Originally, Nissa was a proud nature-mage who believed that elves are the pinnacle race of the multiverse, and the Joraga the greatest of them all. Born on Zendikar, she possessed a deep love for her home plane, originally to the exclusion of all others. She was said to have a deep seated hatred of vampires and a love for flowers. Nissa was revised intoa druid whose ties to her home plane goes beyond that of a normal shaman or even a animist. Her soul speaks to Zendikar, and the land is as much a part of her as the blood pumping inside her veins. In this view, she is much more tolerant of other races.
Nissa made her debut in the Xbox 360 game Duels of the Planeswalkers, though Nissa's art, by Jaime Jones, was slightly altered for the purposes of Duels' packaging and marketing, because the Entertainment Software Rating Board rejected the original art for use on packaging. They felt her outfit was a bit too revealing.
That's a great cosplay! You look just like a professor! :D
+glowsticksuit Internet WIN right here...
+Zandar the Legend XD
Best comment
+glowsticksuit *Round of applause*
+MML HELLIANN You like to reply with just "XD" don't you?
“When Nissa Nature, the Tree Lover comes into play, put a heart counter on each forest you control.”
I lost it.
"The Academy gets Freyalise and I get Nissa Revane" I could not stop laughing XD
And Nissa could get some Haldol to finally help with being psychotic! Lordy, she is nuttier than squirrel poop!
A great look into Nissa's character!
I feel like she was a missed opportunity to be a green villain-- after all, she unleashed the Eldrazi! Her actions remind me of Magento, always looking out for their people at the expense of everyone else.
march of the machine
Meanwile in a forest on Lorewyn....
Tree: I wonder where that hippie elf went. For some reason she took all my stash and disappeared away.
Dryad Arbor is so sad
I thinks Nissa has been messing with to much GREEN. If you catch my drift.
Annndddd A++
Hi mana source I love you deck tech videos :)
+TheManaSource I never doubt these vids. I knew it was within you all along prof.
Who is the cosplayer in this?
Can you make one where Ajani is on a tree and doesn’t want to come down
@@shawngreen3476 i think is Ashlen Rose.
Of all the cosplayers Nissa's acting has been the best so far. I also like the theme of this one, it really speaks to how people are afraid of perceived controversial narratives.
I practically know NOTHING about Magic's lore but this was so funny, I liked it! Well done with the presentation while making a point. :}
seibenlore
+BurningLanguages Don't read Nissa's story :D it's bad read gideon's story.Or Urza's story they're intresting.
+Aleksandar Lazarov WHAT?
+SeibenMTG will TCC be a promotional card for 25 cards of Christmas
+BurningLanguages
Basically, they turned her from a flawed bit of dead weight into a bland mary sue.
Wow great acting and costume Ashlen, and what a lovely voice you have
+MaNU_ZID She could probably stand to do a little less leaning forward and clenching her fists, but it was alright. The Professor was much more natural in his acting (and far and away better than in some of the old videos, like when he was looking at the shop owner's MTG collection).
“After I was freed from Phyrexia I lost my planeswalker spark and thought I lost my connection to Zhalfir. After talking to Chandra, I was able to look inside myself and realize that my connection to Zhalfir was inside me all along.”
"It wasn't your best moment, but we all experiment with dark magic at one point or another." Preach.
This was the most brilliant thing I've seen from you. Now slam Jace for doing everything in the multi-verse and basically having everything revolve around him.
+Sykdude it's funny that they're kinda wanting to integrate that as a part of his character, someone who needs to solve everything for everyone to the point of overworking himself, interesting way to "fix" the excess of jace throughout mtg's lore
+Mario Lozano I feel like it only really fixes it if he "breaks" and we don't have Jace for a while and he returns Sarkhan style in some down the road set.
Ashaya!!? Where are you!!? xDD
+Monliego Even the first time she did that, I wanted to bash my head in with an improvised claymore.
+photosinensis sword or explosive?
