Oh, this was such an enjoyable video! I was just reading this poem for pleasure, and wanted some insight to help me understand it more. I especially love your voice as you read aloud the poem, and then break it down in bite sized morsels. Excellent, now I will explore your other videos :)

What I like about this poem is that Wordsworth is conveying how people from old religion would have imagined natural bodies like seas and the moon to have a form or characteristics of a human being (they tried to treat such with care like another human and befriend them). In this poem, Wordsworth is also conveying to criticise the overall nature of religion it had become in those times where we kind of forgot how beautiful these seas, trees and winds are and how crucial they are for us.

What I love about this poem is that its core message is arguably even more relevant today than it was in Wordsworth's time.

This was my favorite poem from my Senior year of HS. It came close to capturing my feelings at the time. I have always loved communing with nature (as my screen name implies), and that hasn't changed in the 50 yrs since I first read this. Thanks for you post with its clear explanation.

Thanks for the short presentation, despite my age I am only now returning to Poetry and living in the NW of England visit the Lake District often. My favourite place is actually Grasmere! I'm starting to realise there is a LOT more to Wordsworth than I previously understood so again, thank you for this very interesting explanation of this poem.

Thank you. I think it's interesting that Wordsworth was able to use the conventional structure of a sonnet to express what were then, very radical new ideas. Another reason it may be hard to understand, is perhaps because we are even more alienated from our natural intuitions and spirituality, than even in Wordsworth's day.

I love your videos. You have a very gentle way about yourself, you speak so sweetly, and I know you are very patient, I can tell. :) You remind me of a wonderful teacher I had, she was dear to me and so are you. Thank you very much for your videos; you don't make them anymore, do you? I would love it if you would make videos on Shakespeare's sonnets and a few of Blake's set of corresponding poems in The Songs of Innocence and of Experience. Again, thank you very much. :)
