    Great review ! While the ATEM switchers do have advantages, this switcher certainly have its own good aspects as well.
    One precision if I may, regarding the key/dsk/bkgd buttons : the "on air" buttons are instant toggles that will apply a cut transition directly for the corresponding layer, which will be toggled on or off on the preview and the live outputs.
    On the other hand, the three buttons beneath the "on air" buttons, have the label "next transition" written underneath. Traditionnally, these buttons would be called "TIE" on older switchers.
    What they do is tie the layer to the next transition, so you can choose to affect the background (full screen source), the key (PIP), and/or DSK with your next transition.
    This means enabling one should only affect the preview, util you apply your transition, where it would be live.
    Hope this helps clarifying the confusion around this section.
    ATEM minis would be perfect if they had physical controls for this, and a second output HDMI.

      I believe I did explain and show that in the video (preview of key / taking it to air).
      To clarify for you, the BKGD button stayed permanently lit, regardless of how I pressed it; that was my only puzzlement.

      @jean-baptistedeberlhe7913 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TubeShooterMag Sorry for the lack of clarity on my side, I'll give more details.
      At 11 minutes, you say "Background - BKGD - doesn't seem to do anything, I've not worked out what that one does at all. However these (showing the left key buttons) are to do with keying."
      Here, Background cannot be untied from the transition unless you at least tie a key or dsk to the transition, since you cannot transition if nothing is selected.
      And starting at 27 minutes, you say this functionnality is weird : "You can if - you want to - turn it off, weirdly by turning the button on, turns it off on the preview so that when you then cut it's not on screen anymore. It's a bit weird, it sort of turns into an on/off button the other way around when you've taken it to air."
      You did explain what it does, but I thought it would be a valuable feedback to say that it is not weird but intended functionnality, as this is how keying and tying works, as you can find it on the Atem Mini (in the software control), Atem television studios (as physical buttons : BKGD, KEY-1 to 4 and DSK 1-2 TIE), and other brands, like Barco switchers.
      This functionnality is one I find the most useful on switchers as physical buttons, hence why I've been most interested in your review of these buttons, but since it seemed to me that it was a bit confusing, I wanted to add the information I could give in case it could help you or a potential viewer with little experience with video switchers.

    • @TubeShooterMag
      @TubeShooterMag  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers for the clarification; I see what you mean. It is still weird that "on" (lit) becomes "off" and vice versa; it's inconsistent.

    • @jean-baptistedeberlhe7913
      @jean-baptistedeberlhe7913 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not really, as this is not the role of these buttons. The above "On air" buttons do represent the live state of the layers when they are lit in red, and the off state when they are not (and pressing those would indeed toggle this state instantly).
      But where the preview row has buttons lit in green, Upstream Keys and Downstream Keys have no preview state, other than being show on the preview feed; they just have a transition binding button, which is just that, a binding button, representing the state of the binding to the transition.
      When lit, the corresponding layer is bound to the transition, and will change state, whereas when not lit, it would just not transition and the layer would stay in the same state (reperesented by the "on air" button being or not being lit in red), so these are two separate roles and this cannot be compared in the way you do.
      Some manufacturers choose the yellow light to represent transition states, where it is white on this model, but it works in the same way.
      Bigger and profesionnal video switchers all work in this way, which is the standard, and while is might seem confusing since there is no green light for the preview like the background layers, it does make sense to show which layers are enabled with your transitions, may it be the background, any Upstream key, or any Downstream key upwards.

    Longtime ATEM user here, this is a powerful competitor and I can see why they’ve added the features they have added. It’s not elegant. But it covers the feature sets of expensive BMD machines. BKGD is for when you want to transition a key in or out, but then select NOT to transition the background (camera) at the same time.

