Sometimes the Fates are depicted as a young woman, a middle-aged woman, and an old woman. This is to show the daughter, mother, and old crone stages of life.

@@xanderliptak Every once in a while you will see the male version of a Crone in the human depictions of Zeus and Hades or in Hephaestus in his god form. The Crone is often defined as a very old woman, it is only in the current religions that she is seen as a "witchy" figure. Basically, it is any woman after she has reached the stage of her life past menopause that she is indeed a Crone. I would be considered one because I am at that stage of my life myself.

Amara Agunwa because worshipers at the temple were meant to be pure in all ways especially for Athena because she represented wisdom and purity, so when she was r*ped inside of athenas temple Athena took it as an offense and punished Medusa for being a “slut” essentially. However in different versions of the story, Medusa was actually blessed by Athena to have the ability to turn people in to stones. Because then she could defend herself if that were to happen again to her. It depends on the region of Greece the story is being told from.

Such a great presentation, as always - The Fates are an strong underpinning to so much.
A couple of cents tossed in, because that's who I am...
There is another myth concerning the Fates directly: Apollo got them drunk once and persuaded them to spare his friend Admetus from death, which they consented to on the condition that Admetus find someone else to die in his place. Admetus tried to convince his old parents but they refused. His wife Alcestis volunteered. Heracles happened to be in the neighborhood the day Alcestis was to die, and, long story short, he waited outside Alcestis' door and defeated Death.
There are other deities outside of Greece that are equivalent to the Fates, notably the Norns in Norse mythology.
Thanks for distinguishing the Moirai from the Graeae - that was very frustrating for me.
Clotho actually comes first in the line-up: you have to spin the thread into existence before you can measure.
The name of the kingdom is pronounced with a hard C: "KAL-i-don".
I'd love to hear your take on Atalanta, who was a very interesting character.

I know this was a long time ago, but it would be awesome if you covered the story of Orestes. Fun facts about the fates! Good job!
My daughter is named Atropa, hard "o" sound in the middle. Atropos' name was used to name the genus for nightshade (fitting), atropa belladonna. Wife and I liked the sound of the name Atropa, and the research we did on it's origins. I am also pretty sure that, in Latin, Atropa means death (our troposphere being our living area on earth, and a prefixed "a" caused it to mean the reverse).

I heard of a version where each of the fates had a form that matched their position. One had the form of a young girl with the future ahead of her. The second was woman in the prime of her life that lived in the now. And, the third had the appearance of an old crone who had her whole past to look back on.

Everything that's ever happened. if you know everything thats happened in the past, you know where that led to in the present, and have a clear view to infer what will happen in the future.
So knowing everything from the past is definitely the best option in my opinion.
