In Europe its a common sight to see drivers at a truck stop or rest area, drop the Scania's front step down and use it as an outside bench seat and have coffee and a chat with a couple of other drivers so that they are taking their rest outside of the cab. Its a very useful feature that most of the cabovers have. 👍

Yeah, the new Volvo even has two cupholders on the step. Well, it's just a round indent in the plastic with a coffee cup icon, but still, finally a manufacturer has realized this habit and done something to prevent knocking the cup off accidentally :) I love these small details...

Considering Scania's - and your own - intentions for this vehicle Bruce, it's well past time that the factory marketing people produced a leaflet - A5 - with all the relevant info about it down to technical specs, servicing time and costs, etc. Presently you're talking to lots of people, and they're leaving empty handed from the exchange, not even your contact details. Time to change that, and Scania can produce something local printers can deal with for you. Remember, specs should be in imperial, not metric .....! Similarly, a large display card that can stand next to the vehicle at shows would give people something to read. If you only have the vehicle until October, can Scania use their resources to arrange test and examination days for fleet buyers and managers around the country, and also to do the same with truck driver magazines ? Your remaining time with the vehicle will soon slip away, please don't be left wishing you'd done more ..... Best regards Bruce, and good luck

That would only make sense if Scania plan to actually sell their vehicles in the US in the foreseable future.
But they are not given the current import restrictions. Making a flyer and producing other marketing material likely would give the wrong impression so Scania has wisely choosen not to provide those.
The whole point of this vehicle is showing US truckers what is available outside of the USA to slowly convince them that US vehicles are not necessarily 'the best in the world' as they have been told their entire life by greedy domestic truck manufacturers, eager to maintain the current status quo with regard to those import restrictions.

Here in Finland, we have semi on that scania, then dolly and another semi on that 34,5 meters and 76 tons. So when you do have to back it to some grocery stores loading bay, you need some manoeuvrability. Especially at winter. There is no way we could do that with some long nose peterbilt. There is no room for that. And no traction. Even with 2 drive axles, in winter conditions, its better to lift that rear axle up. More pressure on those two wheels

Also on the Scania. you can use the Gear selection stick to chose the gear manually. For example: when you accelerate empty, you can chose to start in 4th gear, then shift the gear up to 7th for speed. Also they have a kick down button under the accelerator pedal, which holds it in gear..

15:47 Hello Bruce, what you need to do is horsepower match a long nose anything , with your Scania pulling the same gvm, with a load same gvm , and a return empty and do the figures, obviously gearbox ratios need to be close and diff ratios, interesting cab over versus long now!!! And obviously the long snout needs to be new, make It happen.

Where I work, some of our new trucks has adaptive cruise control, so if you get to a red light and there is a car in front of you, you don't have to touch either the brakes or the gas pedal, the truck will slow down to a full stop and then start driving again when the car in front of you is out of the way 🙂

One thing that might be interesting to mention when showing people around the cabin Bruce is the mirror that points straight down in front of the truck grill. If I remember correctly it had to be removed due to the regulations for the US but perhaps a camera might be possible instead that could wire into the standard dash or an addition display somewhere else that only activates under a certain speed. Just an idea. That mirror is extremely useful for urban driving or tight spaces to see how close you are, if there's someone walking in front of you, any other thing that might be hard to spot low down otherwise
Also: I have a question regarding your fuel economy. Is the truck using American gallons or imperial gallons for the MPG figure the truck told you on those trips you measured?

What's the recommended OCI on this bad boy, 40,000km!? Fresh engine, first oil...yeah they will stay pretty clean. Second oil fill will go black just from old oil dilution. I am amazed you are running a cab over in the states! Go well Bruce! I'd still do a first oil change at half the first nominated distance to just be sure...it's only oil and a few filters! Get rid of all the running in metal. Be safe. What's the saying? Rubber side down?

Download the XCOM software, with this program you can modify lights and add (TPMS) and many other things to the Scania, change the fifth wheel for a higher one so that you do not hit the rear fenders with the semi-trailer again

  • @1chish

When you get it over a pit or in the air go round every nut and bolt with a tapping hammer and listen for a different sound on each one. in the UK we do 'Inspection' every 6 weeks regardless of miles run and that is basically doing what you are doing there especially with regard to road worthiness although the Scania first service has a series of re-torqueing to do as you mentioned.
When you get to do the 'L Service' which is done at that higher mileage Scania allow 8 hours becasue EVERYTHING is changed / adjusted / torqued / inspected!
Scania are now doing the same as MAN have done for many years which is writing a file image of the truck to a main server in Sweden for recording and updating. The MAN system sends a 'Conversion File' from the truck to the Gateway in Munich which records it and adds any updates that are necessary and then that file is sent back and downloaded on to the truck itself. Laptops are as essential as a set of spanners (wrenches).

I like the way you make America aware of the great brands we have here. Do you know brands as DAF, Iveco, Mercedes and for the last years Ford (I forgot Volvo) who are also major players on the European market? I understand why you are Branding Scania as it is the Rolls Royce in Europe without the Rolls price! You Americans make America Great again but use Scania to make you bigger as you van imagine!

It's ONLY changing the modes of how the transmission is gearing up and down.
So Please stop telling ppl that you're turning up or down the engine power.

Pulling engine out is pointless stunt from owner perspective... We have one Scania R420 it's 20 years old it's driving 3rd million km and engine was never out. Few clutches, one gearbox repar. We did remove engine heads twice I think for injectors and head gasket (running out of coolant ain't fun😂)... Scania are bulletproof trucks