    Well. Amongst all the reviews i saw, you explained the key related features very well. Loved the detailing of all features. I have recently purchased the Duet model because of SDI capability.
    This is totally value for money. I am very much comfortable with OBS and it can do all the things which a switcher can do. But just for the price of 3 SDI converters, we get a lot more in Duet model. I actually used Duet once just as a SDI converter by inputting 3 SDI cameras and sending individual outs via 2 HDMI and 1 UVC out. This thing is very powerful. ISO recording will make it a king in its segment.

    This is probably the best upgrade for the ATEM mini pro I've seen yet. There are a couple others that offer touch screens or 4k but miss on the extra features on this one.
    To pick nits, I wish you could supersource all 4/5 inputs but 2 is good. Most will let you do a side by side but no background. The biggest miss for me is the lack of iso recording. I've often been asked for re-edits or clips after a stream and it's been a game changer for business.
    None the less you are getting more than ATEM mini pro features at at roughly the same price. I highly recommend.

    Wow. This basically merges the ATEM Mini with an Extreme and Television Studio HD and a Hyperdeck all in one. I love it. I have three Blackmagic switchers (original Mini, Extreme ISO, Television Studio HD, as well as a HyperDeck) and this thing has features that none of them have (such as web cam in, NDI, volume knobs, T-Bar). I LOVE the fact that you also can get dedicated Preview buttons (like the Television Studio) and preview transition but on a 4-input switcher. That is awesome.

    41:24 It may be that the encoder is where they are saving some money in the build of the unit. Another possibility is that if it doesn’t have any active cooling, pushing the encoder to do higher bitrate would heat things up all the more.
    My guess is that this is where bitrate limitations are coming from. Lack of cooling and the strength of the encoder.

    • @osee_tech
      @osee_tech ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The fanless design is because that the internal heat is generated to the bottom of the equipment. And please don't worry. Our equipment can guarantee normal operation at an ambient temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. The bitrate limitation, do you mean the recording?

  • @WylieVideo
    @WylieVideo ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The grouping of buttons where the keys and background sit are quite correct, and not backwards. Those buttons set what will be included in the next transition ( just like an ATEM).
    'Background' would normally be lit most all of the time because most transitions will be changing the backgrounds (the full screen signal of each of the inputs). When 'Background' and 'DSK' are both highlighted, both will be included in the next transition -- transitioning to the preview-selected input AND the pre-planned key.
    A situation in which you might turn off the background is to use the transition tools to add/remove the keys but not change the background. If your main presenter is on camera 1, you could turn off the background and only select the DSK, and using a transition (mix, etc.) gently/nicely mix on the presenter's name (the DSK), and just as nicely remove it without the presenter going away.
    Otherwise you use the On Air buttons to CUT the keys on and off. The On Air buttons help you know what key is currently going out on Program, to help you determine what should be included in the next transition (to perhaps turn the key(s) off using a transition).

    • @TubeShooterMag
      @TubeShooterMag  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks. I don't think I ever said the buttons weren't correct, and I showed what they do. But the BKGD button doesn't do *anything*. It is permanently lit, no matter how you press it.

      Try to press it, when one of the buttons left to it are LIT.
      It should turn off. And THEN you can use the Transition to bring a Keyer on-Air or of-Air without affecting the Video behind it (the ‚background‘)

    Very interesting kit. Thanks for the in depth review! I assume there is no software interface for this, similar to the ATEM software? The ability to save out start-up states on the ATEM make location work very easy to get the switcher set up. I’d think that you’d have to schedule extra time on location to fiddle about with all the settings to get ready for a show. Seems like ATEM is the clear winner on that front.

    looks like a nice piece of gear, the only questions i have are:
    is the switch of the output source seamless? I do streaming for a few conferences and it would be useful to use one of the HDMI-Outs to send a signal to a projector so that I can easily display a logo/program/announcements/... in-between different talks where no speaker laptop is present (the switching should be possible with macros)
    does the mixer support the alpha channel that is possible with NDI? would be super cool to use this for overlays
    does the mixer support some form of remote control over network?
    does the mixer only record the program mix or is it also possible to record single sources? (like the ISO Models from Blackmagic)
    does the mixer support custom RTMP Servers? We have our own Streaming Servers so we would need to set our own server-address and credentials

