buy a bottle of multivitamins with long dates on it. you can rotate when it gets close to expiring but keeping a bottle of multivitamins would be very helpful.

I would add beans, as well as seeds and nuts. You don't really need cereal. Most aren't healthy for you anyway. If you've got rice, quinoa and oatmeal, they can make great breakfasts in a variety of ways.

Boxed cereal does not store well long term anyway! Even unopened a box of cereal will be stale within a few months! Of course if you are starving, stale cereal will fill your belly, but I suspect the nutrients in cereal will deteriorate quickly.

Rice is an excellent long term storage product, but make sure it is white rice! Brown rice, wild rice, in fact anything except white rice does not store well!

Goes rancid faster than white rice due to more oil on it

The horrendous flood in the south of Brazil shows the need of hoarding food even for donation purposes, as hundreds of thousands of inhabitants lost everything including their plantations and livestock, as well as the food stored or on the shelves in grocery stores and supermarkets..

I guess canned food is best. Canned foods that don't require water to prepare - just heat up. storage should be cool dry place. Learn to make any kind of bread. Tortillas are probably best or a simple biscuit. Canned vegetables contain emergency water which can be used to make a soup or gravy. Canned fruits will brighten your day. Make sure to keep two manual can openers. I know this is no help to flood victims after the fact. They need a shipment from bordering countries. But it does make you realize how quickly we can lose possessions and should prepare to live as simply as possible.

I bought several cases of ramen noodles for my food storage. BE CAREFUL - the noodles go RANCID after a few months to a year. The seasoning packets seem to last forever, but not so with the noodles themselves. They didn't last as long as one might think.

@@melissawingfield8666 they looked the same, but they had a slightly off smell. They cooked up fine but they taste like an old sock. I didn't get sick or anything like that, so at that stage, they could be eaten if you could stand the taste.
I've got a couple pkgs set aside that will be two years old next month and I'll cook one of them up and see if it gets worse. Since no one knows for sure how long things last, trial and error is all we have.

More like you'll need the carbs to keep on enough weight to keep running. In the Great Depression potatoes saved many lives. But hey, stay low carb, you'll look like you came out of a concentration camp and feel just as bad. You'll be fortunate if you get a meal a day.

You don't get overweight with potatoes if you buy them raw and cook them yourself with a little olive oil and salt . What would make you overweight is all the icky things they add in already cooked potatoes . I've eaten potatoes all my life and have never been overweight, but of course I eat a reasonable amount , don't drown them in fat , don't add cream or cheese . And with an air fryer 1 tablespoon olive oil for 2 lbs potatoes cut into cubes ...delicious .

You won’t have enough access to vast volumes of food, so you won’t have to worry about weight gain! In a real emergency your concern is going to be a lack of calories, not weight gain!

There is a self heating pad they use a lot in Japan. All you do is pour water over it and it gets hot enough to boil water and cook noodles. I forgot what they're made out of but it might be a good idea to stock up on a bunch of them.

    • @Edward-tm1dm

Don’t need to heat caned food. Just eat from the can. It’s already cooked. For hot water you can take a couple milk jugs paint them black and set in the sun you’ll be surprised how hot the water can get.

Just in America alone, there are approximately 769,000 beef growers, 24,000 dairies, 67,000 pig farms, 168,000 chicken farms, and 4,500 fish farms. This doesn't include the tens of thousands of vegetable farms and orchards. America produces far more food than it can use and there is no reason whatsoever for food inflation in America or the slightest lack of food. Quit believing the lies, about food shortages are causing higher prices or shortages, because it's not about a lack of food, it's because they are selling too much of it to other countries.
Here is a list of hard to impossible Illnesses to heal from, where people take medicine for the rest of their lives and suffer from amputations and intestine portions being removed and so much more. The cure is a high protein and good fat diet, also known as the Carnivore Diet. My recommendation before visiting any more doctors, is to start eating fatty Fish - Salmon, fatty Beef - 80/20 Hamburger, Chicken, and Pasture Raised Organic Eggs. Use real Butters, Olive Oils, Avocado and Avocado Oils, and season with Salt, but avoid Black Pepper.
Here's the list of diseases that the Carnivore Diet cures.
    1) Hypertension
    2) Atherosclerosis
    3) Type 2 Diabetes
    4) Obesity
    5) Metabolic Syndrome
    6) Inflammatory Bowel Disease
    7) Crohn's Disease
    8) Ulcerative Colitis
    9) Rheumatoid Arthritis
    10) Lupus
    11) Multiple Sclerosis
    12) Migraine Headaches
    13) Depression
    14) Anxiety
    15) Eczema
    16) Acne
    17) Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
    18) Fibromyalgia
    19) Anemia
    20) Chronic Inflammation
Don't take my word for it, try it and see if it works.
Always try to get foods that are raw, wild caught, pasture raised, free ranged, grass fed, high Omega 3. If you have trouble with digestion, start off with ground meats, fish, or chicken. Never use any kind of vegetable oil. No sugars. Using digestive enzymes will definitely help, but a spoonful of apple cider vinegar before each meal helps also. No processed meats.

This isn’t about what people should eat in times of plenty, it is about what we should have in our pantry in case of emergency and lack of access to grocery stores, much less lovely organic meat options! At best people might have access to the occasional venison or rabbit. At worst we will be hoping a rat or snake turns up in a trap!

New Mexico with one point part of Mexico. Our staple is beans and rice. The noble pinto bean. Every part of the United States, has it been that they eat. Here are lentils, or only eaten during lent, and aren’t even on the shelves for you to buy except during lent. I understand what you’re trying to do, but you need to take some cultural, preferences into consideration. For example, when you put down lentils, you could say, or the bean/legumes of your choice.
