    Not sure if this was intentionally taken out of the recap or not but towards the end when Davis is pressing the panic button he went back to bed, cut his wrists and died on the bed which is why they were yelling dead for the two (Angel and Davis) kids who died. Butch also found out about the rape that happened to Davis as well which is why he went after Looney during the riot.

    Scum is a 1979 British drama film directed by Alan Clarke and starring Ray Winstone, Mick Ford, Julian Firth and John Blundell. The film portrays the brutality of life inside a British borstal. The script was originally filmed as a television play for the BBC's Play for Today series in 1977. However, due to the violence depicted, it was withdrawn from broadcast.[3] Two years later, director Alan Clarke and scriptwriter Roy Minton remade it as a film, first shown on Channel 4 in 1983.[3] By this time the borstal system had been reformed. The original TV version was eventually allowed to be aired eight years later in 1991.
    The film tells the story of a young offender named Carlin as he arrives at the institution and his rise through violence and self-protection to the top of the inmates' pecking order, purely as a tool to survive. Beyond Carlin's individual storyline, the film also serves as an indictment of the borstal system's flaws with no attempt at rehabilitation. The warders and convicts alike are brutalised by the system. The film's controversy arose over its graphic depiction of racism, extreme violence, rape, suicide, many fights and very strong language.

    My dad was in a “juvenile” institution for a while and based off of his stories this is not far from the truth, sadly. The only part that’s unrealistic is all the beatings would’ve just been straight up attempted murders. He was in there less than a year and was stabbed in the chest with an ice pick, and snatched out of his bed in the middle of the night so they could put him in a sack and throw him down a flight of stairs, and those were the tame things.

      lol well this would've been the 60s and 70s... so honestly to get the vibe of that place the best thing you could do would be to watch Sleepers the film... and then you'd see why asking for help from the people who work there won't do anything. Nowadays, I imagine there is potentially more faculty actually trying to help you depending on the facility, but it's gonna be a crap shoot, and at the end of the day everything is mired in red tape and overhead costs, so if it's too expensive or if they don't feel like it, it's probably not gonna happen... and as a criminal you have little recourse... nobody really cares if you're okay in American prisons and they are run as for-profit (often private) businesses, so they don't care if you're innocent, and they aren't trying to rehabilitate anybody for the most part either. @@kulnoorx

    • @greenaum
      @greenaum 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@EarnestEgregore It's ridiculous that prisons, who pay their workers pennies, are allowed to compete in areas like clothing manufacture with real companies who have to turn a profit just on selling products, who aren't massively subsidised by the government. They should have no right to do that. Give the prisoners work for the government. And pay them a proper wage. It's essentially slavery, or indentured work. Obliged to work for pennies because it's the only option.
      And WTF are private companies running prisons? Prisons are *supposed* to run at a loss. That's the point of them, they're there to incarcerate people, that costs money. At least if they're gonna have a money sink, that apparently serves society, have the govt run it directly, or at worse some sort of non-profit. There shouldn't be profit in prisons. And it's all just government money anyway pretending to be a business. Business is the wrong model to run prisons on.

    • @EarnestEgregore
      @EarnestEgregore 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I mean, lol not trying to start an even longer argument but that's my issue with police departments as well... they get to the end of the month and anyone they pull over is guilty because they've got to hit a quota... there's a lot of stuff that shouldn't be for-profit in America, but none of these are seen as problems by the people making money, so it's not changing anytime soon. We don't even hold our representatives to the laws they pass, they get different healthcare than the rest of the nation, they get lines of credit to decorate their offices... The solutions to the problems are easy, the hard part is getting enough people at the top that can't be bought to actually change things, because you need a majority. @@greenaum

    Looking back at Goodyear I think his character represents how a good cop eventually becomes a shitty cop. Cause there is many ways to make money, and if you chose a cop it's most likely that you had good intentions. So why is it so many shitty cops exist? And I feel the answer is really simple, it's a system that doesn't correct problems, and the frustration of never being able to accomplish what you signed up for, but also feeling like you can't quit creates a very bitter and sometimes even corrupt person.