    • @TubeShooterMag

    It looks to be a very useful little machine! I liked it too. What I don't like about it and this applies to Blackmagic Design's offerings also, is the material used for the buttons. That rubberised-plastic is notorious for becoming sticky and decaying over time. This particular machine still made a lot of clicking noises when you pushed the buttons, so I would much prefer if they used computer keyboard like hard physical buttons. That alone would extend the longevity of the product. Yes, I understand that the bit-rate aspect would likely become obsolete pretty quickly for live streaming, but for using as a mixing desk in a multi-camera shoot and outputting the signal to a recorder, it has a much longer life as a useable machine which I suspect would outlive those terrible rubberised buttons.

    Hello my friend, this is one of the most useful review i saw on this device. Thank you so much! I have just a question, since you probably got more confortable with this device, is it possible to store configurations on macro buttons?
    I mean not recording any pressing on buttons but storing configurations of pip, keys and so on and change with the simple press of a button. Example, default config on button 1, pip configurations when i want to use pip, with custom positions on button 2, chroma settings on button 2 and so on. Thank you again!

    • @TubeShooterMag
      @TubeShooterMag  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The buttons are purely macros, they store a sequence of keypresses. So if you want to store a specific configuration of PIP or whatever, you have to record the sequence of keypresses to make that PIP how you want it; they don’t simply record window layouts howsoever you have them defined at that moment (as seen on some other switchers). Whilst the macro approach is arguably more flexible since you can use the buttons to store almost any sequence, I find it less useful than dedicated ‘layout’ storage buttons because macros are too finicky for me.

I‘m currently using a Yolobox Pro in conjunction with an Atem Mini Pro ISO in order to have all video streams recorded and to being able to use differents recording quality settings than those of the low bandwith stream. The thing is that I would wish to get a device which would be something of a crossmerger between the Cinetreak Cinelive C1 you just reviewed and this Osee GoStream Deck. I like the video player feature of the GoStream a lot, but I need a PTZ controller like the Cinelive has one. Is there such a kind of device on the market in the budget sector?

    Thanks for this comprehensive tutorial and review. I run video for a small church, and our old church succeeded with the ATEM Mini Pro. But I've been seeing complaints about no on/off switch, no headphone jack, and only 1 output.
    It looks like this provides all of those and much more. Will probably go with this for my new church instead of ATEM Mini Pro.

      Unfortunately I don't know at present. I'm hoping to get the NDI firmware when it's ready so I can do an update video, and hopefully I should get the price then too. I suspect it'll be set by whichever organisation owns the NDI tech spec rather than by Osee

    I'm on the fence between this and a Atem mini Pro. Great video. 2 doubts that would convince me to go with the Osee over the Atem.
    For shaping audio, I have a Zoom Podcaster, which I'm thinking I can solve the audio problem by mixing my audio sources there and bringing it in through one of the 2 Mic inputs on the Osee, right?
    Second, does the Osee have a program record option? Like the Atem mini Pro has the USB-C where you can connect a drive and record your program there. For streaming it all looks great, but I would also like to record my program for later use.
    again, great video!

  • @fmphotooffice5513
    @fmphotooffice5513 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The more it does the smaller it looks. If you have big hands you're going to get cramps in your hand. (It's really small.) If it gets that hot streaming low bitrates it might cook itself to death if it pushes data any faster. NOTHING wrong with the manufacturer adding a few fans and a big heat sink. In fact it would give the user more confidence running it full-bore for a whole broadcast day. The switcher blowing up would ruin your whole day. Balanced audio would be nice too. SDI instead of HDMI as well. It's much less consequential to go to HDMI from SDI. Simple active adapters work very well.
