For real. Me was shocked too specially because right before finding and listening this new God Rakim's project I was checking last Gizzle's single that was released recently too. The telepathy is truly exist!
That's what I thought. Too bad he isn't on more east coast tracks. They really mastered his voice out well. Whoever the mastering engineer was - BG should hire him on EVERYTHING!
In 1988, for my 18th birthday, I asked my parents for the "Follow the Leader" album by Eric B & Rakim. Initially they refused to accept such a request, as they felt it was a "too small gift" for such an important date. Also, as we lived in Sweden at the time and didn't have much money, none of them understood how rap could even be called music. I refused to accept ANY other suggestion from them as the central gift for my day and explained I would rather be completely without a gift at all, than to get something I didn't want to receive. After many discussions around the topic they gave in and I got that magical album. Today, when I am soon to turn 54, I still have the very same album on vinyl in perfect condition. With the passage of time my parents eventually understood, to a 100%, the importance of this music to me and the importance of legends like Rakim that with their music touched the hearts of so many people in that magical era. It's amazing Rakim still keeps creating music that gives me goose bumps when I hear his mellow voice and bars. When you know quality, you simply know quality! Keep it up, Rakim! We're still following the Leader! 👍
Love it! I first heard Rakim recording a local rap show to cassette. 1987. Eric B Is President dropped. It sounded light years different than what was out at the time. Solidified my love of the genre, even after nearly 40 years. 🙏
That was a major blessing, glad they gave in and bought you that album! My first time hearing or even seeing The R was “I ain’t no joke”! I was sold on the man whole career🔥🔥💯💯 Also was my first time seeing Flavor Flav with the clock on his neck
Why? So he can make $20. Music doesn't pay anything anymore. This is why no one is dropping anymore and if they drop it's terrible because no one can afford a good team anymore. Everyone has to self-produce everything and master it themselves now. Music is going to suck until the money is fixed. Streaming doesn't pay anything.
@@Officialheatrecords It's true. I worked and lived off music for 15 years and gave up and went into IT because once Napster hit, people didn't see value in music anymore. Living off your creativity isn't as fun as people think it is. One month you are getting huge checks and the next nothing. Trying to make money on music right now is dam near impossible. Big albums are getting 20K streams at best. That's like $20.
That chorus is dope af. BG sounds better than ever. Rakim as always is still surgical with the flow. Dude at the end sounds like he shoulda been on the Firm album with Nas and the crew. And finally, Rakim shows yet again that he’s not only a grandmaster on the mic, but a dope producer as well.
Yea, production isn't bad but not amazing. Honestly, he should focus on rapping. I would hire Cool and Dre to produce the album because they can flip some amazing shit for Rakim. Or I would use Just Blaze. I would stay away from Dj Premier because his sound is too dated and he hasn't kept up. I think a Cool and Dre/Rakim album would be incredible.
I think that this album was more to display Ra production more than him spitting on tracks....I wouldnt have never imagined BG & RA on a track together.... This hook is hard too....I love how Ra was open to all the networking to different artists...........Ra is the 🐐🐐
Ra',This Whole Connection; Beat With Flows Of Differential Of Cadences, Different Area Codes On One Song With Different Eras Of Rappers Together.. Classic 💪🏾🦾💪🏾🦾💯💯
The present moment is universally significant for all pursuits. Rakim, your contributions to hip-hop have been remarkably uplifting. Since the passing of DMX, I have not encountered an artist capable of filling that void. However, your emergence in my life with your recent classic hip-hop offerings has brought me a profound sense of joy and fulfillment.❤❤
After 35 years in the game, Rakim still nice as fuck. It's seem like he done got in tune with what the younger generation likes to hear. His Style is timeless, it's The Return of Bars and Real Rap. 😁😁
U do know turk was the odd man/outcast of cssh money. Birdman did him dirty and that solo album was a birdman project put together while turk was in jail@@bgbgbgbg7353
Rakim & BG damn

This was the perfect ingredients for some NYC gumbo 318 louisiana in the building!!!! Put on repeat and ride!!!!
The young demons are scared of the guys. They know they can't compete wit real bars
