You should only remove 1mm per cut. You should only cut 1/3 of the circumference of the tree, not 1/2. Do the math. If you cut 1000mm from the ground, and cut 2mm each time, you will be able to tap one side of the tree 500 times then you will be on the ground. 365 days x 5 years is 1825 days. divided by 2 is 912. So if you tap 2mm every other day, you'll hit the ground after 456 tapping days. So if you tap every other day, you'll hit the ground after 3 years, not 5 years. I went to school in Thailand for rubber tree tapping. It was sponsored by the King of Thailand. It was taught by university professors who specialized in latex farming. You need to tap about 50,000 trees to become an expert in tapping. Too deep and you can introduce diseases and kill the tree. Too shallow and you don't get much latex. There is a lot of bad information on this subject.