+Monliego
I'm hoping Sorin will use her as a fuel source for some spell to kill off Ob Nixilis, or to seal the Eldrazi on Innstrad.
+ZoidsNut One of these guys:
borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/SWORDSPLOSION!!!
+ZoidsNut both tied together
Professor, this video was spectacular. It was well-written with some brilliant humor and a lot of fantastic points with facts to back them up. I would LOVE to see more of this style.
oh PLEASE make this a series!!! the professor interviews each major planeswalker... all the interviews go fine except when he fan girls over Liliana
Holy crap this is GOLD. I'd love to see more like this. You're the best.
Well this is just the best. If you ever need someone with a weird half-Irish accent and acting experience, let me know! I could play Karn, or something. Probably.
+Windmill Slam YES!!! Cast Denis as Karn!
+Jack Cramer I'll totally fly out
+Windmill Slam and if you ever need a totally random person with no acting experience but a love for breakfast foods, I'm your man.
+Windmill Slam And if you ever need someone with short hair, glasses, no real microphone, no time, a love of MtG lore, and a strange boil on his armpit, I'm your guy!
The woman who potrays nissa does a great job and looks alot like nissa if this is a series and you have people like this nissa this will be one of the best mtg youtube series ever
So Nazi Elf is Best Elf? brb gonna write up a really weird D&D setting... Oh man Winston Churchill is gonna be the best wizard.
all the yes!
+T3hCr0w my elves are cannibals.
@@Thenarratorofsecrets inspired by divinity? I do that to to an extent, adds flavor, pun accidental, but very welcome.
i love how ashlen rose got into character so well! nice one professor. i can't wait to see you have a one on one with karn :P
"The academy gets Freyalise and I get Nissa Revine." That is probably my favorite line I have ever heard.
But professor, racism is bad.
+Protagonist XD
+J ????????
+Protagonist we cant have a racist protagonist
It could be a slight form of an antihero
+Protagonist REALLY BAD.....
I wish lore episodes made more of an appearance on the channel. I really like videos like this and the Jace vs. Urza videos.
+TheDanKong Didn't mean that to sound negative. I enjoy every video, I guess I'm just a Vorthos Guy!
seibenMTG, does great narration on the lore
That Freyalise line was gold. Great video prof, always love some good lore-based comedy (especially when there's a point to be made)!
This was really funny. You should make this into a full series, interview all the planeswalkers. I'd love to see you interviewing Jace, Lilianna and my personal favourite Elspeth.
yes
+TornadoCreator Good luck dragging her back. You're gonna need 6 black mana and Rescue from the Underworld for that shenaniganzors.
Absolutely the funniest thing I've seen in ages. Love it!
It is the time to interview Nissa again Prof! She is in Simic color and now an oathbraker.
Also golgari
Also a lesbian o wait magic was afraid to make that cannon
They aren't afraid of gay characters, you got Alesha, Niko, hal and Alana. They already re-wrote her character once before, and if you couldn't tell from the video it was to the character's detriment.
I ADORE the light switch in the background with no panel on it. Getting a new look at the office! :D
Thank you so much Professor. I feel like you are the only mtg content creator that calls out Wizard's of the coast's bullshit.
Also your the only one that produces anything original like this. this is why your number one! I would love if you would do more EDH videos and anything lore related.
this might be your best video yet, prof
+Nate Reniger Thanks!
Gerald Snowman that's just a second garruk tho. I like how they mixed her with blue
Wow. Just wow. I thoroughly enjoyed that. I like this new subject to talk about. Bring us some more Professor!
This is like "An old man remembers the 90's" 2.0 I like it!!!
I didn't specifically care much for the Zendikar novel. Not that I hated xenophobic Nissa but most of that book was about running out of water and that gets old after a while. I get it, Zendikar is harsh and traveling there is dangerous. It was much better illustrated in the comic strip where Chandra is looking for a guide.