      Most asshole cops and corrections officers act like that because they feel a sense of power and control over others. The “shot caller” of our pod gave him a hard 39 (13x3) which is a 39 second beatdown. I guess because I look like I can fight, they made me and one other jump him. After like 8 seconds he crumpled over and started crying. I wanted to stop but if I did then I may have got checked, so I beat this poor guy for felt like an eternity. I obviously didn’t hit him my hardest, i am trained fighter I would of hurt him really bad. But it was bad enough that I went to my bunk and cried silently for a few minutes. That happened a few times, thank God i never went to prison and had to stab someone. I was in Iraq in 2008 and i saw and participated in a lot. Dog Pound is a remake of Scum, made over 30 years after Scum was released.
      Scum was based on Borstal institutions that were around at that time, they had a terrible name for themselves and lots of violence and abuse happened in them against the lads (by other lads AND the staff).
      Dog Pound is a good movie and I enjoyed it but, I definitely prefer Scum. I think it’s grittier, more authentic and bolder than the remake.

    3# as a ex convict & someone that grew up in ol school Chicago myself , I can say that *First Time Felon* is the most accurate "Jail" movie of all time!!! Cook County Jail is definitely no joke , your better of being in a actual prison tbh!!!!
    2# *Dog Pound* is the most accurate "Gladiator School" movie of all time thos kids were very on point too almost everything is 100% accurate in this film its a real dipiction of gladiator school for teens a place where most teens up to 25 don't wanna be , its pretty much exactly just like this movie is , you're surrounded around other young folks like u so its never a nice minute in a Gladiator camp & no silence cuz it's all teens & young folk!!!!
    1# *Felon* is the most accurate "Prison" movie of all time (Val Kilmer was Oscar worthy in that film I thought he was my actual celly watchin him in that movie he gave me straight flashbacks like i was in there wit him) The SHU is literally where they take all the real gladiators when they become adults & won't ack right, theres no place more dangerous in any prison in this country!!!! GEN Pop is scary & dangerous in most prisons but you're outside you're cell most of the day walking around & in the day room or rec room or on the yard with everyone that is locked up for everything no matter the crine wether its violent or non violent but SHU "Secure Housing" is literally u locked down 23 hours a day & all y'all are on that unit for either murdering or beating up or maming a CO (prison guard) or for other inmates so every person in there is literally a violent savage thats been cooped up all day & night so its like being in the hole 🕳️ all day except u get out for rec one hour a day & mind u you're only in the yard with the most dangerous & violent prisoners so rec time is nothing but fight mamming & sometimes killing!!!! Thats why u see all the inmates literally running out on the yard to attack someone as soon as the lock pops on the door!!!! Its like the *Dog Pound* movie except wit all adults & convicted murderers , gangs & violent rapests!!!!! It's a masterpiece of realism & the SHU is the last place u wanna be in any prison in the US other than Rikers Island county jail or ADX supermax in Colorado cuz it's like living in a 8x12 casket ⚰️
    All the other prison films are enjoyable but way too damn Hollywood!!! U can't really make a list of top ten prison films unless u actually been locked down before so i don't expect most ppl to agree with me!!!!
    Also the prison scenes in the Jeffy Dahmer show were also on point probably the most accurate wit all the lil details!!!!!
    I ain't seen Shot Caller yet but i heard it was pretty good
    *Bronson* is really good too!!! The movie was a true story & a masterpiece but also surprisingly hilarious too &Tom Hardys best movie & role!!!

    So the key if you are being punished by a corrupt agent is:
    1 Record with spy device
    2 Publish it
    3 If you get something Bad done to you, exaggerate as if it would be way worse with screams. This is good to victimize in Such situations, because they go to jail if such evidence gets public

      It seems to be the way most disciplinary systems. I've never been to prison but I was bullied quite badly in school.
      Pushed around, slapped, name calling and had stuff stolen off me.
      One day I just had enough and I beat the guy really badly (he was in hospital for about a week).
      I was the only one punished, which I understand. But this guy had been making my life miserable for years and he got treated like some innocent victim.
