem homeless and both needed help, destiny gathered them to complement each other and then they depart? WTF?