Not to mention the amount of trouble Sorin could have saved the multiverse if he could have just explained things to Nissa rather than try to look cool by being mysterious!
he didn't want to lose her help basically, after that it went downhill from the from nissa
He didn't have to tell her that he was a Vampire. He could have stuck to "Planeswalkers help Planeswalkers" and tell her the truth about the Eldrazi, Ugin and Nahiri (who let's be honest, probably wasn't even thought of back then) and how trapping them here was judged to be the only way to save the multiverse.
After all let's not forget how Ugin mentioned that they might be part of a fragile "ecosystem" and that killing them could have drastic consequences and how Bolas really wants them free on his mission to restore the full power of the spark.
For all we know, trapping them was the first step towards the mending. What if the Eldrazis were some kind of multiversal scavengers, feeding of old dying planes and recycling that mana in the process? (Just don't think about how that makes every plane some kind of residual Eldrazi poop)
By breaking this cycle, maybe the multiverse was sent on a downward spiral that forced it to change the very nature of mana, the spark and the blind eternities.
But I digress. I just think Sorin should have been more straightforward but that's me nitpicking. What would have made Zendikar a better story is really just better character interaction and less survival 101 issues.
Lol Prof slams Sorin for just that in his edition of Office Hours.
Hahaha, I love it. I can't get enough magic lore! This not only makes me want to learn more but also makes light of the lore. Great job
And next up on Magic: The Gathering Office Hours!
The Professor repentantly hits Jace with a brick, shouting "60 DOLLARS. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!"
This was absolutely hilarious. So well done!
professor, I could hug you for this
Well done Professor, this video was great, keep em coming
"The Academy gets Freyalise and I get Nissa Revane!"
This was a most enjoyable video!
Others have also pointed out how the stories always had: here's the main character, main character gets attacked by Eldrazi, random thing saves them, end story. It wasn't until the battle that it was finally broken up but just one giant fight with Eldrazi. I think that observation and yours combine to show symptoms of the same disease: the weekly lore articles. While I like having access to them any time for free, that does limit character growth. Characters can't change too much because someone else may already be writing the character's next adventure. Novels offered one writer the ability define an arc throughout a book, rather than limiting writers to always have a conflict and no real resolution.
RIP Nissa. Hopefully you got the arc before compleation
I do not know if Nissa was hinting at the Return to Lorwyn block coming soon. All I know is I will RIOT if the first set is not called Nissa's Tree.
Great video Professor and Ashlen was a great guest to have. I will now see the new Nissa acting like that for the rest of the game's life.
One of my favourite videos of yours yet.
4 years later: nissa has an arc!!!!
Great vid - it's really cool to see your content growing and changing over time
This is brilliant. Thank you so much for what you do!
Phenomenal video. Prof. was awesome as always. Ashlen Rose was awesome, as well. Fantastic job by all involved.
This was great! I'd love to see more of these!
Loved this, would watch more like this professor!
please make more of these if you can. this was great!
This was awesome and I hope this becomes a series.
I just love the way he says "Uh Huh, Uh Huh."
Her arc in that chapter (and the others about the spirit deal) is the equivalent of me leaving my keys on the counter, walking outside, and going back in to grab them. Or forgetting they're in my pocket. "They were with me aLL ALONG!"
Oh my Heliod, amazing. More plz!
great, and I'm in agreement. Nissa needs more depth of character. at this point on zendikar I'm rooting for drana to planeswalk over nissa.
+Brian Wise THE PEOPLE DEMANDS A DRANA PLANESWALKER!
+Mario Lozano yes, yes we do!
+Mario Lozano That would be amazing, as long as she isn't anything like Tibalt( that card ruin a fun new planeswalker)
Mtg Deck Techs I wonder if we'll ever see a new tibalt, his concept was kinda interesting and just one bad card shouldn't kill an entire character
+Mario Lozano he kinda died
This was great! Feels very involved and hope to see more
What a fantastic video! Thanks for the laughs Professor! Can inlook forward to more office hours in the future?
