This program was made from an original 35mm nitrate stock and photographed by (what was then) The CT Film Mfg. Co. out of New Haven. The film was silent, as all films were at this time. The ambient sound and music you hear (use headphones...it's in stereo!) was added on an Avid Media Composer after the original film was transferred to Betacam-SP videotape. You're looking at one of the first big film transfer projects commissioned by the Naugatuck Historical Society, done in 1996. The producer/editor is Bruce Manke, originally of Waterbury, CT. Interesting note: You can see the owner of the 1919 film company IN the program! He appears in 2 spots. He's the short gentleman wearing the white skipper hat in the shot in front of the Rialto Theater, then again for just a couple of seconds in the very next shot. I do not know the man's name. This is something Alfred Hitchcock was famous for, and many contemporary film makers have also placed themselves in their own movies. This guy was WAY ahead of his time! It was one of the pleasures of my life to produce this program for the City of Naugatuck. Thanks!

Bruce Manke. Fantastic job. Music and background noise. All from period. Delightful.

What priceless footage !!! My grandfather (I am 62 years old this year ) marched in that parade as he was a resident and came home from the war after serving in the US Navy. I have a gold medal that was given to him inscribed from the town of Naugatuck.. still a treasured relic. I absolutely love the video post. Please make more.

There is Not one human being still alive from this video. Truly sad. My neighbor on fairview avenue Bill chittenden served in Wwi and was in parade. He told me about his experiences in mid 1970s
