  • Check Your Student Portal Now for Award Letters.
Please send me copies of the Award Letters for each of the colleges that you were admitted to. Attached is a sample Award Letter from NAU. Other colleges’ Award Letters will look similar.
Some of the FAFSAs have been processed, however, the Department of Education made an announcement on 3/22/2024 stating that not all of the FAFSAs have been processed yet, and the ED hopes to have them all processed in the next several weeks. Once the college receives the processed FAFSA, it may take several days for the college to produce the Award Letter.
Log onto your college’s Student Portal to look for your Award Letter. Sometimes the award is called the Award Offering, Aid Package, Award Letter or similar wording. ASU calls the Award Letter the FAN (Financial Aid Notification). The Award Letter may be in the Financial Aid section or Financial Offer section. Save your Awards as a PDFs then email it to me for review. The Award Letter should list everything the college is offering including scholarships, loans etc.
There are several things that I am looking for that will be in the Award Letter. The first is the COA, Cost of Attendance. The COA breaks down the total cost which include tuition, room/board, meal plan, books, fees, travel and more.
The Award Letter will include what the college is offering you which can include, Scholarships, Grants, Loans, Work-Study and other incentives. If you received a letter from the college that says congratulations you were admitted and the letter lists a scholarship amount but does not include the COA breakdown, this letter is NOT the Award Letter. See the attached sample Award Letter.
Please send me PDF copies of the Award Letters then I will put the numbers into my easy-to-read spreadsheet.
Once we have all the Award Letters, then we can decide if we should appeal for more aid.