Really cool concept, hope to see more in the future!
I wouldn't mind seeing the other 4 planeswalkers from the set be interviewed and analyzed. Really funny stuff, keep it up!
The funny part is I'm indifferent to the actual lore, but I love this video's take on Nissa! Please, please do my favorite planeswalker Kiora soon!
This exceeded my expectations! Dont know much about magic lores but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Too funny!
Revane huh ? Real subtle choice for a last name. Was Nature taken? HM? Nissa Nature? When Nissa Nature, The Tree Lover comes into play: Put a heart counter on each forest you control. - _Professor pulling no punches_
Her voice is adorable and I could totally seeing the voice paired up with the artwork.
Her conflict is her love for Chandra. XD
MORE plz, that was absolutly fabulous!! ;D
0:54 as a non native english speaker, the way she says the word "through " is so god damn soothing and smooth
Ugh I love these videos that add to YOUR lore, Professor. Interviews with students, maybe your Dean (Who would that be?) Why do I hate my college classes but love enrolling in TCC?
Meet Nissa, the newest Disney princess, fresh out of the Political Correctness Cleansing Vat.
"MIld hippie elf". best description ever!
As a writer i think this extra hilarious and your clever skit disguised your ranting. Well done!
I also agree with your point that making everybody a protagonist with nearly zero flaws is a shallow thing for wizards to do. Maybe they feel like no one cares about the story so they just kinda make a lame one and call it a day.
Good work Jes ;)
Didn't realize these videos were that old haha! Great ones though for sure! Love it!
This was awesome, you should definitely do more!
Ohh shit dood that was Ashlen Rose!? She was hilarious! I love this girl's work
This was fab, one of your best written yet :) Though I'm still a Nissa fan at heart ;)
Awesome. Best video you've ever done, I think.
Standing OVation! this was the best performance yet! brilliant!
I recently have been working on building a boros angel deck. I was inspired partly from the commander 2015 release. but what really drove me is two cards I had always wanted to play with as a commander player, both versions of akroma. I had long ago, when I got back into Magic picked up divine vs demons, and was happy to pick up akroma, angel of wrath. but I never got to use her fury. so I went ahead and picked up cards to help build around the deck. I used your advice on the recent from the vault angels, and picked up the singles I wanted rather than ones I wasn't going to use. I did however pick up Serra angel in the from the vault version because I felt that despite it being bling. it was a nice version at the low cost of $2. and most of my from the vault picks were less than $5 a piece.
please, more comedy stuff. I love this and when your father is on. You have an amazing sense for mtg related comedy!
This series looks like it could be hilarious! I really hope there's more coming!
+Jeff Giorgi There are indeed more coming.
Exciting! I can't wait!
Omg...best video so far
OMG...
"Put a heart counter on each forest you control..." about died trying to hold in my laughter, while at work...
LMAO! Excellent work, Professor!
This video is the whole reason I bought a Nissa deck. I find her hilarious
Nice! That was freaking hysterical!
Was just in the middle of reading one of the new Kaladesh stories and I had to come back here because damn. She's still going.
I love this so much
The acting here was pretty awesome.
yea but that was the point. So they did a good job.
She makes a great Nissa, I'd love to see the Professor as Urza!
I love it! The eye rolls where strong.
any way she was such a amazing character with an amazing back round
LOL this was hilarious! I hope you do more with other characters Professor. Something with Liliana or Jace would be amazing!
This video had me rolling, I couldn't agree more. It's just like the revisions to Chandra's story. In the original story she was more responsible for her parents death. But we can't have protagonists with checkered backgrounds now can we?
Am I the only one who really liked Tibalt's story? I know his card sucks and he gets a bad rap because of it. I just really like that kind of character.
Best one so far!
love it worth my patron
thumbs up for Ashlen, she is the best!
Please make another one of these!
"uh-huh.. uh-huh" this made made laugh. Thank you.
Professor, you are Vorthos hero.
