    Well Scott. That has to be one of the best show walk around I’ve ever seen. None of the factory bulls-t spiel. I’ve been to a lot of truck shows in my time (starting with Earls Court in the 60’s) but I must say for a non-professional presenter, that was really good.

    Great video once again Scott. Must agree with the color choice for your own company truck. You should try to get to one of the US truck shows. you need a week to get around them. Seeing all the new technology one can only wonder what things will be like when your my age (82) Keep on trucking brother.

    That driver monitoring system is on national express coaches. The problem is if your watching your speed because slowing down then it goes off, if you yarn it goes off, if you look in your nearside mirror for longer than 3 sec whilst turning it goes off. It then sends an alert to national express control to say you've set it off.

    • @ScottAndrews

      I bet that drives them crazy

    • @stevewilkins816

      I drive them and I've learned to live with it. I have my phone in a holder next to the unit with my speed up so I don't get looking at the dash and set it off. As far as the unit is concerned I'm looking at it.

    great video Scott, wonder what the repair would be like, and how often you would have to repair the lines etc. on the truck @20:15. especially with close to jack-knifing the trailer like a lot of companies expect you to do driving in their yards. looks like the trailer connections won't go passed a 45 degree angle, good for the motorway, but not ideal for towns and yards. as for the tail-lift @24:30 don't like how quick it folds up, especially if someone was walking in the blind spot, could see quite a few false claims about being hit by a tail lift.

    • @michaelthomas3646
      @michaelthomas3646 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      as for the pantograph power lines that is an extremely old concept, it has been on the cards for 20-30 years, and still extremely limited availability of it. and the concept was to have it on the motorways, as that is about the only time a truck will move straight, imagine having to remove the pantograph and having to reset it as well when turning left or right in a town. then be a nightmare to drive a truck.

    Great video Scott, having it all explained in a way that a driver can understand is really helpful. Did a class 1 driving assessment this afternoon in wag and drag with a 4 over 4 MAN , I have the option to do class one in that or a Mercedes unit with artic box trailer 🤔 not sure what to go for yet as the hookloaders that can pull the trailers at Perry's recycling are automatic did the reverse park with just one shunt which I was rather pleased with 😊 have a good week

    • @ScottAndrews
      @ScottAndrews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks 😁 Never driven wag and drag. I think i'd choose the artic personally. Auto or manual doesn't really matter these days as everything new is Auto. You don't get the option of manual anymore. With Artics anyway. Thanks again for coming down and saying hello at Shepton 👍😁

    • @elizabethmaybrown6715
      @elizabethmaybrown6715 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Got to agree about the MAN mirror cam with the wide angle built into the main lense! Excellent video without the "sponsor" spiel throughout . I drive for the NHS on agency and we've got two 14T rigid Electric vehicles being used daily. Quiet on the road with instant torque which is great for town work . Any distance runs and once they return have to be plugged in. I can see the attraction at present for day work ( and for being quiet when you deliver to a hospital !! ) but still limited .

But i definitely agree with you about the very nice metallic blue and silver mercedes truck even I'm in love with that mercedes truck, and the Scania 770 xt very nice truck and also MAN trucks very nice aswell 👍👍👍. Not sure about the Chinese trucks at the moment but they look ok though if they arrive in the UK England. But there was alot of the electric components for any type of trucks though Scotty matey 👍👍 and like you said Scott the time will come to go fully electric from scooters right through to trucks one day soon but you still can't beat the diesel engines specially the V8'S. But Scott matey I'm glad you enjoyed your self over in Hanover Germany and making your TH-cam video for all of us who have subscribed to your TH-cam channel and watching your TH-cam videos driving your lovely green Scania V8 truck at work and also MAN and being over in Hanover Germany great work on that over in Hanover Germany great TH-cam video and i really enjoyed watching it keep up the great work Scott matey 👍👍 and i hope to hear from you soon Scott matey 👍👍 thanks from mark from the Wirral Merseyside 👍👍👍

    Electric distribution trucks will be the future for metropolitan distribution work. So for example rigids from outer London RDCs and for trailer swaps from ICE trucks just outside of the M25 once they are banned from London and other big cities across Europe.
    I think outer London RDCs running electric fleets will do very well out of it.

      @@ScottAndrews There is that, yes, but consider this: you have no engine hump in the middle, no need for a gearbox (I'm looking at you, Scania), no need for a ladder chassis (just make the battery case a structural element); consequences are at least twofold:
      * you can drop all the mechanism used to lift/lower cabs and simplify the design (and cost!) a lot;
      * you can rake the windscreen and make the unit that much more aerodynamic; plus you can configure the driver seat to be in the middle and lower, again a reduction in cost.
      That's why cabover designs like that for electric trucks make no sense to me.

    It doesn't seem that trucks basic design hasn't changed over the years. Greater visibility of cyclist & cars outside of the truck, namely the blind spots hasn't been improved.

    Electric all very well under perfect conditions , but imagine being stuck in a long tailback at say Calais and your needing light and heat for long hours , you get the picture lines of frozen drivers and lots of flat batteried trucks that can’t be moved . Stick with the old DIESLE !

    MAN trucks are the worst. We got brand new 470 artics.
    They drop speed uphill with empty trailers😳😳.
    Avoid if you can.

    Electric trucks will never take off for long haul or heavy haulage,
    They will come up with some sort of bio fuel

    Imagine Tramping, running a microwave & night heater & wondering if the truck will start in the morning WITH an electric truck.
    Emissions isn’t a problem our currency & global economic model is. Get the old on busses & trains will cut emissions right down & stopping pensioners getting increases on yearly pensions
    To many people getting money they otherwise wouldn’t have on a Gold Standard.

    It’s all good them promoting electric trucks but if there is no where to charge them out on the road at services then not shore any one will be interested

      Is going to be up to companies using the trucks to mostly have their own charging facilities in house. Different drive trains have different purposes, for example someone who goes out at 6am Monday and comes home 6pm Friday wouldn’t necessarily suit EV but your nearby bakery or the local council collecting door to door bins and leaving the wagon dormant overnight could do well on battery power. Cost vs benefit will always be a factor though for local authorities and with EV trucks costing 3x their diesel brethren they’re in no rush to change over. They’ll always write the rules regarding clean air zones to suit themselves ie EURO 6 compliant.

      @@regularguy3665 yes that is another good point the price of EVs is still so expensive compared to diesel engined
